Or stories without them? Why? If you're a writer, what do you usually do? Thanks for the input, guys! :D

All three of my published works have them. Depends on how they're used.

Thanks- I checked them out. You certainly put the images to amazing/creative use! :D

The way apple girl used them in her story made me have a favor bias for stories with self drawn pictures no matter the effort.

Apple girl didn't draw those pics.

Did she get someone to do it for her?

Pictures can be nice if they fit well with the material, but as a reader, I'm far more concerned with the actual story.

Very good point :)

I think everyone has different opinions. When the pictures are interesting and add something to the story they make a nice change from stories without them but even if the pictures are fantastic the quality of the writing is more important. I like cat stories with pictures though because I have something to look at to try and take my mind off the appalling writing.

Pictures are nice - if they are sized correctly, decent or interesting pictures to begin with, and not over-used.

The main focus is the writing, but I have nothing against relevant pictures that fit well.

I like pictures if the pictures have a point. If they get rid of a load of description that would interrupt the tone of the work, they're fine. If they project an image that's difficult to describe, they're fine. If they illustrate a joke that would sound really off in text form then they're fine. Pictures willy nilly, or just pictures that attempt to "set the mood" are often annoying to me.

I really like picture in stories and think they can be really helpful, as long as they're used sparingly. I don't use them in my own stories, because I'm lazy I'm never able to find pictures that match up with the image of my head.

I'm fine with either. Though pictures does make the story game more interesting if you know how to implement them.

I enjoy a story with pictures in it, but no amount of pictures can compensate for terrible writing. I absolutely hate when a story uses too many pictures; it becomes very overwhelming at that point and it makes it difficult for me to focus on the story itself. All things in moderation. As others have pointed out, a good story doesn't need pictures.

EDIT: I should also add that some pictures look stupid as all hell and it makes me hate the story even more for making me look at it. For example: JJJ-thebanisher's story "Mattias the One Knight" has several pictures of little boys. Understandable, the story's main character is a little boy, but something about those pictures make me feel mad. First you have a kid dressed as a cowboy pointing a finger gun, then you have a kid smiling, then (and this one sends me over the top) you have a kid hugging a damn tree! Why is he hugging a tree?! Why? I couldn't even finish the story because that one picture gets to me so much and I don't know why.

I like to see that a writer might take the extra time to find or draw a picture that is relevant to the story. Although if you have more than one picture per page it gets extremely annoying and unnecessary if you have good descriptive writing in the story.
