I'm Rodney.  I've changed my avatar to an astronaut, as you can see, to go with my story-in-the-making "UR: An Astronaut".

 Updates:

April 25th:  O.K.  We just reached our milestone: we have successfully reached a grand total of 8 planets and space locations, leaving us with only 3 more to reach our goal of 11.  To celebrate this, I've added a new developer's blog.

April 9th:  Okay, it's been forever since I updated this thing, so here's a real short update.  Conneth and I are aproaching a milestone with U R: An Astronaut.  Once we reach it, I'll let everybody know.  Until then, here's your hint at what the milestone might be.  Three.  That's right.  The number 3.

UR: An Astronaut Developer's Blog #3:  What's it all About?

UR: An Astronaut has several different themes such as small puzzles and completing optional missions, but the one that is focused on the most is exploration.  As you explore each planet, you will constantly have interesting encounters with the wackiness of Galaxy-X.  Looking underneath a bush or examining ruins can uncover a whole new series of discoveries.  So while the occasional puzzle here and there is fun, what you really should be looking for is the details of each planet.  To highlight this, the scoring system of UR: An Astronaut is based on what types of discoveries you make.  Slightly interesting discoveries are worth five points, more interesting discoveries are worth ten, extremely bazzare discoveries or crucial plot moments are worth fifteen, and even above that is twenty.  Also, you get a huge score boost for completing the main storyline and collecting every single Planet Token (hidden items that your boss tasks you with finding.).

UR: An Astronaut:

UR: An Astronuat is my upcoming game that I'm making with Conneth .  It is the second installment of my U R series.  For those who liked U R: A Magician , you'll probably like this one too.  The story game allows you to explore Galaxy X in your personal space ship, the Seeker.  As you gain points for discoveries, you unlock more planets and space locations to explore.  So far its coming along nicely.

$$Spoiler-highlight to see$$:  One of the first space locations that you unlock is a Worm-Hole.

The lands of Whoska are home of many myths and legends.  One such legend is of the Hero Light.  The legend has it that the hero appears whenever the land is in the great turmoil.  The Hero of Light is tasked with setting things right again, whether it be by destroying a warring faction or defeating a mighty enemy.  The hero is not one personage but rather a title that falls onto a series of fated individuals as the generations pass away.  There can only be one hero alive at a time and to date only one hero has failed at their task to restore peace to the land.  Also, the Hero of Light is always an elf, human or dwarf.

You are the next Hero of Light.

The three governments of Whoska have been seized by the wicked Plague Emperor who seeks to merge Whoska into his Empire of Shadow.  You as the hero are tasked with journeying to each of the three kingdoms of Whoska to gather the three Orbs of Light, ancient artifacts which are necessary to defeat the Plague Emperor.  Standing in your way is a horde of monsters, treacherous Whoskans and the three corrupted rulers of Whoska.

This is my first game.  My next one will be better.  I'm going to try adding items and stuff.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Some stories can fit in more then just one category, so I think that it would be a good idea to allow that.

[Medium] The infamous Itemstate Bug on 7/31/2008 6:03:38 PM

I get the same thing when using this:

%GOLD := %GOLD + 1D10
%EXP := %EXP + 1D10
IF
%QUEST1 = 1
THEN
BEGIN
$ITEMSTATE8 := 1
%QUEST1 := 2
$PAGETEXT := $PAGETEXT + "
You found Horace's Shield!  (Check inventory)  He'll probably reward you if you return it to him!"
END

At the start of a story game, you can always see the most recent comments on the side.  I think that this should be changed to be where It shows the comment given from the highest rater, the most nuetral rater and the lowest rater.  This way, the comments would be more useful to somebody who wants to know whether or not the storygame is worth playing.  They would be able to see both arguements for and against the story, and thus make a better decision, versus if the most recent commenters happened to not like the story very much, but the story had more positive comments earlier.

Until this idea is accepted, somebody should start a thread where everybody can comment on each other's profiles.

On my U R: An Astronaut, I'm using a system of choosing which planets the player gets to visit by turning on a computer and list of planets will pop up.  This might be similar to the system which you used in your Star Wars game.  Is it okay if I use it?  Of course, it won't be exactly the same as yours, just sort of similar.

I've started working on this story again, and the old thread expired.  Also, I still need co-authors to help with spell checking and feedback.  Thanks.
