A lot of us are, I guess. But I don't like pure love stories. I prefer wars with relationships.

A pretty slick Antagonist would be good for that kind of story.

Um... it's a twist I've seen before, but it's not a bad one. I wouldn't have spoiled it on the forums, though, unless you have another twist in store behind that one like Full Moon O Sagashite or one other manga I can think of that handled 'dead boyfriend' rather well.

Romance is nice. It's not easy to make interesting on its own, but it can be done. It does demand a good conflict, though, and that usually requires another genre to be tossed in--like supernatural, for example, as that's presumably what you're doing.

I've always felt romance works best as a subplot to a broader story. For a writer not initially thought of as a romance guy, EndMaster does a great job of writing likable and believable love interests while incorporating them into an overarching story.

I often feel like Romance in a storygam should be a lot like romantic relationships in life, nice parts of something much bigger, and not the entire purpose of the story itself. You can have your ethereal necrophilia, but I'd prefer it if it were involved in something else, because, while I've read a lot of amazing storygames, I've never read an amazing romance storygame, because it always feels like something's missing. Other stories with romantic plots, though? Golden.

"But why?" Derp whispered in his melodic contralto, gazing deeply into Steve's limpid amethyst eyes.  "Why would you ask me to prom, when you're dating Mason?"

Steve tossed his flowing ebony Raven locks as the silver moonlight danced across the waves crashing on the beach where they stood locked in a passionate embrace.

"Because I think you're down for kinky shit."

"Hell yeah," said Derp.

After that, they had sandwiches.

For me, a really captivating romance story needs another conflict to break up all the romance at times, as it can get tiring if it drags on. It seems like romance stories tend to 'tell not show'. I do love a good romance though.

The others are right, romance stories tend to suck by themselves. The closest to pure Romance that's not absolute shit is RomComs, and that's only because they're 99% shit (although I must admit, there's a few I've liked). Romance should be a relationship in a story, not the story, just like any friendship or family or enemies.

I prefer romance incorporated in stories of other natures, not just a straight-up romance story. To me, any romantic relationships in the story shouldn't be the main focus: there has to be other elements involved than just "I like this person, love love love."

Way to ruin your plot twist though ;)

Ha, I read the title a bit differently...

I'm fine with romance stories, but like others have stated, it has to have something else in the midst of romance.

I find most love stories feel forced, so I'm not a huge fan of playing them. I know most love stories kind of have to be forced for obvious reasons, but it still annoys me that it rarely feels like it flows properly.

As for mine, I enjoyed making it, but it wasn't as though I enjoyed making it because it was a love story. I just had an idea and went with it, lol.

It really depends on your definition of romance and love, I guess.  I'm not fond of characters (or real life people, for that matter) who are hormonally driven.
