Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

I just finally got around to watching Attack on Titan. There was an anime episode marathon on TV so I figured I'd watch as I was writing the next few pages of Devil's Chess. It took me less than two episodes to guess that every single Titan was once a human being. All of them. Not just the kid who burst out of the titan's stomach, but all titans were once humans who had the same power to shape-shift. Why they haven't changed back, I don't know. Maybe some of them have. I'm guessing that they either lost their power to become human, lost their desire to be human, or have just straight up forgotten all about being human / titan and shifting back.

So, after figuring this, my curiosity got piqued and I went to check if I was right--since it'll probably be a really long time before I can sit down to another marathon. xD I'm caught between satisfaction in knowing I figured it out so fast and disappointment. I like surprises, I like a good, shocking plot twist--provided it makes sense, at least. If it's just hitting you in the face from nowhere, without logical tie-in to the previous events, it might as well be a big-lipped alligator moment imo.

Random post I guess. Anyone wanna talk about the show? Alternatively, what plot twists did -you- totally see coming in shows / movies / games? Do you have a favorite? What was it? Is it satisfying for you when you figure out where things are going or is it just a bummer? (Please black / white spoilers out for the sake of others, thank you.)

How do I white/black it out?

In Fringe I anticipated... you know.

By changing the color of the text and the highlight of the text.

I hate when "plot twists" are ridiculously obvious, but the show insists on pretending the viewers don't know what's going to happen next.

Also when nonsensical things happen just so the author can be like "surprised you!"  What's that quote?  Something like "If you called to order a pizza, and the delivery guy brought you a newspaper.  Sure, you'd be totally surprised.  But you wouldn't be very satisfied, and you probably wouldn't order pizza from that place again."

Very well said, I concur completely.

I couldn't get into the show. Wasn't impressed by the first episode and still don't get what the hullabaloo is all about. I dunno.

SNK?  Yeah, I read the first couple volumes of the manga, and I agree.  Not sure why everyone online was raving about it.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

Because in the world of anime and manga, rarely people are killed off so frequently like in SNK.

That, and because there's a really catchy theme song, and because people fly around in their cool gear, etc.

Erm, I was talking about AOT. What's SNK?

Shingeki no Kyojin.  AKA AOT.

Honestly, Tans, I've been avoiding it for a while because I didn't think I'd like it either. Now I kind of want to finish watching it.

Also Weren't they FORCED to turn into Titans by the Ape Titan?  Or did the manga not reveal that to you?  Well, somebody either working with the government or the Titans (or both) is the one kinda responsible.

I wasn't reading it, Swift, I was watching it. And like I said, I didn't see it, I actually just figured it out on my own after watching an episode and a half. Mind you, it was the episode where Eren turned into a titan for the second time, so I didn't start at the beginning, but still. Basically:

Me: "Ohh. Dude ... wait a second. *blurts out plot twist in front of fiance*"
My love: "Huh? Oh. *shrugs* Maybe. I don't know."
Me: "No, no, I'm not asking, I'm saying I really think that's what's going on. Dammit, now I've got to go look this up. >_>'"

However, I assumed that that could've been how it started based on what happened to Eren.

Eren got something from his faja, which then allowed him to transform when he sheds blood.  I'm assuming another chemical does the same thing, but burns the people into Titan napes.

So far according to the manga:

Titans can be turned by the ape, but it's unknown if it's the only way. It's rather unlikely that that is the only way though, given that's not how eren was turned.

There's a separate society of human titans that want eren, presumably because of his new ability that was just revealed.

Human titans and mindless titans are different, but mindless titans appear to be the the first step to becoming human titans. The traitor titans had a few conversations talking about this.

Perhaps SNK's plot twist isn't really what it's hyped up to be but I really find the show irresistible. There's just something oddly seductive about it that I can't put my finger on.

Ah. ... You forgot "chubby." (At least, a majority of them seem to be.)

I don't think he enjoys neutered monsters, any more than you enjoy cats procreating in the woods.

(Yes, I spend all my time reading dead threads. Deal with it."

Malk, this isn't a dead thread, I made it today. >_> Albeit, very early today, but I did.

Also, DD did say "seductive" xD

I was mentioning something truly interesting, written by EndMaster, that I found in Writing Workshop.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

... Interesting and ... totally irrelevant. Okee.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

It was Warrior Cats. I found it ironic. The little voice in my ear told me to mention it.

*shrug*

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

Oh the Warriorcats parody. I don't even remember writing that they were in the woods.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

Yes, the one in which you described them procreating. Way to destroy something innocent, EndMaster.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

They weren't procreating, they were just having rough sex. Get it right.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

I'm sorry for not going through your... (what do we call it? Kitty Shades of Grey?) in more detail.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

"Destroy" warrior cats fan works?

... ... That's like, "destroying" a 'perfectly good' car wreck. The kitty porn is already out there, made by the fans, we just laugh at it.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

Fair enough. But I have yet to read a WC fan work that is as... anatomical as that.

And I suppose it is more destroying a childhood memory, which I can't  dissasosciate with two cats having sex in a training pit.

Well written, tho.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

Yes, totally, watching middle aged mothers getting devoured by large unclothed giants is totally what hooked me onto the show.

Or maybe it's just Jean. Same thing, really.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

It's one of those anime that even people that don't normally like anime seem to like, and that's why it's probably getting a lot of hype.

Though I didn't really hear about the show until Drako made a thread about it a few months ago and I figured given his own dislike of anime if he actually liked this one, then maybe I'd find something to like about it.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

Mmhm. There aren't many of those shows that can pull in people who say they despise the medium, but it's always nice to remember--as an anime fan myself, who has been laughed at on various occasions--that anime really is for everyone, it's only a matter of finding the right one. I don't love the show or anything like that, but I want to see how it ends.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

Although I'm not like some anime fans who re-watch entire seasons in a day, I did finish SNK/AOT in a day. Maybe two. It's probably one of the major reasons why I've started watching anime again. I don't quite know why I loved it so much, though I'm in high anticipation for the next season.

As far as plot twists go, I remember seeing through a few of them. I didn't mind though. I mean, sure, I love (and equally hate) plot twists, but it still makes the anime way more thrilling.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

Gone Girl was another one for me.  (Super popular book, about to be a movie.)

I read the jacket blurb and said "I bet *this* is how it ends."  And I was right.

Really, most teen fantasy/romance/dystopia books you can guess the ending from the jacket.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

No shit sherlock. That is the most obvious twist. The twist about who the other shifting titans were is much more intersting. Also there is the major war going on and the question about what happened to his father. Why is Levi's last name Ackerman and the most instersting twist at the end of the series where you find out the walls are built over titans much like the 50ft.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

:P Was there any need to be a dick about it...? I figured it out after less than two episodes, still worth some note for someone who knew literally nothing about the series beforehand other than "there are these creatures called titans, they eat humans" and "this show is dark, gory, and gives off a vibe of hopelessness", but I wasn't trying to impress anyone. Are you? :P

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

No just pointing out that after eren turns into a titan everyone expects that.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

I watched one episode and figured it out all by myself!

:P

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

Good for you! xD ...

... But one of the main points I was getting at with my OP is that I find easy to figure out plot twists disappointing, even if they may make you feel smart at first, so ... that's really just reinforcing my point. xD

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

I dunno if that reinforces the point as much as it pointed out the Cool spoiled it for anybody considering to watch haha.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

Really don't care about the mystery or twists, I just watch it to see titans eat people and for the theme of humanity being on the brink of extinction.

If anything, I'd actually be fine with NO explanation or twists or anything like that and it's just giant monstrosities eating humans for no logical reason at all and the series was just taking place during the last days of humanity's struggle for survival.

... Well, actually, you'd be wrong. :P Maybe a majority expects it, but not everyone I've talked to.

Attack on Titan / on the subject of plot twists.

Huh. Me and my friends suspected in ep 1. Eren confrimed it. Any way the bigger mystery is what is in that basement. I have a few ideas on that as well but I don't know for certian yet.

It's kind of interesting that auto isn't 100% black... it certainly looks black, until you put it on a true black background... o_O

I've always found that kind of odd, yeah. Apparently auto is actually just a really dark gray.
