What Would Be A Good Name?

Well, after thinking about it, I gave up on the story I originally came up with so I figured I'll make another one instead. Well this one is still a sci-fi story, but with a different setting and plot. The game would take place in post-apocalyptic America, and the plot... Well I haven't really come up with the plot yet. The main characters would be a boy, Albert, and his dog, Bandit. I took inspiration from Fallout and the movie A Boy and His Dog, but I can't come up with a proper name. I was originally going to make it, surprise, surprise, A Boy and His Dog, but I don't want to take the name of a great movie (With horrible special effects) when I'm afraid this wouldn't be half as good. What should the name be?

I think it should be called "Ash Winter", since it involves and hints of a nuclear aftermath.

Or " Wanderers of the West" since its about 2 companions wandering together

Telling us the plot would help immensely in helping you choose the title.

Maybe if you name it after any kind of imagery or theme that recurs a lot in-story?

Random suggestions:

Halcyon Days
Finding Eden
Al and Bandit's Grand Looting Spree
Thirteen in Dog Years
Bales

I really liked the title 'Ash Winter' though. If it fits, I vote for that one.

You took that name Halcyon Days for your story for the contest, didn't you?

The story would just take you through four chapters of their lives from infancy, where you setup your character (Like the beginning of Fallout 3 where you do stuff that is basically just a fancy way to setup your character), to childhood, when Albert's parents died, to adolescence, when they actually begin their wandering around the wasteland, and finally adulthood, after the three "prologue" chapters, the main adventure begins. That might as well be the basic plot.

Oh! How about 'Life as we know it'? Wait, no, never mind. That title's already taken. Hmmm....... Um....... How about  'Among the Brave'? No, that's also a title of a book, can't do that...............just a moment, I know I can do it..............

Here. I got it, for real this time. 'Time of a Brave Soul'

I don't really know if that would be a good name for your game since I am really tired at the moment and can't think straight.

Boy and Bandit.

Bandit and the boy.

Well, those are actually pretty good. The boy's name is Albert, so maybe it should be Albert and Bandit, or Bandit and Albert. I don't know, the early stage of development is the time to come up with the title, the characters, and the world.

Alright, well, after thinking, the name will be... Drumroll please... Ash Winter! I figure that eventually, I'll incorporate each name as a sequel (If people would want it). Well, that's all. 11302, out. *Runs off*

Good choice. I will be happy to play it when it is finished (Or otherwise).

Hopefully it'll be better than my other stories. smiley

The interesting thing about A Boy and his Dog is that the main character is practically a Villain Protagonist. Not an axe crazy chaotic evil one, but I think he's a lot more in the darker gray realm than say someone like Mad Max.

It's one of the better post apocalyptic movies and Fallout definitely got some inspiration from it.

Yeah.  He's not heroic in the slightest.  He's just a guy, trying to survive, and this stuff happens to him.

Well considering that this story would have a karma system like Fallout that wouldn't apply with it. The reader could make him heroic, evil, or just a plain old survivor. At least that's what I want the story to be like. After all, I'm not skilled with code and variables. :p

EDIT: Also, Endmaster, do you have an idea for a name?

'Those damn Russians!'

Or, alternatively,

'We never saw those wacky Koreans coming...'

How about you write the story and come up with a name later?

After the End

Alright, if anyone cares, here's the first page of the story. Yes, the beginning is kind of like Fallout 3 with the whole being born and the "You're SPECIAL" book, but I think I did a good job in length and most likely description, but I want to see what all of you think of it. Well here it is:

You are in a dark and comfortable place. You hear voices from outside. You don't know who they are from, but they attempt to comfort you, which you don't find comforting. One day, you hear the scream of a woman. She quickly gets up and a man asks her what is wrong. She says her "Water broke".

They walk to another building and the woman lays on a table. You are pushed out of your home and get blinded by a bright light. You scream "Put me back!" but it comes out as just a cry. The more you ask, the more they smile, as they think of it as a sign of health for some reason. A man in a lab coat with a medical mask walks near you. "It's a boy! We've got a son, Sophia!" You hear him say. You soon learn he is what is called your "father".

"Oh Frank, we did it, our beautiful son... He needs a name, though. Did you think about it?" A woman asks. She is what they call your "mother". "Yes, and I've come up with a name. Albert! It fits him perfectly." Your father says. They bring you into another room full of glass cribs. They put you in a glass crib and put a face mask on you. You are observed by your parents.

"This isn't life, right?" You think to yourself. Why would you be pulled out of your comfortable home and put in an uncomfortable one? You're not going to be like this for the rest of your life, right? You soon find out the answer is thankfully no. Life will get harder on you though, remember that.

AGE 1

You are sitting in the playpen playing with your toys when a woman walks through the door. She walks up to you and gives you a kiss on the cheek. She then sits down at the big desk near your playpen and writes something down. She turns the chair around and watches you play with your toys. You give her a smile and she returns the gesture. You don't know where you are, other than you're in a playpen in a room that would look like a house all in one room.

Your father comes through the door and kisses the woman, who you remember is your mother. Your mother picks you up and carries you out the door. You are on the outside for the first time in your life! Surprisingly, the outside looks like the inside. Odd.

Your mother brings you into another room full of children your age. You crawl around and see children playing with toys and some just drooling. "How disgusting." You think to yourself.

You find a small picture book titled "You're SPECIAL". You grab it and open it. It notifies you of all the things that matter in your life: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck.

You have  points left.

Strength is

Perception is

Endurance is

Charisma is

Agility is

Luck is

I will put variables in the empty boxes. I might need someone who is good with variables to be a co-author.

EDIT: I changed the beginning and made the game have nothing to do with complicated variables and code now. Thanks for reading (If you did)!

The Best and Worst of Times (Describes every story eve.r)

Hellacious Light (Nukes, duh. That could be your title too!)

A Foundation of Sand (Plays on ancient proverbs AND nuclear wastelands!)

Grit (Simple, functional, has something to do with survival, is a mix of potatoes and butter that tastes like shit.)

When the World Dies (Nukes, duh.)

Nuclear Holocaust (Subtlety is my middle name. And also my first and last, just in case you didn't notice.)

Apocalypse (More straightforward than the last.)

Nukes, Duh. (Damn, that's a good title.)

In Spite of it All (In spite of it all, life goes on after we nuked the world to death.)

Armageddon (More biblical than one might think. Technically, Armageddon and the world's consumption by atomic fire are both devastating, horrific wars taking place during the end of life as we know it.)

Harsh Mistress (No doubt nature is one after this.)

Albert and his dog (Hey, it's not stealing!)

Hey, um, for my new story,  I made my title 'Your title.'.

Is that okay, or nah?

Title it whatever you want, but DON'T resurrect month-old threads for it.

I kind of resurrected it. Sorry. :\

I would try for a different title. 'Your title' isn't exactly a good first impression.
