A Graveyard Smash

After the unfortunate death of his parents, Harry finds himself struggling to move on. This is aggravated when his father's ghost begins haunting him.

This is somewhat a satire of English liberal millennial culture, partly an attempt at an introspective look at dealing with loss and grief. If either of these things sound of interest to you I advise looking away now before they're ruined for you.

For Endmaster's prompt contest. Prompt 17 - A story revolving around a graveyard tryst.

Castle Conundrum

The world has been ruled with an iron grip by the evil Lord Enigma for centuries. Hidden within the impenetrable fortress of Castle Conundrum, he is all but undefeatable.

But you are an adventurer, and it is your job to defeat evil overlords, no matter what the odds.

Can you puzzle your way through Castle Conundrum and defeat the evil Lord Enigma?

An entry for the Riddles & Puzzles competition 2016.

As the title might suggest, this is me mucking about with variables and code and the like.

An entry for Corgi's Lords of the Land II contest.

I can only appologise in advance to the judges. This still has a lot of work left to do on it. Its essentially just the outline of the first half on one particular pathway.

I'm currently on about 1.5k words of entirely unnecessary backstory, and about five words of actual story. Looks like I have a busy two days ahead of me.

Fuck it, I can probably whack out something semi-decent in two weeks. Gimme number 32.

Pray for us here in the UK. We have to deal with ridiculous shit like this everywhere we look.

I've started putting together some notes for a new idea I have to put on here. Hopefully writing something outside of a competition means I'll actually finish it to a standard I'm happy with rather than the rushed mess my bad time management skills usually produce.

Tale of an American Tourist on 7/16/2022 8:23:45 AM
Randomly decided to write up a brief account of something I witnessed the other day. This felt like a suitable place to share it. The American tourist had been dreaming for weeks of his visit to London. He had imagined every inch of it to be as beautiful as the pictures he had seen of Buckingham Palace, Westminster, and Kensington gardens. He had imagined all the people to be elegant and refined Hugh Grant types, well spoken with immaculately developed vocabularies. The whole family is going. Him, his wife and their two children. The in-laws are looking after the dog for the week that they are away. It was kind of them to offer. He'd been scrimping and saving for months to be able to afford this trip. They know just how much he's been looking forward to it. Upon arriving their first destination is St Paul's. The cathedral is everything they could have hoped for and more. It's gorgeous white dome, a perfect symbol of the finery of British history and culture, stretches above, framed beautifully by a few wispy clouds in the brilliant blue sky. Lining his children and wife up in front of him, he steps back to take a picture of this awe inspiring site. This is a beautiful image he wants to hold onto for the rest of his life. But, oh so suddenly, a terrible event happens that changes everything. A cascade of disillusionment comes crashing down around him. As he steps back, a large bald man in a vest walks up to him and yells. "Get out of the way you fucking yankee twat."

Congratulations mystic on your win! And well done to everyone who submitted something (even those who don't seem to understand the purpose of including choices on a website called chooseyourstory). An impressive showing all round!

For what its worth I agree with you. Your title ranking system is spot on. (Flattery is a valid form of point scoring for contests, right?)

I don't have the self discipline to do that. I'll be writing a particular storyline and then suddenly think "oh this would be an interesting/funny idea, I'll add that in as a new path" and then find myself following that random tangent for a while. Its a consistent issue I seem to have with writing interactive fiction: the freedom to create a massive sprawling mess of a story is too tempting. It's how I've ended up in the shame pit before. I had to be strict with myself for this one, I ended up rushing out my entry even without the sprawling tangents.

If this does end up becoming a competition, I'd personally choose one of the gospels that wasn't chosen to be included in the bible. They have some really batshit stuff in them, like Jesus slaying a dragon, or murdering a child for accidentally bumping into him and then blinding the village elders when they complain about it.

A Graveyard Smash

Some might say that the "different" main endings are a contrived mess that I rushed out after realising I haven't got any free time this weekend. This is nothing but slander.
