Hello! Just dropped in to say hi, as I'm new around here.

Now that I'm completely addicted to these storygames, I really want to make one of my own. Any advice?

Read this thread, it's basically about people on this site speculating on what makes a good story, and welcome to the site.

Welcome to the site! If you need help on a story just contact me! Oh, and here's some links to articles about storygames:

Thank you both! This is a huge help. On that note, I should probably just read all the Help articles, haha.

Also, can someone explain how the forum stories work to me? Are they essentially role play threads?

This place has eaten my brain

Basically. I haven't played one but maybe someone else can explain it. And you're welcome! wink

This place has eaten my brain

Some are. Forum games are just Play By Post, little diversions that are fun to partake of.

This place has eaten my brain

Maybe someone could play Dungeons & Dragons on there. Hell, I've always wanted to play some D&D.

This place has eaten my brain

That would be awesome. Can posts have a dice-roll feature? I think I read that the story games can.

This place has eaten my brain

No, only in advanced text editor which can only be used in storygames can rolls be made.

InvisibleCastle is one method, but it's unreliable unless we make an account and all that jazz.

This place has eaten my brain

That would be pretty hard. Maybe you can put it in the Feature Wishing Well and maybe (a chance of one in a million) the admins will make it for the Forum Games part of the forums.

This place has eaten my brain

Well, to be fair, the GM can just roll in their story game and tell you the results in the posts.

This place has eaten my brain

Set-up takes too long, and sometimes we have to wait days on each other for simple free-forms.

A DnD campaign wouldn't be very easy to maintain.

This place has eaten my brain

Ah, well, so much for that dream.

This place has eaten my brain

You're right. My grandpa (Who is a complete role playing geek) told me about how his friend who was always the dungeon master would take all week to make a dungeon and on the weekends they would play.

This place has eaten my brain

Does anyone illustrate their own storygames?

This place has eaten my brain

Not that I know.

This place has eaten my brain

Too much work?

This place has eaten my brain

No, but I read a bit of your story (Yes you can do that if you go into a user's EXP and click on a storygame that hasn't been published) and I actually saw a picture of a boy getting out of bed. Did you draw that. If you did then great job!

This place has eaten my brain

Whoa, wait, you can see it?!

*dies of embarrassment*

-edit-

and yeah, I did, mostly because I didn't know how to cram a physical description of the character into the story without making it weird.

This place has eaten my brain

Yeah, you can do that and in my opinion it is brilliant. It's very descriptive and there's an option to choose your name! But of course if girls want to play it you should make that option (And, no, I'm not a chick). The beginning actually reminds me of a scrapped storygame idea I had called "Paladin".

This place has eaten my brain

Hm... Well, yeah you're an amazing artist!

This place has eaten my brain

Thank you! And thanks for the heads up about the EXP link; I'm going to waste so much time going around hunting for secret unpublished ones now, haha.

Also, your Crossing a Canyon storygame made me laugh out loud. Especially the Delorean and Mike.

This place has eaten my brain

Thanks. Oh and if you want to know how to make it secret, then make it advanced (Don't worry, the advanced editor doesn't bite!) and uncheck the box that says "Allow Sneak Preview".

This place has eaten my brain

Gotcha. I'll admit, the whole 'no going back' on the Advanced Editor scared me off a bit, haha.

I'm guessing the Sneak Preview is for advertising the story and letting others beta-test/proofread?

This place has eaten my brain

Pretty much.

This place has eaten my brain

No, it just makes it so it's on your profile. People can sneak into the EXP and check it out if it has the sneak preview option.

This place has eaten my brain

Oh and if you liked that story, check out my other ones (Life Sucks is so far what I think is the best).

This place has eaten my brain

Don't worry no one know about it except me... Wait, this is a forum. Well I guess that secret's out. Sorry frown.

This place has eaten my brain

I know some people get friends to draw art of it.

This place has eaten my brain

Do they use those pictures in the actual storygame?

This place has eaten my brain

Yep. Check out A Game of Life and Death and Farewell My childhood Self.

This place has eaten my brain

I will, thanks! I guess I'm nervous about the level of art needed in order to not break immersion in the game.

This place has eaten my brain

Well, from what I've seen of the art you are an amazing artist. Hell, I'd go as far as to say it's fitting enough for a manga!

This place has eaten my brain

ISentinelPenguinI illustrates his own games I think.

This place has eaten my brain

Welcome to the site, enjoy your stay!

This place has eaten my brain

Thank you! And glad to know that illustrations aren't some kind of faux pas, haha.

This place has eaten my brain

Hm, I think I should probably make a shorter game just to get used to the advanced editor. The variables and item options have me going cross-eyed.

How the heck did BerkaZerka make Dungeon Stompage?!?!?!?!

This place has eaten my brain

Blood, sweat, and tears. Oh wait, that's what's put into Zynga games (The blood, sweat, and tears of people who believe in non-social games).

This place has eaten my brain

Welcome, enjoy your stay :D

I think you have enough advice on storygames, so I'll spare you my hyperlink spam xD

This place has eaten my brain

I remember the one you put on my old post "WHY SO MANY CATS?". You were like: "WOOOOOOOO!!!!! HYPERLINKSSSSSS!!!!! ugh... being up for day hurts my back...."

This place has eaten my brain

It was certainly a lot of hyperlinks to many threads xD

This place has eaten my brain

Yeah it was... HYPERLINKSSSSSSSSS!

This place has eaten my brain

Hi Quiller. You seem literate. That's refreshing.

And I know it's been said, but if you don't want anyone to be able to snoop through your unfinished work, never ever use the Sneak Peek thing. The way the site stores story URLs is really, really straightforward and easy to figure out.

Anyhow, really looking forward to Becoming Legend.

This place has eaten my brain

I'm looking forward to "Atonement".

This place has eaten my brain

Thank you!

I'll try not to disappoint, haha.

This place has eaten my brain

Yeah I did the EXP point trick to read it twice, and so far it's amazing.

P.S. Oh yeah and once you're done with that I'm working on a sequel to my story "Cross a Canyon" called "Rob The Bank". So if you're willing to help me one you get done with Atonement just PM me and I'll add you as a co-author.

This place has eaten my brain

I never new about that trick, but even without it all you need to know is the title. And then just go to http://chooseyourstory.com/story/[STORYNAME]

This place has eaten my brain

Yeah it's really easy, here's a way to do it (In case you didn't read my post up there!):

Step 1) Go to the member's page.

Step 2) Click on their EXP points.

Step 3) Find the story and click on the link.

Step 4) Read the story!

That's ebebebebebe all folks!

This place has eaten my brain

However if you rate it you'll be in trouble because you'll have gained a point for an unpublished game - which isn't allowed. Reading it is totally fine though :D

This place has eaten my brain

Really.....oops.....

This place has eaten my brain

What did you do?

This place has eaten my brain

First off, I highly doubt that is an actually rule considering I used to report stuff about unpublished games to JJ and he never punished me, but if it is, I have rated quite a few unpublished games xD

This place has eaten my brain

That's our Brad! laugh *Audience applause* *Frame freezes and end credits start*

This place has eaten my brain

*le gasp*

Wait, one of my games has a rating?

Excuse me while I rush off to go obsess over it.

This place has eaten my brain

cool

This place has eaten my brain

I gave it a 6. Brad gave it a 4. Obsess over your first rating It's never as good the second time around...

This place has eaten my brain

I was considering giving it a five but I decided agaisnt it (obviusly).

This place has eaten my brain

You misspelled obviously... I'll most likely be the new infamous Grammar Nazi... Hail, 11302!

This place has eaten my brain

Hm, the editor seems to keep eating parts of my sentences, even when I copy and paste it straight out of Word.

Any idea how I can get it to stop doing that?

...Oh schnazzle, two comments?! Ensue freakout.

This place has eaten my brain

Do you mean it keeps scrambling them? That is because the editor is bugged.

This place has eaten my brain

I did not! How dare you insult my personal dictionary!

Normally I can ninja edit before anyone notices xD

This place has eaten my brain

Same with me. I typed that in under 3 seconds.

This place has eaten my brain

I gave it an 8 to balance what I felt was an unfair and premature rating.

This place has eaten my brain

I think that was unfair considering you were rating it randomly.

This place has eaten my brain

Still it's not a finished product, so giving it a 4/8 even though it's nt finished is a dickish move. frown

This place has eaten my brain

Not in my opinion, I rated it as I saw fit, If I was rating it like any normal story, I would of gave it a one or two because it was unfinished.

I am sure the author would like some feedback anyway, when he is finished I will reread and most likely change my rating.

This place has eaten my brain

No harm, no foul. wink

I think there were valid points - since I didn't even realize the editor was chomping up my sentences before Brad pointed out that there were grammar mistakes.

You guys are all super awesome with the fast feedback; I wasn't even expecting any until it was published.

This place has eaten my brain

Well expect it to hit the top games list one day. You may be the JJJ-thebanisher!

This place has eaten my brain

No, when it is finished, I will go back, play it, and rate it again. But, in all reality, it was unfair for you to rate it, Brad; it's not even finished. I was afraid that if it got out there with such a bad score, nobody would want to play it. Maybe I shouldn't have done that, but I feel that was right, so I'm sticking behind it.

This place has eaten my brain

Like my game "Cross a Canyon" it got a 2/8 so no one has played it all day...

This place has eaten my brain

I will rate in in a few minutes if you wish. You should advertise it in the Parlor room. Tell people about it and stuff.

This place has eaten my brain

Yeah , thanks. Just be warned: I made it short on purpose. And I'll be sure to advertise it in the morning (Who would reply this late at night?).

This place has eaten my brain

Eh, I helped(?) on yah cake game, I shall help(?) again!

This place has eaten my brain

Yeah. Who knew that game would get a sequel?

This place has eaten my brain

I think everyone who read the comments section did xD

This place has eaten my brain

Oh yeah.

This place has eaten my brain

Remember, different time zones! It is 5:39 at the moment where I live.

This place has eaten my brain

It's 9:40 where I live.

This place has eaten my brain

If he didn't want anyone to rate it, why leave an endgame link xD

Frankly, I find it a dickmove to leave a fake review because you find all the existing ones unfair.

*Read my reply to 11302*

This place has eaten my brain

Why leave an endgame link? Planning ahead, maybe. I put endgame links in my unfinished games because I expect people NOT to show up and crap rate them because they aren't finished. I hate to be blunt, but this is a nasty tendency you have. You could have easily sent him criticisms through pm.

Normally, I try not to mess with unpublished games, but I feel what you did was unfair. You probably wouldn't have even known about the game until someone mentioned the points trick. I don't mean to be rude, but what you did was really harsh.

This place has eaten my brain

Your games don't have sneak preview, his does. I find it worse leaving a fake review than a honest one.

Actually james, I found the point 'trick' by myself haha, I had told JJ about it in the "Points reward thread" because he was wondering why I was reporting unpublished games (Unintentionally by the way).

This place has eaten my brain

I didn't leave a fake review. I didn't leave a review at all. I saw the game. I saw that it had a compelling plot. I saw that it was very well-written...and then I saw you attacking it because it was unfinished. Yeah, that was a dick move. Guess what, at least I will go back and change my rating after it is published and a few people play it. I just don't want a good game being damned because you felt the need to review his game while it was unfinished (he's a new member; he has no clue about sneak preview.), instead of pming him with your ideas.

This place has eaten my brain

1. I was using review loosly.

2. I didn't attack it, I left criticism, there is a difference.

3. I already said I will probably change my rating after reading again when it is published.

4. He does know about sneak preview, because we told him about it....

This place has eaten my brain

You can probably be the next 'big reviewer' on the site, Brad. But that's your choice.

This place has eaten my brain

I don't have a good enough thought process to become a 'big reviewer' xD

This place has eaten my brain

Well hey, think about it. At one point Danaos was just a regular user. Now look at him!

This place has eaten my brain

No seriously, I either forget everything I was about to write or I simply do not know how to write it :D

This place has eaten my brain

That happens to me sometimes. I want to become an admin one day... But that's just a dream... (My trophy would have a seven on it and all you would need to get it is to have a featured comment... Yeah, I thought about it!)

This place has eaten my brain

I have had experience in moderating and it is fun to do. I have thought about it too, probably because I am always tired and need something to daydream about :D

This place has eaten my brain

I've never had experience in moderating... I've always wanted to (I've always nearly gotten there on like, Minecraft servers, but then an update comes and I lose the ip address, so the opportunity gets washed down the drain...) .

This place has eaten my brain

I probably would of became a moderator in a server I played on if I didn't become inactive.

This place has eaten my brain

Hm... Well yeah, on the servers I would get really close with everyone and I became a huge part of the community... I've even helped bust a hacker/griefer (Is that how you spell it, griefer?) before! Sadly I got a new computer after my old one stopped working so I lost the ip address to all the servers... sad

This place has eaten my brain

I often laughed at the griefer's and waited for them to get banned. I had special permissions so I could use infinite resources anyway.

This place has eaten my brain

Yeah I never got those. But I was always called the "Unofficial Admin". Hell, I started a church talking about the creation of Minecraft. (Yes, I did that...)

P.S. There's my catchphrase again! Yeah, yeah, I get it, it's still not gonna be put on your profile page...

This place has eaten my brain

I am flattered you like it so much xD

This place has eaten my brain

Like what so much?

This place has eaten my brain

My Hall of Fame :D

This place has eaten my brain

Yeah, I really think it's cool! Of course it needs a touch of yours truly! laugh

This place has eaten my brain

Honestly, I'm thankful for feedback from all of you. I'm not discouraged or anything, and I did know about the sneak preview (although I didn't know unfinished games could be rated, haha)

It was just going to be a game made for the sake of advanced editor practice, but now I'm totally motivated to make the game live up to the amount of effort you guys are putting into rating it!!!!

This place has eaten my brain

Yeah, if you need beta-testers, just contact us!

This place has eaten my brain

I'm sure he didn't know when he put the link. Plus, how could your review be honest? You didn't even see a complete game. I know that I have been guilty of reviewing unpublished games once or twice, but it's like you intentionally went after that game as soon as you learned about its existence. You could have sent him your ideas via pm or post them in this thread, if he would've allowed it. I feel that would have been more appropriate.

This place has eaten my brain

Also, I forgot to add but how is "'Twas a very good read, there were a few grammar mistakes and it obviously isn't finished, but it has great potential. The descriptions were very good and enticing." attacking somebody?

He has already said he liked the feedback so I don't know why you are continuing but I left a honest review on what was there. In my review I specifically said that I acknowledged it wasn't finished and I rated it accordingly. If you found my review unfair, you should of reported it, not left a fake rating.

"it's like you intentionally went after that game as soon as you learned about its existence" - I do that to every game if I am not tired xD

This place has eaten my brain

You gave an honest rating...over something that may very well be 1/20 of the actual game. It is my honest and humble opinion that you should wait until the author invites you to test play and rate a game before you rate it. Yes, I know rating inflating is wrong, but so is counting down on an unfinished game's rating because it is unfinished. Also, if you believed that the story game was great for what it was, why did you give it a "slightly better than homework" rating?

This place has eaten my brain

If a author has it on sneak preview, and has an endgame link, that is all I need as permission.

It was actually a hard pick between four or five but I eventually landed on four, four is an average rating for me. The grammar was probably a deciding factor considering it was so close. Obviously, the fact it isn't finished is going to play a role into the deciding rating. If it was a published game I probably would of gave it a one or two.

Also, I ignore the "Slightly better than homework" and the other comments because they are subjective and meant as a joke :D

This place has eaten my brain

No, 5 is the standard vote. 4 is the "mediocre" rating. It is perfectly fine to be critical, but to rate a game poorly because it is unfinished...when the author joined...what...2 days ago...is wrong.

This place has eaten my brain

When the author joined is irrelevant to this discussion.

Mediocre is a very low average, which I would give a three, a four is a high average. A five is a good read, a six is very good, a seven is one of the best and an eight is a perfect storygame.

'Tis how I rate, 'Tis how I will continue to rate.

This place has eaten my brain

Great rating system, Brad. But in all of your reviews you mainly focus on the "Bad, And The Ugly" when it should be: "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly".

This place has eaten my brain

Yes, I have noticed that I tend to do that unfurtunatly.

This place has eaten my brain

*Unfortunately The Hitler of the Grammar Nazis hath returned! Hail, 11302!

This place has eaten my brain

I think commenting on grammar is a good thing when reviewing storygames.

(Did I spell unfortunately wrong xD)

This place has eaten my brain

Yes you did, sadly...

This place has eaten my brain

That's not funny. Making a G look like a swastika... god. You realize over a million Jews were murdered by Hitler, right? And yet you still make this comparison. Are you insensitive, or just ignorant?

This place has eaten my brain

Stop being such a powdered prick and loosen up. It was meant as a joke.

This place has eaten my brain

Let me guess,  you're Jewish sensitive about World War II

This place has eaten my brain

Don't be an asshole. It's not something to joke about. And I KNOW it was used before, but do you think using something that looks like a swastika, on a red and black background, talking about Nazis? And the site has a clause in the rules about bigoted comments. This qualifies as bigoted. Is it so important to  call me out based on religion, instead of doing the RIGHT thing? You're the prick here, buddy.

God.

This place has eaten my brain

Whether it looks like a swastika or not is irrelevant. He said nothing offensive to me, who it was targeted at, or anyone else other than you. As I have said before, the swastika does not mean hate in a large portion of history and the world, and it will continue to exist in that form. 11032 said nothing bigoted, he just made a comment that was random and unneeded. There is a difference. And so what if he was a Nazi, if you want to debate it, make a forum topic. He can hold to his views as much as you can hold to yours, asking him to "do the right thing" just sounds silly.

Quiller has already said he doesn't want this to turn into a Nazi debate, so heed what he said and go elsewhere.

This place has eaten my brain

He is entitled to his views, promoting hatred is another thing. And Quiller's wishes are irrelevant.

This place has eaten my brain

"He is entitled to his views, promoting hatred is another thing" - Maybe so, but he wasn't promoting hate at all, not to me or anyone else. Like I said, I took no offense to it at all.

"And Quiller's wishes are irrelevant. " - I beg to differ. If you want to discuss your views on Nazism, go ahead and make a new thread.

This place has eaten my brain

Wow, I have nothing to say other than laugh,

The Swastika has been around for thousands of years, long before Hitler, and it will stay long after Hitler. The first place it was found is Africa I believe on a shield, and then it made it's way to India and Buddhism. The Swastika means peace and luck in may places of the world.

I would recommend taking a read up on this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika#Buddhism

This place has eaten my brain

Thanks, Brad, for the diplomatic and historically correct answer.

Also, I don't have any administrative power over my own intro thread, but can we please, PLEASE not get into a debate about Hitler and WWII? There is literally no possible way it can end well and everyone will just end up offended or frustrated.

Unless your a troll. In that case, please do not feed the troll.

This place has eaten my brain

I think this time is fine. It doesn't really matter since your vote carries more weight than mine. But, if I see you do something like that again, I won't hesitate to report it. That was a low blow and you know it.

This place has eaten my brain

Eep. My self intro thread somehow became a debate war on review ethics.

I don't know whether to be scared or incredibly flattered.

This place has eaten my brain

In between is okay.

This place has eaten my brain

"I won't hesitate to report it." - That is what you should of done anyway. I don't think it is a low blow at all and I will continue to do it until I am punished or the community as a whole sides against me, even then I would probably do it anyway without realizing. I don't see the problem since quill already said he liked the feedback, he is either laughing at us or cringing.

This place has eaten my brain

I know that's what I should have done. Still, how your rating is anymore acceptable than mine I fail to see. You won't make me out to be the bad person here.

This place has eaten my brain

I rated it honestly, you rated it because you felt the existing ratings were unfair. There is a big difference.

"You won't make me out to be the bad person here." -  That is all relative to the person viewing you and I, I know I am viewing you in the wrong.

I also don't know why you keep ignoring the fact that quill liked the feedback anyway.

This place has eaten my brain

Well, the guy joined yesterday and started working on the game today. At the time he started working on it, he had no idea that an endgame link could ultimately affect the overall rating of his game. I think that deserves a special lenience. Plus, once it is finished and has been published for a little while, I will go back, read it again, and give it a rating that reflects upon the whole story.

This place has eaten my brain

Again, I have already said multiple times that I will go back and probably change the rating. Also, like I have already said, he knew exactly what sneak preview is because we told him about it, he knows what an endgame link is because he has rated a lot of games already and...it is in the name.

In the end, he liked the feedback so again, I don't see the problem.

This place has eaten my brain

Either way, you were prematurely judging a storygame. That is the equivalent of firing your accountant because he has an ingrown hair on his pinky. Plus, your comment was really vague. It just told him that his grammar was a little poor and that his game was unfinished: two things he most likely already knows.

You do this too often. You go to unfinished games and either crap rate them or recommend them for deletion. Granted, some of them deserve it, but going through someone's points to find  people's unfinished games...with the intention of rating them...is a very crappy thing to do.

This place has eaten my brain

He already said he didn't know about the grammar and the reason I wrote "Obviously" is because I realized it was "Obvious".....

I also told him that it has good potential and the descriptions were very good, you seemed to have ignored this part for some reason.

I have also already said, that I struggle to put words from my head down onto paper, I realize most of my reviews ain't very descriptive but they do contribute something.

Again, I have also already said that if he didn't want me to rate it, he would of removed the sneak peak (Which we told him about, as I have already said) so I don't see the problem. And lastly, like I have already said, he liked the feedback anyway so I don't see the problem.

This place has eaten my brain

It doesn't matter if he liked the feedback or not. If you get raped and you kinda enjoy it, does that meant that the rapist should get away free? No. I probably shouldn't be so mean about it, but you can't act like that and then tell someone they did wrong because they tried to bring balance to a highly unfair situation. Unless I am mistaken, I didn't do anything that goes against site rules. It might be frowned upon, but so is breast feeding in public.

This place has eaten my brain

Hell, If I got raped and enjoyed it, I wouldn't call it rape xD

I also didn't do anything against the rules so I don't see why that matters.

Because you called me out for high voting a game to make up for a vote that you gave without sufficient reason.

Also, you can still get physical pleasure out of sex, even if it isn't consensual. That doesn't mean it won't affect you or your mind in the long run.

Um, guys, this is starting to get a little ugly.

As far as I'm concerned, MadBrad gave it a 4/8 because he saw that some of my paragraphs and sentences ended mid-word because of an editor SNAFU, which is fair enough. I also really appreciate james giving it an 8/8 for potential and so that other people would still play it when it's done, which I can only say was done with the best of intentions.

It was very thoughtful of both of you, and I decided to leave the end game and rate link in because honestly, I do just want to know what people think whether they think it deserves a 1/8 or an 8/8.

This place has eaten my brain

Alright. If you say so. I don't argue with people unless I feel there is a legitimate reason or they stepped on my toes, but I'm willing to put it aside.

Thanks. Peace bros.

Can both of y'all shut up, you're going to weird out the new guy

Make a separate thread if you want to ask about the site's policy on rating unpublished stories.

This place has eaten my brain

I agree with her. While both of you are valued members of the site, and you guys are both cool with me, but don't keep spamming your argument about nothing! That's all that needs to be said.

This place has eaten my brain

>While both of you are valued members of the site

xD

This place has eaten my brain

I don't get how it's funny...

This place has eaten my brain

He's saying that we are not valued members. It's alright. I tend not to take his insults too seriously.

This place has eaten my brain

Oh... HA HA HA HA HA HA! OH MY GOD THAT'S F***ING HILARIOUS! (I'm not trying to be dick. I really think you guys are valued members of the site.)

This place has eaten my brain

I think everyone's valued so long as they aren't a troll and make at least some effort at not belittling others.

This place has eaten my brain

Yeah. Hell, you guys are more valued than I am. And I've been on the site longer! (Although I just left for no reason for like, 4 months, then I came back.)

This place has eaten my brain

In all fairness, Brad does contribute more than I do.

This place has eaten my brain

I'm not gonna lie to you, he does.

EDIT: I just checked out both of your profiles, and you post waaaaay more than he does. But Brad does more reviewing than posting so... Yeah.

This place has eaten my brain

I actually have a higher post count I think, almost all of them are in forum games though.

This place has eaten my brain

Well, you are co-authoring a story in addition to talking in a bunch on the forums. So far, I don't think brad has made a story game or co-authored one.

This place has eaten my brain

So are you saying someone has to publish a story to be a 'worthwhile' member of the site?

This place has eaten my brain

Look at me! I've published 5 stories (Yes, there's five now) and I'm not that worthwhile!

This place has eaten my brain

I've read a few of them.

This place has eaten my brain

Still, they're not that good.

This place has eaten my brain

"The hunt for cake" was okay. The others didn't really appeal to me that much, especially "cross a canyon" and "rob a bank".

This place has eaten my brain

Cross a canyon was a cool one, though extremely short.

This place has eaten my brain

Yeah... I did gain inspiration from a flash game series so most of the options are visual... Oh btw the flash game series I'm talking about is the Henry Stickmin series. Google it, you'll eventually find it.

Wait, can someone remind me how this thread got from welcoming a new member to this?

This place has eaten my brain

... "Cats?" I say. Little did I know that caused an earthquake in China.

This place has eaten my brain

No, I'm just saying that  james has a contributed as much as brad has.

This place has eaten my brain

It helps...a lot, but still, so long as they aren't being complete assholes (not mentioning any names), they do have a place here. At least, that's how I feel right now.

This place has eaten my brain

He's working on one from what I know.

I have helped people on there storygames and actually have one of my own xD

*Their Grammar Nazi has returned!!!

This place has eaten my brain

I think I post more than james as well but I suppose that is subjective, I know I don't post as much as I used to.

This place has eaten my brain

Look at james' profile then look at your own. He has at least 150 or more posts.

This place has eaten my brain

We don't count Forum Games post. I had over twenty thousand and he had around nineteen I think, we recently decided to stop counting Forum games though.

This place has eaten my brain

Jesus, that's a lot...

This place has eaten my brain

Twenty thousand? You mean two thousand? :P But that's even exaggerating it a bit. I think both of yours were around one thousand something, before the cut off.

This place has eaten my brain

Yes 2000. Spelling error, james would be 1900.

I was actually rounding the numbers so I wouldn't call it exaggerating. We were pretty close, that is true.

This place has eaten my brain

that's only one, two, three. 100 posts apart!

This place has eaten my brain

Rounding numbers......

I probably had around 2400 but rounding makes it so much simpler!

This place has eaten my brain

I'm not that stupid Brad, I knew you rounded them. That up there was a joke.

This place has eaten my brain

I'm pretty sure Madbrad had a little over two thousand one hundred  before the cut off.

This place has eaten my brain

Ahahaha, oops?

I wasn't sure what to put there since that was a dead end. Should probably get rid of that, huh?

@11302: Aw, Crossing deserves better than that. Can you rate a game more than once?

This place has eaten my brain

Sadly, no. sad

This place has eaten my brain

Actually you can but unfortunately it counts both votes.

This place has eaten my brain

No, it says it will only count your most recent vote.

This place has eaten my brain

I have tested it myself, it counts both votes. And I am pretty sure JJ mentioned it somewhere.

Also, if you double click the rating I think it does it too.

This place has eaten my brain

Darn. If it's any consolation, I gave it a 5/8 then a 6/8

This place has eaten my brain

Thanks. I didn't think people would like it though. I hope the sequel will be better! Oh if you want to read what I have so far here's a link to it:

EDIT: Well now it's done.

This place has eaten my brain

Yes... it is an actual rule, but it's not enforced very often since many people break it and even moderators (no names will be mentioned) break the rule often :s

This place has eaten my brain

Is this written down anywhere?

This place has eaten my brain

No, the community guidelines aren't written down anywhere. I have looked over and over again.

This place has eaten my brain

There are a few in the help&info but I don't think people pay attention to them (Other than the minimum site standards)xD

This place has eaten my brain

Still, I think that if the mods/admins are going to hold people to rules, they should all be published in one convenient location, instead of scattered about or not published at all.

This place has eaten my brain

Common sense used to be prevalent on the site, so there was no need to write down each and every single assumed rule - only the important ones.

This place has eaten my brain

Regardless, now there is a need for a list of rules, neat and orderly, published in one place.

This place has eaten my brain

They are not really...rules though.

This place has eaten my brain

It's a bit unfair though - if I went and rated every unpublished storygame, I'd have over 2,000 points easily.

This place has eaten my brain

If someone leaves an endgame and sneak peak on, I don't see the problem.

This place has eaten my brain

I don't know exactly what I'm talking about, but I feel like I should carry through assuming I know exactly what I'm saying.

Hello and welcome to CYS. My name is James. If you pm me, I will do everything in my power to help you. Aside from that, just read the help and info articles; they will tell you everything you need to know to write a story.

Co-authors Wanted!

I'm not trying to spam saying no one wants to co-author a storygame I want to make, but at this point I'm desperate, so if anyone cares then PM if you want to be a co-author. You may want to read this first, though:

Holy shit, what happened to this post?

This place has eaten my brain

On an entirely new subject, does anyone know how to break item loops? I have it set so that an item takes you to the previous page, but it turns out that if you use another item before going back, you end up in an endless loop between the two item pages.

This place has eaten my brain

This might be better posting in the Advanced Editor Forum or making a new thread in the Newbie Cental.

This place has eaten my brain

Hmm...the easiest thing to do would be to go to items and set up and effect making it so that you can't use that particular item on other item pages.

This place has eaten my brain

Hello! Sorry I seem to be a bit late in the welcoming, so uh, welcome to the site! >.< All I advise in the way of story-game-making is to make sure you like it yourself and enjoy what you do as you make it and publish it. Correct grammar/spelling and details couldn't hurt though.laugh

@jamescoker1226 @Madbrad200 @the_quiller

Don't rate unpublished storygames. If they are no-effort crap storygames or storygames from inactive users, I probably won't notice/care but still don't do it. If it's an in-progress good storygame, then don't do it. No penalties this time, but if it happens again, there will be point penalties. Your argument that 'sneak preview was on, so I'm allowed' is akin to saying that it's okay to murder someone if they let you in their house. That's not a solid argument.

Authors, don't use sneak preview and wait until the end to add end game links if you do use sneak preview.

This place has eaten my brain

Sorry. It got a little out of hand, I know.

This place has eaten my brain

I'm INCREDIBLY late to the party, but I need the truth to be spoken. Madbrad lied to you, Quill. I have not illustrated any of my stories THUS FAR, but I haven't put any images in my stories anyway. I merely said I'm working on one in which I will draw all the pictures. Glad to see there's a better artist than me representing the self-illustrated genre, though.

This place has eaten my brain

Well, if I can get my scanner thing to work right, all of my stories will have pictures drawn by me or have none at all. Or if I can make the things that I make in photo shop look good.   This is something I made in photo shop. It's the first good looking thing so far.

This place has eaten my brain

I'm quickly realizing the sheer amount of work it'll take to illustrate every page, haha.

But I'm glad to find other artists on this site.

I've been working on making a 'cover' illustration of sorts, but I ended getting really carried away:

There goes five hours of my life that I will never get back, and it still isn't done, hahah...

This place has eaten my brain

That's amazing. That flower up there that I made took about 3 hours and it's not even close to as good as your picture here is. Hmmm......... Have you ever heard of deviantart?

This place has eaten my brain

Wow, that's great.

This place has eaten my brain

How do you get your  pics up on the internet? I used Picasa once in a desperate attempt to replace picturepaste, but it stopped loading new pictures in.

This place has eaten my brain

Why not imgur?

This place has eaten my brain

Imgur, in my experience, has generally been a bitch to deal with. Not as much as photobucket, but still. Not to mention, I lost my password long ago.

This place has eaten my brain

Really? I never encountered any problems. And how hard is it to make a new account or retrieve your password? Anyway, they don't even need you to be registered to upload images. The quality is great to.

Other than that you can use Tinypic but it's meh

This place has eaten my brain

On the internet, so every one can see them, or on the internet so if I lose it on my computer I can still find it if I go online?

If it's the second one, then just upload your pictures to your email.

This place has eaten my brain

On the internet, so I can copy-paste it to my storygame pages if that starts working again.

This place has eaten my brain

Then just save them in your email.
