I don't have a published story yet, so I'm curious about something.  When you get a new comment on a story you published, does the system let you know?  Or do you have to just keep checking  your stories over and over again?

Also, I'm wondering if most people go back to read every comment left.

No, the system doesn't let you know. Just check your 'Comments' section underneath the 'My Stuff' tab regularly.

I don't think most people go back...personally I don't, so yea xD

Alright.  Thanks.

Though doesn't it half defeat the purpose of getting and giving comments if no one looks at them? :)

Definitely. I disagree with Connection_ICA - many storygame authors read the comments on their storygames, if not for the constructive criticism or praise then for entertainment. I don't know for sure which authors look over their comments and which do not (aside from EndMaster, who does, and Connection_ICA, who doesn't), but I'd wager that the vast majority of good writers on this site check in on their storygames to read feedback.

One of the reasons for having comments is so that authors can see where they've gone wrong and what they've done right and improve their writing skills by acting on this feedback.

I have to admit, I wish I was faster at making my games so that I could get comments, good and bad.  Too bad the system doesn't have a notification system.  Oh well. :)  I don't know how easy it is to make those sort of things, since I have absolutely no code savvy.

Why not request it in the Feature Wishing Well? As far as I know there's no other thread with the same request.

Because, and to be honest this is awful of me, I don't really have the patience to go all the way back to see what has/has not been suggested, and I don't want to be too repetitive. ;)  I think I read something about it being frowned upon to put forth an idea that had already been turned down.

Just took me about 12 seconds to go to FWW, the command+f (CTRL+F) the word "comment" and find five requests regarding comments, none of which involve notifications.

Not that hard haha, especially considering there's only one page of unaccepted requests.

(The way I wrote that looks angry for some reason, sorry!)

Ummm.

For people like Endmaster, who have 6+ storygames and who get several comments from each per day, that's just not a good idea.

In My Stuff there's a component that lists all your recent comments on your storygames, which is fine.

Ah, okay.  So, the system doesn't tell you, but there's a single page to look at to show new activity across your games?

If you go to My Stuff, there's a container that has the newest comments on your stories. It won't show all the comments ever though, just like the 30 or so most recent ones across all your storygames.

At least it's something. :D  But, I won't see how well it works until I finish a story.  But I find it really hard to concentrate on writing with this damned head cold I have.  My brain...hurts.  (Okay, that's not technically true, since the brain has no nerves, but that's still how it seems.)

I do read my storygame's comments - I misread the question. I thought you mean do commenters go back to check on new comments. Yes, it is always good to read your comments.

I personally like to read every comment on my story, especially if I'm about to start working on another  or update an existing one. Makes for good pointers on how to improve stuff.

I read every post on my story when I first published it, then un-published within 24 hours due to them. I hadn't proof read it properly and so it had many many spelling and minor grammatical errors. So reading them all saved me for leaving a not very good story up on the site and I've been editing it since then to improve it. So I know I'll be the type that goes back each time to read every quote.
