REC.HA.CE (puzzle contest game)

Cool I guess I finally get to do one of those 'hay gaiz i has idea yaaay' type things. Not a big fan of these on principle, but gotta get those sweet, sweet points so here's my thread.

The Premise:

You may be the only surviving crew member of a scout ship that uncovered vital information about a planned surprise attack from an alien force. Your escape pod lands on a nearby planet that appears uninhabited. The pod's systems took damage but it landed you practically on the doorstep of an abandoned alien bunker, and in order to get off the planet in time to warn the Alliance you have to puzzle out how to get into it and get the unfamiliar computers and equipment working.

ETA:

Before 10 days is up, I really, really hope.

I'll add it in just for you, but I can't promise you'll like the results. :P

Yay!

Sometimes my toaster oven won't work. If I hit it hard enough, in the right spot on the side, it will toast things again :)

All right, can't do any serious work on this until I get home, but here's my first page:

REC.HA.CE.

Those green letters that flickered across your screen at your query, right as the power failed, that's all the information you have about the planet your escape pod has just crashed on, and with both the main computer and onboard scanner out of commission there will be no more forthcoming, nor any way to call for help.

"Recommended for eventual colonization. Hospitable atmosphere. Cold environment."

You know what it means, at least, but other than the knowledge you'll be able to breathe and walk around without special equipment, it doesn't do you very much good.

The good news is, the pod managed to land you alive and in one piece, zeroing in on an Alliance beacon, probably left by the original survey team. They're the ones you have to thank for the eight word description you now have of your location.

The bad news is, the reason you crashed in the first place was because your scout ship was blown to pieces by a Lhasn destroyer. You don't know where the others wound up, or if they even made it to the pods in time. You may well be the only one left. And your crew had information. Vital information, damn it. The most significant being that the Lhasn had somehow managed to build a massive fleet of destroyers once again and were on course for several key Alliance outposts. Your ship's fate, only further proof of their intentions.

That beacon gives you hope, though. The surveyors may be long gone, but they had to have had a base, and it should still be here, close by. There will be communication equipment, scanners, perhaps even a usable ship. Time is of the essence, and the loss of your crew has certainly taken it's toll, but you may be able to salvage this situation yet.

And, that's the only sneak peek anybody is getting. It's not going to be an overly long game, I'll be trying to minimize the spoilers from here on out.

Ooh, I like it. I can't wait to play. Cool setting, solid plot, seems like it'll be enjoyable. I love how these competitions spark so much new games by great authors. Good luck with the competition.

Funnily enough when I read your plot it reminded me of an absolutely brilliant computer game I'd played but had forgotten about. So I thank you for bringing back those pleasant memories.

I'm quite curious to see how you'll apply the solution to fixing the computers. I liked your old Deepwoods game which you wrote in an hour, so I'm excited to read your final story here, given more time to be polished and such.

I like your idea, Mizal. I look forward to seeing how it ends up when you finish. Very cool idea!

Reminds me of "The Weapon"(?) if game about uncovering a galaxy destroying weapon and trying to puzzle your way into the machine, through guessing the right verbs and nouns, ha ha. Sounds awesome.

Well at least it wasn't one of those 'hay gaiz i needs idea plzzz' type things instead! Looks like you've got a pretty solid idea of where to go, so that's good. I like that you gave a good suspenseful hook on the first page, which is always something that makes me want to read on.

Welp.

I was going to finish this this weekend but then I played Stardew Valley instead.

No regrets.
