I don't know books of anything steampunk, but there are a couple movies that really hit the spot when you need inspiration for what steampunk is.
The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello is a good movie, very steam-punk.
The Golden Compass is set in a fictionalized steampunk world.
As well as Van Helsing is somewhat steampunk-like.
Each of the movies are decently good, and they have many steampunk aspects. For those who don't know, steampunk is "a genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery rather than advanced technology." though many people take it much further as the popularity grows for odd clothing, industrialized inventions, and innovative ways of doing things mostly pertaining to steam power.
Knowing the basic definition gives a slight insight into what steampunk is, as a genre, and can do as an imaginative spark for authors and readers.
"Personally, I think Victorian fantasies are going to be the next big thing, as long as we can come up with a fitting collective term for Powers, Blaylock and myself. Something based on the appropriate technology of the era; like 'steam-punks', perhaps."

Personally, when I think steampunk I think giant waterwheels, factories everywhere, lot's of metal gear, large metal bridges from place to place, airships made from brass and iron, basically - Victorian era dress style, in the industrial revolution, with floating islands, and infinite water.
Edit:: A lot more information can be gathered from reading the
