Don't Get Date Raped!

Don't Get Date Raped is more than another instructive article. It is a gut-wrenching picture of the female experience in the twenty-first century. Without a hint of victim-blaming, slut-shaming, or misogyny, Mizal brings a powerful message to our corner of the Internet.
The poor main character repeatedly has her trust betrayed by the men in her life, who, conditioned by the American patriarchal rape-culture, treat her as if she were property. The references to recent cases and scandals make it only more real for the female readers.

Perhaps my favorite part of this artwork is the powerful scene when date-rape is shown to be not only a white woman's problem, but the problem of those in the Arab-Mexican-American community as well. These topics are portrayed sensitively and boldly.

Perhaps the strongest and most powerful branch of all is when the main character joins the FBI to fight against the patriarchal abusers. She knows that she is strong, she is beautiful, she is a queen, and that she needs no man to protect her and our sisters.
We cannot rest until the number of date-rapes is zero.
Keep smashing the patriarchy, Mizal.

Anyway, nice job with the story and options. It is always nice to read a CYS that actually has options that affect the story. Here the options are clear and after playing a few times, it is clear how the different options do end up giving you different choices. So this is certainly a nice addition to the CYS site.

There are also some nice descriptions of some of the actions you get to take. As a matter of fact, I do often drink my drink with both hands, and like a horse. Except with that path, it was weird, because on the previous page I was actually hoping to get with Greg and after the drugging, well, I did. So I got what I wanted? And do they even make pudding pops any more? But yeah, I have no idea how I got to be an FBI agent, either.

Overall, this is a nice, short, entertaining story about a “socially important” topic or something. Well done!

The most illuminating story in the edutainment section.

Hell, this was even written a few months before the #MeToo movement really got rolling, obviously you are an unsung pioneer in your struggle against toxic masculinity and the patriarchy.

I found this story to be a much better example of dealing with getting date raped than the Date Rape laws and Prevention one. You had lots of scenarios, choices and opportunities for getting dated raped which is really what you want in a story like this.

I also continued to be impressed with how you even had a little fun with the topic while also teaching and stressing the importance of personal responsibility.

You have displayed an incredible amount of ethical writing responsibility by showing the dangers of date rape and have made the world a better place with this story.

I found this petite bit of literature quite humorous. Yes, some could consider it offensive, but the humor was sharp, witty, and well-thought out, albeit a bit redundant with its puns and storyline.

In terms of education, this story didn't accomplish much. All the abhorrent rapists used the same methods to pull off their tricks. Point being, the signs conveying that the protagonist's date was a "sketchy hoe boy" were simply too obvious. The author may have intended to take a direct route with the descriptions and commentaries, so vapid middle schoolers with their screws loose could comprehend it. However, that is its strength as well as its fault. It's simple: "Don't take drugs, alcohol, and free stuff from people, kiddos!" That's overall sound advice I can agree with. On the contrary, this story fails to acknowledge the complexities of trust, dating, connections, and enduring rape itself. Throughout this adventure, not once is there any lasting consequences besides the generic, "This is horrible and I feel awful!" type of dialogue. These emotions discussed earlier on don't play out in the later overarching events. Even though it is up to the player to make a decision, it doesn't make sense for the character's emotions to be silent and ineffectual in terms of the plot. Sure, you have quips here and there but there's no resonating impact, no gravity to the situation at hand, as well as a lack of atmosphere. This story was made to be clean and simple, but establishing a prominent atmosphere and a cycle of emotions would help the reader indulge in the concept a bit more. That said, don't overdo it either. The plot doesn't warrant a D&D level of world complexity. I'd recommend using poignant, bold language, supplemented with unique, but strong metaphors. You want the reader attached to the world, without getting bored of it or feeling overwhelmed by a bulwark of text. That's how you make a diminutive little story that remains memorable even for an underdeveloped gradeschooler. To clarify, I don't necessarily see this becoming an official guidebook to avoiding rape on here, as it does not contain enough detail to earn such a title. In summary, poignant, memorable sentences, bold metaphors, lasting consequences, and realistic emotions will make this work. Maybe even add a tid-bit about what happens later in the character's life depending on the decisions the player made.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate this story. So far, I'd say that its humor is definitely its strongest point. As a standalone story, it lacks basic elements that make a good book. I just hoped for something a little more fleshed out. On a lighter note, I appreciated the "Rape Date" pun. That earned a chuckle out of me! Overall, a 5/8. Not remarkable, not bad for what it is.

Okay so I feel like this is parody. I can only think it is because of how staged everything is. It doesn't seem to take itself seriously. If this is serious, note how there is no bond of trust before anything happens, even less is there any bond of actual trust being made in the dates. Like this clearly is self aware about how extreme it all is. Right?
