This feature was rejected 1/8/2017: Too much effort for the yield. I'd suggest installing Grammarly.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

I always thought this was annoying. Whenever I'm writing, I accidentally miswrite a sentence (I might want to spell the word 'think' but I accidentally spell it as 'thinks' like in this example from my story 'Robbing The Bank' (Yes I fixed it in the final version). Example: What I meant: "You think someone dropped this?" Mistake version: "You thinks someone dropped this?".) I think the editor should be able to this because writing programs such as Microsoft Word and Stylewriter, will check the grammar for you where as the Rich Text Editor doesn't. That is all.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

You mean you want it to auto correct as you write?

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Yeah, basically.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

So you want a spell checker that works without your approval?

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

I don't think that's what he meant. I think what he was trying to say was that while we have a spell checker in the editor, we don't have a grammar checker, and he would like to have a grammar checker feature in the editor.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

no, he wants one that detects not bad grammar ( such as liek , udner , gramamr), but bad phrasing, like detecting if he used the correct verbal tense, whether he used plural forms when he should have used singular, etc.

I doubt it's possible.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Yeah, that's actually what I meant. This guy gets it!

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

I'm not that good with grammar so it would be very helpful, though some people write fragment sentences on purpose and it would be annoying to have that little green squiggly line under all of them.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

So you can have an option to ignore it by right-clicking on it... At least that's what I would do.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Okay, but it would still be annoying to have to go through and ignore all of them.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Why would there be several fragments of sentences on the same page?

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Here, this was on the first page of my story. I believe that it's the only place with fragments on it though.

Though, with popcorn, it doesn’t sprout fur. Or claws. Or paws. Or a tail. Or a muzzle. So I guess in some ways it’s nothing like popping popcorn.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Well an option to disable it on certain pages would be a cool thing.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

But what if you had fragments you didn't notice or want on that page?

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Damn, you're right.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Maybe someone having multiple people getting killed screaming their incomplete dying sentences?

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Well I think it would be annoying going back and forth between 2 sites when writing... But that's just me.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

because ctrl+c | ctrl+[tab] | ctrl+v is such a time consuming process.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

It is, though...

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Wait, what does the ctrl+[tab] thing do?

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

ctrl+[tab] allows you to switch between tabs on a browser without clicking them.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

So, what if there are people that don't know about this site? Or if they do know about it, would want to go back and forth between tabs? I still think that having a grammar check thing on the site will help a lot.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

It also wouldn't be fair to other languages, since other languages use different grammatical structuring; and even different versions of English have different grammatical structure - as well as people, people talk and write without proper grammar all the time. So having a grammar checker is useless and inefficient. If you need a grammar checker, then you probably shouldn't be writing anything that utilizes grammar. Your supposed to already know grammar and spelling before writing storygames, so it seems irrelevant to have a grammar checker. A spell checker is fine, since there are words people don't remember how to spell - but a grammar checker, no.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Well, if we had a grammar checker, you wouldn't have used the wrong 'your'. It's supposed to be 'You're', not 'Your' in that case.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Or using 'there' when you meant 'their'.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

No, he was right. It is 'there', not 'their'.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

What? (I didn't read Ford's post yet if you're referencing it.)

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Oh. I thought you were talking about his post. Sorry. >.<

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Oh. I just read it so... Yeah... And, Ford, I don't see how it's a big deal having a grammar checker (If this feature gets accepted (Which it probably won't) he'll be pissed!).

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Wait, who'll be pissed? Why would he be pissed?

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

1) Ford.

2)He's the only on arguing about it.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Oh. Right, who else would it have been? Ah. Okay, makes sense.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Glad I could help explain it! Well, I'm off to beat the shit out of Dr. Wily again! *Runs off*

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Who's Dr. Wily?Ok.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

If you don't get it, I'm referencing Mega Man... I HATE having to explain references!

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

What's Mega Man?Ok, sorry. >.<

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

No it's okay. And that 'I HATE having to explain references' was a reference to the video game "Left 4 Dead". I just explained 2 references to you... And you know I hate that (That wasn't a reference this time!).

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Okay....... I don't know what to say. To me, this is just gibberish.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

It would be time consuming to have to copy and paste every page onto that and then copy and paste the fixed version back onto the correct pages. I'd rather just fix it right there on the page.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Why dont you get a co-author that is great at his grammar that you trust to check your writing?

-Problem Solved

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

The problem isn't solved until someone gets shot we get a grammar checker!

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

THat wold be unfair to me and other people in other countries whether their language is different or they speak in a different order. That would make everyone on this site to give away they personal info - their country. That is assuming you have a different grammar checker for each dialect of each language. It would be time consuming and even then their would be bugs. Even if this did work out, i would still prefer another person to check it out any way.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

I remember reading something from awhile ago that more than a few people don't use the editor to actually write their storygames as of incidents where something happened and the nice, hearty page they just wrote did not save and got wiped when closing. It has happened to me more than once. People like these tend to use other programs or use sites that do these things anyways for the actually writing of their storygames. For these people, it won't be seen as worth the effort.

It also won't be seen as worth the effort by people tend to know their grammar and/or have other people read over to check anyways.

It won't really help improve grammar in storygames, unless you are really clueless about grammar or you drunkenly write something uncomhensible and then check it later. Grammar mistakes that stay in a work are because of ignorance, not caring enough to fix, or they are there on purpose.

Most people who write things worth reading should have at least some understanding of grammar. Grammar is something one should have a understanding of if one intends to write. If you drive a car, then you should have some idea of the rules of driving a car. It is the same thing really. Responsible writers that are writing seriously should not write without understanding the rules of writing which include grammar, spelling, character development, and other such things.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

What about the people who write their actual storygames in the editor? And also, what if you were to try and change a sentence half way through? You may have forgotten that you wrote one word before the old sentence that wouldn't make sense if you put it before the new sentence. Alright, that's all I'm gonna put for the rest of the night.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

You can still make context based mistakes that could make just as little sense as something you could mess up grammatically. When you write something that is meant to be rated and you want it to be rated highly, you should take care when you write. You should also look over your work for mistakes. This is why having others look over your work is good. They can see mistakes, even ones that any program missed or correctly wrongly and ones that you, the writer, missed. Any program is not going to always correct something properly.

I would just attribute it to poetic license :D

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Bump.

Anyway, I know I'm necroing this thread, but I'm only doing it so that this will hopefully get more attention so it can get accepted or rejected.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

It's not a matter of how much attention it gets.  Alex is the only one who could add something like that.

[Editor] Grammar Check (Not spell check!)

Well yeah, but might as well keep it visible so more people will debate over whether or not it's a good idea, and whenever Alex comes online he'll reject it or accept it based off the new and old response to it.

Or I have it all mixed up and I'm an idiot.
