Questions about a storygame? Thoughts on Eternal? Any other IF you're playing out there?

So, I've been given an IP log of the ratings on the Naruto story that just made it on to the top games list...

There are approximately 50 (if I recall correctly) 8s given from two IPs on guest accounts.

1. Naruto

How disgusting. Who even has that much time!?

1. Naruto

Same IPs address doesn't mean it's necessary that AUTHOR's IPs address.

STOP JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS! UGH!

1. Naruto

Kind of the only conclusion to come to when people from the same IP gave your story a rating that shouldn't even be possible. Even if it's not the author, who's to say that it isn't a friend or someone you know?

For all we know, this could be a conspiracy by the illuminati to stimulate our paranoia so to induce even more mob-lynching on people that might or might not be trolls. :P

1. Naruto

But like all of those people are flaming the author like when it's not even proven that the author did it.

1. Naruto

Which doesn't really matter on the internet.

While it might not be justified to flame the author for the consecutive high rating for a story of that craft, it is not as if the people that rated the story purposefully gave it a low score. They gave it a high score indicating one of two things:

1. They are either associate of the author or the author himself.

2. They are random kind-hearted trolls.

I really doubt it is the 2nd one.

1. Naruto

It doesn't matter over the internet?

You're saying that as long as something is over the internet, it's okay? That's not really nice. Besides, they don't have to be an associate of the author or the author himself/herself to consecutively click on the ratings. The lag will make it so the rating is however much time you click it. So supposedly someone who gets mad because the page isn't loading, they will spam click the rating in anger. And then there we have it...

Flames.

1. Naruto

Considering that the person from the same IP pressed 50 consecutive time, you're saying that they spam click the rating out of anger? Riiight.

Also, there are some things that doesn't matter over the internet and this is one of it. Not sure what you're trying to say here by it being not nice when the story crafted doesn't fit the rating and the fact that two people gave it that rating 50 consecutive time. And I never state that just because something is over the internet makes it irrelevant. Just this one in particular.

I smell BS there.

1. Naruto

It said the combine clicks from two different person from two IPs = about 50 clicks.

So the average is 25 clicks...Clicking something 25 time IS pretty weird, even for someone with anger issues...but some people have problems...

Also, the way you said "it doesn't matter if it's over the internet", make it sound like things done through the internet is okay, when it's not okay done in real life.

My point is that there's no prove that this really have anything to do with the original author, but with the comments below it's like this case had already been trialed, proven, and the author's guilty.

Which is wrong in so many ways.

1. Naruto

And that concerns you how?

1. Naruto

It concerns me because I like winning arguments, and I don't really like seeing injustice over any person for any reason.

Are those valid enough reasons?

1. Naruto

No, they're not haha.

So you like winning arguments? Is that why you're deliberately continuing a clearly incorrect argument riddled with ignorant mistakes? Yup, sounds like it, haha. (And no, i'm not personally attacking you to lessen your argument - your argument was already wrong, now i'm attacking you because you're just being an ass).

This isn't injustice, it's obvious that you uprated your story multiple times to get a good rating and now you're pissed that we noticed and you're trying to save your ass.

^ What Drak says. ^^

I'll admit- you would never be able to convict the author of 1. Naruto in an American Court. 'Insufficient Evidence', 'Innocent until proven guilty' and the whole shebang. However realize that most Law systems over-ride logic, there is a very fine distance between due process and common freaking sense. We may not be able to 100% convict him but when all things point to him, 99.99% is good enough.

We're not killing him, we're unpublishing his story. On the internet.

1. Naruto

What? No it doesn't, lol.

Seriously, you just pulled that straight out of your ass.

1. Naruto

"You're saying that as long as something is over the internet, it's okay? That's not really nice."

... It's the internet. We're not trying to be nice cheeky

1. Naruto

It is highly likely though, probability is reliable enough in this case to be used as replacement to absolute proof.

1. Naruto

I played that game.   I noticed it had a ton of anonymous rave reviews, and one critical grade from Danaos.  (Who was totally right, btw.)  Is review spamming something you'd consider deleting a game over?  (Over which you'd consider deleting a game?)

1. Naruto

Holy hell, that's just a whole new level of pathetic.

The story itself is also plagiarized, shouldn't that be grounds for deletion? (and perhaps a banning?)

1. Naruto

It's in fanfiction for a reason.

Do you even know what the word plagiarize  mean?

1. Naruto

I'm pretty sure the author copied the story from the actual thing. I have never watched it before though, so the person who said that might be rong.

1. Naruto

...

It's an anime and manga.

There's no words. Just pictures...

Copy that.

Besides. Go on fanfiction.com. There's are thousands of them that follows canon. No one tells them that they're plagiarizing.

It's call fanfiction for a reason. Seriously, plagiarizing is taking someone's work and portraying it as your own.  I see no where on the story that says "Hey! This story is mine! I made it! No, there's no such anime or manga call Naruto! What? Who's Mashashi Kishimoto?!"

It's just ridiculous how people think fanfictions that follows the canon as plagiarism.

1. Naruto

It's fanfiction.net not fanfiction.com. Get your websites right.

1. Naruto

It's also a show, haha, and you could have easily taken dialogue from there or from the comic book.

You really don't know what you're getting into when you ask me what words mean, do you?

pla·gia·rize
'plaj??riz/
verb

  1. 1.
take (the work or an idea of someone else) and pass it off as one's own.
synonyms: copy, infringe the copyright of, piratestealpoachappropriateMore

Now, admittedly you are not claiming that the story is yours, but this is hardly fanfiction -

fan fic·tion
noun
noun: fanfiction
  1. 1.
fiction written by a fan of, and featuring characters from, a particular TV series, movie, etc.

You didn't just feature characters or elements of the story, you specifically took the exact plot to the beggining of the show/comic book/whatever, lifted it into a storygame form (which was completely linear - have no idea why you didn't do this literally anywhere else), and you pretended it was fanfiction (I.e: Work that you have made yourself, while using elements from another story, rather than what it actually was: The story in a different medium).

1. Naruto

Read last post to other guy.

1. Naruto

Cherry picking fallacy much? Lol.

Read my entire post, I acknowledged that fanfiction was not plagiarism - but I also pointed out that fanfiction has certain limitations. (I.e: It can't be the exact same goddamn story, with absolutely no variations).

1. Naruto

If you read the story carefully, you would've seen many variations.

"little details and small variations don't matter" fallacy much?

It's like me saying you plagiarize off dictionary.com ... which is ridiculous.

1. Naruto

<.>

<_>

1. Naruto

lol what? I don't understand. Please explain.

1. Naruto

Well for one, you clearly don't know what a fallacy is.

A fallacy is a mistaken belief, especially one based on an unsound argument (I.e: Everything you've said up to this point, haha).

I saw no variations, it was a picture perfect copy of an old Naruto episode I remember seeing as a kid, whatever variations were there were unnoticeable - or so small as to be irrelevent; ergo it is still a a plagiarized work (since you took a story, copied it onto a different template, and then said that you put your personal variation on it, while only taking some elements from the original (What actual fanfiction is)).

Non Sequitur (completely unrelated examples, lol. It would be ridiculous, because it would be a completely innacurate and unrelated statement that has no basis in fact or reason).

1. Naruto

Obviously, you did not notice the quotation marks around my words. For your information, I have a sound knowledge on fallacies, and your argument have plenty of them. Apparently it's also a fallacy to be using fallacies incorrectly, as you have done many times in your post.

Also, how many variations do you need pointing out before you admit that you're wrong?

1. Naruto

And you're arguing to what end again? Even if it wasn't removed, not like anyone liked the game anyway, other than those trolls who were obviously completely different people.

1. Naruto

What? You cherry picked a part of my post (ignoring the rest, ergo, cherry-picking fallacy), and achieved a conclusion unrelated to your previous comment (non sequitur).

Anything that isn't the exact same story and the exact same characters - and for that matter, I would not be admitting I was wrong, you would be admitting you were incorrect, you would change your storygame, make it into an actual fanfiction, and then it would be good enough for me to not call it plagiarism (which it clearly was).

1. Naruto

WTF, really? That's... ... ugh. I have no words for this. Just no.

1. Naruto

:O WAAAAAAAAAAT????

Thats....wow..... FUCK! *flips desk*

1. Naruto

Wo, 50 guest reviews from 2 people? No wonder this game has a rating of 7!

1. Naruto

Not sure what they are trying to get out of it. lol This is pretty sad.

1. Naruto

Hurray! Finally! IP tracking haha!  ^v^

1. Naruto

I have two main things to say:

1. I agree that it's plagiarism, personally. But I will concede that it's not the same as outright plagiarism where no author is credited. It was put in Fan Fiction and I'm not interested in policing exactly how close the FF is to the real thing. I, would personally just rate any storygame that wasn't original enough lowly because it doesn't show much creativity on the author's part. I won't be deleting Fan Fiction storygames for being too close to the original, because they at least credit the creators.

That being said, you need to tone it down WolfPup. I don't know if you're the author's alternate account or just a friend, but your rhetoric is obnoxious and clearly fallacious.

2. The author has agreed to downrate their own storygame. The matter is settled.

1. Naruto

Will they downrate it a number of times equal to the times they uprated it? Because otherwise it doesn't really mean anything...

1. Naruto

It's currently a 4/8, I think that's very reasonable. The author seems generally remorseful and we all make mistakes so I would prefer that we forgive.

They could have created another account and not stood up for themselves. I respect the way they handled it.

That being said, Wolfpup is out of line right now and I hope that it's a different person than the author.

1. Naruto

It's clearly the same guy, no mildly logical person would come to the author's defense, haha.

I mean, he even made a second account just for this thread to seem like he's got some support. (Three accounts, if this is the author, since wolfpup and nmelssx are clearly the same person)

1. Naruto

Listen, I'm more than willing to say that you're 100% correct in your argument with Wolfpup in this thread. I don't think that you've done the perfect job of articulating your winnable position, but I think you've got your point across.

That being said, there's no reason to jump to conclusions.

When we have data that shows 50 ratings from the same IP address, we know that there has been vote rigging. We don't need to make assumptions.

You don't have data showing that Wolfpup is nmelssx. I would say that it's very safe to assume that Wolfpup is either the same account or a real life friend, but I wouldn't go further than that.

However, I'm going to be the guy who comes to the author's defense now. You can call me logicless if you'd like.

I think that the author made a grave mistake and then followed with a bout of honesty and reasonableness. They've atoned for their sins and did what they could to remedy it.

Does that seem like something Wolfpup would do?

1. Naruto

I actually assume that wolfpupnmelssx and the author are all the same person because of the way they title their storygames. I haven't seen a single other person on the site title their games that way, and also - these guys are all defending one another, are relatively new accounts, and nmelssx gave a reply typical of wolfpup in a thread where wolfpup was arguing with someone. It was a situation which he had no relation to up until now, so it's either an alternate author/wolfpup account, or just a huge coincidence.

You are not coming to his defense, far from it. You are saying he is guilty, and then that he fixed his mistake.

Wolfpup? He is saying that the author is not guilty, and that there is no mistake to fix. You are not defending him, you are forgiving him.

1. Naruto

I thought nmelssx was the author of 1.Naruto?  He replied to me when I left a comment on it, anyway.

Anyway, I don't think it's unreasonable to forgive him.  He messaged me and said "thanks for your comments, I'm taking the story down to work on it more before publishing it again."

1. Naruto

Ah, yes, my bad (he changed the name of his storygame to "Your life, your choice", I didn't notice he was the author).

1. Naruto

If they're friends, that could explain why they title their storygames similarly.

It seems to me that Wolfpup is generally unreasonable and nmelssx is generally reasonable. I'm not ready to start a crusade.

I see the difference between forgiveness and defense. Good point.

1. Naruto

How reasonable is he? You seem to be the only one who's spoken with him, and that was via PM. The only two attempts at communication that the general public has seen are two posts consisting of exasperated elipses.

1. Naruto

I apologize for my mistakes. Please forgive me :(

1. Naruto

Seems pretty reasonable...

1. Naruto

I acknowledge your apology but I don't accept it.

1. Naruto

Why don't you check out Sethaniel's second post in this thread.

1. Naruto

I spoke to him/her through PM and we just argued what constitutes plagiarism.

1. Naruto

Wolfpup or the author?

1. Naruto

The actual author. Though I find it likely that Wolfpup is the same person.

1. Naruto

....What?

I've read that story when i was a guest, it seemed pretty funny.

If it WAS the author, he shouldda just let it go.

From the movie Frozen(2013).

That,my good man, is,to quote from drak:"a whole new level of pathetic".
