So i'm trying to make my game, and i'm having difficulty with adding pictures. Whenever I attempt to upload them to "My stuff" it just tells me that "sorry that can't be uploaded" or that there was an issue or something along those lines. Is this a problem with the site right now?

Also when I try to do this through the "source" option and manually put the picure on my page via IMG coding, it works. But when I go back to edit that page after the "source" coding dissapears. Am I doing something wrong?

Not being able to upload images is a recent bug.  Until it's fixed, embedding images is the only option.

The disappearing picture has been happening for quite a while now and the only workaround I know of is to add the picture just before saving the page and try not to edit again or you'll have to re-add your image.

And welcome.  :)

Welcome to CYS~

The answer to most glitches & technical questions is: AlexP isn't here to fix that.

...sorry to bring up the elephant in the room, but it's true.

Sethaniel, BerkaZerka, & JJJ-thebanisher are the three active mods... and kudos to them for working under these conditions. Frankly, though, I'm something of a fifth columnist for Twine and/or Choice of Games. All of them have their advantages & disadvantages, but at least those other two are seeing active development... and they let you back up your work anywhere you want.

So.. CYS is quirkier than Twine or CoG..? What's the problem with that? You can work around these glitches and appreciate CYS for the community and vivid characters in it, or you can, as Morgan suggested, move to either of these two. There are plenty of other sites with a similar system, but it's not like none of them will have glitches at all.

If I am correct, it's not at all an elephant in the room. That would mean that nobody dares to speak about it- which is not true. None of the mods have ever avoided the answer that alexp is not here. In fact, most of the time they respond with the same answer as you did, so I don't see how this is a subject we are all trying to avoid and which you, now, are bringing up.
Of course, I might also be wrong about the definition of this saying.

It seems to go unmentioned in many cases. The mods seem as likely to find a work-around as to @ their absentee programmer... for obvious reasons. But if it is NOT an elephant, perhaps I should start warning every newcomer. It's certainly something I would have liked to know, as a n00b.

Yeah; I wouldn't say it's taboo or anything, even if it sometimes goes unmentioned. I don't think anyone would have any qualms about your giving newcomers some kind of heads up like that, because it really is something people should know.

I think I missed your point, both of you. Really don't understand what you're both saying.

I really should know better than to post without having had any sleep. Sorry.

I think we've by now established the whole scarcity of alexp is not an "elephant in the room", yeah? But what do you hate about Morgan's promotion of other sites so much? In the end, it's just bringing up alternatives, and people are going to weigh their options and make their own decisions regardless.

Is this irrelevant now? All I was saying was that I don't see why anyone would take issue with mentioning to newbies that it's almost certain bugs aren't going to be swiftly quashed.

I edited that into something shorter and less passive aggressive.

Noob with a couple questions

I noticed. Too late to remove it now.

Noob with a couple questions

That was really not my point, though. There's nothing wrong with notifying noobs that their hopes of getting certain bugs removed might not be feasible. I'm sorry Morgan, I didn't mean to criticize you or anything, if that's what it looked like. God, I messed this up.

Or all the features they want added because their story absolutely needs it.

Exactly. No clicker is complete without a consistent, very annoying background tune which loops automatically..

Precisely why not everybody should learn HTML.

I really don't care if this is removed.

3173v3, it's really fine. My initial comment was passive-aggressive, too. Sometimes that's a tactic I'm willing to use. I hope the mods don't hold that against me, but I think they know by now that my frustration is not directed at them. Or even at AlexP, really. I'm sure he's a busy guy.

I just... worry, sometimes, that someday this place is going to go dark. Lights off, nobody home, and no way to salvage the amazing work that people have done here.

This place is dangerously server-side.

I would assume (perhaps naively) that anyone who puts a huge amount of work into a writing project is also going to care enough about preserving that work to have a backup or three.

Hard to do in a tidy way with a CYOA, but there are options, and the raw text can at least be saved even if there's no easy way to organize it.

No, yeah; I'd never recommend just putting a story together on this site, or in any other engine for that matter, without first having written it up elsewhere in Drive, Word, etc. Facilitates the process, IMO, anyway.

Speak for yourself.  I'll always have Kongregate, & the crappy flash game of snow someone made without my permission.

Noob with a couple questions

Wait, I thought you got that taken down.

Noob with a couple questions

??? I remember being frustrated with Kong for making it super difficult to report it.

I also remember arguing with ppl here who thought as long as someone gives you credit, they can do whatever they want with your work.

Noob with a couple questions

My sympathies for your work getting plagiarized. Sucks. That said, I'd be highly amused if someone tried to make a flash out of either of my games. It would be logical for me to get upset, but I guess--with the sheer amount of work required--I'd almost be impressed.

I remember stumbling on someone saying they were making a game out of Necromancer in some GameFAQs forum, but nothing ever came of it. Even when I found the post it was pretty old.

I remember someone else wanting to make a game out of Eternal, but even I wasn’t finished with it yet at that point and told them as much so again nothing came of it.

That would in fact be impressive so I understand why anyone would bail out.. At least you'd have a backup, even if it's crappy. It's easier to make a bad copy than a horrible original.

Noob with a couple questions

I back up all my writing anyway. I print out hard copies as well.

That'll be some ink, then. I'd pull out all my hair if I'd written something like that and it'd be lost.
