My contest story, if I finish it (lol), will be about a school that educates and trains potential paladins.

That is all I have to say right now.

I think I can fit the core of the game (the actual classes and school activities) onto about 30 pages.

It's just a matter of figuring out where to insert the little side adventures now.

Game title is now Fantasy Noun Adjective Academy...sorry, I mean Dawnbright Academy.

Please tell me they ride camels.

Story Status: I'm too tired to work on it right now. Maybe tomorrow.

Starting tomorrow, I figure I'll need to write three pages a day at minimum. This is going to be difficult during the week, so it mostly depends on how much I knock out this weekend and the next. I should know by Memorial Day whether I'll have any hope of finishing this or not.

I have no idea what else to type here because it won't be a huge game and there's no point in anyone even playing it if I give away the details.

My bad imitation of a troll aside, so... smaller story, reasonable. Ballpark estimate, how big are you shooting for this thing to be?

Not aiming for a big story at all, there's absolutely no way I could pull it off in that time frame. Though even 'thirty pages' for the classes is a poor estimate...thirty pages will be in use, but there's alternate text and scripting involved that's going to eat up a lot of time.

And...urgh, I've already blown most of the morning poking around on the internet. And tonight I'll be too tired again. I'm really going to have to start forcing myself to stay offline until I get some writing done.

I'm guessing this is going to be your standard high fantasy setting?

Fantasy, yes, but I'm not planning to include any major emphasis on magic. It does exist in the setting and is use in an unobtrusive way in a couple of instances, and there's weird stuff and non-human races taken for granted, but wizards running around flinging fireballs or whatever isn't the kind of thing most people are ever going to encounter. 

Current status: Looking over some script stuff Bucky sent me awhile back, weeping and tearing at my hair.

If you need some help explaining it, Brad can assist as well.

I've got the basic idea down, it's just going to be incredibly tedious and time consuming to implement. The much simpler solution that should work, doesn't, because of a bug apparently, so that sucks.

It's really weird writing a story structured like this. I've got all these little bits and pieces floating around, but I just need to pull the right strings at the end and it'll all come together into...something that resembles a story.

I hope.

Didn't get as much done as I'd hoped this weekend, but it seems we may be getting an extension now so I'm not too worried about it.

I fooled with the scripting a little more and it's starting to come together now, just need to do a looooot of copy and paste, and find and replace.

Steve, Steve, calm down now. While it's perfectly natural to feel threatened by my immense talent and extreme productivity, I've already decided that I'll let someone else--you know, one of the little people, like yourself--win this contest, so that I'm free to play around with scripting at my leisure and write a game without worrying about pesky little details like plot.

And then Steve got one step closer to victory. Next, Bucky.

I think I've got all my notes and files in order now. Should be some smooth sailing ahead. But we shall see. I do write very slowly...

Why so many variables? How many random pool pages do you have?

They're not all random events, besides the classes there's skills and NPCs that need to be tracked, and some of the little side events should only fire when certain criteria is met.

A knight without armor in a savage land?

Wish I could go home and work on this. It seems to be a thing with me now that I'll think of what I want to do with a story half a day, and then I'm just wiped out by the time I finally sit in front of a computer. :/

Eh...two weeks left? Or close to it? Maybe I could still, like...fake the need for a surgery, and free up that time.
