The Disputed Territories of Trovostria is a massive, orderly nation, ruled by Leader with an iron fist, and notable for its frequent executions, keen interest in outer space, and punitive income tax rates. The hard-nosed, cynical population of 1.117 billion Trovostrians are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Healthcare, and Education. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Cryathemus. The average income tax rate is 67.1%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The very strong Trovostrian economy, worth 91.9 trillion Destridims a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Information Technology, Tourism, and Beef-Based Agriculture. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 82,248 Destridims, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.1 times as much as the poorest.

The government has declined to declare any particular religion as its 'official' one, senior citizens are often found slaving away in factories, businesses have become paranoid as waves of lawsuits sweep the nation, and fearful citizens watch their every move as does their government. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Trovostria's national animal is the Wyvern, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Trovostria is ranked 666th in The North Pacific and 18,296th in the world for Most Dedicated Public Healthcare, scoring 56 on the Theresa-Nightingale Rating.

The Grand Nation of The Kylan Republic is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Hugh Topia with a fair hand, and renowned for its museums and concert halls, anti-smoking policies, and keen interest in outer space. The compassionate, democratic, cheerful population of 1.983 billion Kylans are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The medium-sized, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Education, Healthcare, and Welfare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Pacis. The average income tax rate is 32.2%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but stagnant Kylan economy, worth 39.9 trillion Florins a year, is quite specialized and dominated by the Tourism industry, with significant contributions from Book Publishing, Information Technology, and Basket Weaving. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 20,121 Florins, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

There's a shortage of swinging hot spots as land development grinds to a halt, the government is financing an extremely costly war against malaria, high-income earners pay a 100% tax rate, and tabloids coo over Hugh Topia's expected child. Crime is totally unknown. The Kylan Republic's national animal is the Owl, which is also the nation's favorite main course.

The Kylan Republic is ranked 3rd in Cystia and 135,677th in the world for Highest Police Ratios, scoring 0 on the Orwell Orderliness Index.

The Democratic Republic of The Antarctic Territory is a huge, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its anti-smoking policies, rampant corporate plagiarism, and restrictive gun laws. The compassionate, democratic population of 953 million Antarcticans love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, socially-minded morass — juggles the competing demands of Education, Welfare, and Healthcare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Our Utopia. The average income tax rate is 92.4%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The strong The Antarctic Territoryian economy, worth 66.7 trillion Tarcs a year, is driven almost entirely by government activity. The industrial sector, which is extremely specialized, is mostly made up of the Tourism industry, with significant contributions from Book Publishing. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is 69,965 Tarcs, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The mining industry has taken a hit from tighter environmental regulations, highschool principals regularly send armed truancy patrols to drag problem students to school, the Federal Council of The Antarctic Territory has been announced as the new Head of State, and many junior high school teachers minor in midwifery. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Antarctic Territory's national animal is the Emperor Penguin, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

The Antarctic Territory is ranked 126,163rd in the world for Greatest Rich-Poor Divides, scoring 34 on the Inverse Marx-Engels Emancipation Scale.

Say hello to the Republic of Acreonia! And Firemaker's nation... Alcrador...

Nationstates?

You say Alcrador as if it should be a rather ominous concept...

Nationstates?

Alcrador was the name of my nation in Enemy of Nations, and Firemaker stole it from me... Anyway, we don't have a forum or a map of the region?

Nationstates?

I've been drawing a map, but as you know I don't draw very well.

Nationstates?

Oh... boy. Can't you get someone on this site who knows how to draw to make the map?

Nationstates?

Would it really matter in anything else but a war? I've just been doing it for the satirical/political cartooning opportunities it presents.

Nationstates?

Exactly... I want a war... I'm a warmonger...

Nationstates?

Alright, war then, let's see...

Rom is a pacifist, Cynical isn't a forum gamer, Madbrad's country has a sucky army, Masvodska and Trovostria have nukes and would probably end up making the continent of Cystia uninhabitable, Tim is massively overpowered, Fireplay is dormant, and I get the feeling that you and firemaker are the same person would be the only ones fighting each other with marginally equal forces.

I mean, look at this:  http://www.nationstates.net/page=compare/nations=masvodska+the_kylan_republic+the_tim_wasteland+flametopia+trovostria+the_antarctic_territory+empire_of_alcrador+acreonia?censusid=46

That looks a lot like it won't end well for most of us.

Nationstates?

Then booo! It's getting boring this way with nothing to do...

Nationstates?

It would've been a lot more fun with the Cystia regional newspaper, where you could war with NPC states sort of and do some RPing, but we'll need more WA members to vote Kylan into WA Delegacy so he can check where it is.

Nationstates?

And let me guess... that isn't that easy to do... right?

Nationstates?

It's easy, you just have to follow some of their rules. (You can't legalize things like child prostitution, for example. It all handles little details and doesn't really affect your country that much.)

Just click on "World Assembly" then click the button that says "apply to join". Someone might buzz you in, sometimes you get rejected for random reasons. Just apply again, because it's a supermassive organization and whoever checked you last time probably isn't the same person who checked you this time.

Nationstates?

I'm in!... What do I do now?

Nationstates?

Endorse the republic of Kylan.

Nationstates?

How do I do that?

Nationstates?

Ask Rom, I'm not in the WA.

Nationstates?

I, for one wonder how I can have negative defence forces. Like, am I constantly shooting myself in the face while inviting foreign invaders over for a cup of tea, or...?

Nationstates?

Wait... where do you see your defence forces?

Nationstates?

The link Sent posted a few posts above.

Nationstates?

Oh... I thought it was military wise, you know the number of soldiers and such...

Nationstates?

Not really, it just measures the raw militiary power you have.

Nationstates?

Well... I'm the fourth strongest nation in the region... yay?

EDIT: Can I wage war with the Antarctic Territory?

Nationstates?

Sure, just ask Madbrad to roleplay with you. (There isn't actual war in NS other than a very complex form of trolling, but we'd need more people, and more unity, in order to do that.)

Nationstates?

This will be just a regional war for a bit of ice in Antarctica... I guess I'll have more penguins then!

Nationstates?

And an army of screaming capybaras.

Nationstates?

Your country would be wiped out if you wage war against me...

Nationstates?

There isn't actually any war in this game,  lol.

Nationstates?

I know... But if you look at the defense link thing that SenPen posted above, you'd see who's better...

Nationstates?

I never said I'd go to war with you, smart one. Can you read?

Nationstates?

Then why add the screaming capybaras part?

Nationstates?

And some wolf anthropomorphs firing at enemies from the other side!

Nationstates?

I said I want a war only with the Antarcticic Territory not with you two!

Nationstates?

xD

Good, I'm spending time trying to develop my empire.

Nationstates?

My nation is a nation formed of an archipelago of islands, so you'll need a fleet first.

Nationstates?

I already have a fleet, and long-ranged nukes, and an air force, and flying mech warriors, and a space fleet, and I'm building a moon cannon. A moon cannon. I mean, I have a normal navy too, but there are so many much more fun ways to attack an archipelago...

I mean, hypothetically speaking... If I were going to attack an archipelago... Which I wouldn't...

Nationstates?

Yes,because I have left my nation defenseless from such attacks... I have a larger fleet since I am a Island Nation, I have a anti-nuke/missile system which may or may not be a disintegration beam. The mechs are dead if they approach the islands, my Tengu will make sure of that. Well, now I have a use for my albeit probably smaller, but better equipped space fleet... The moon cannon is going to be a problem since I'll have to invade the moon to take it down...

Nationstates?

And you will have 10 foot tall supersoldiers, more mech warriors, (It appears at our rate we'll have pumped out out more gundam-level mechs in a year The Empire in a far, far away galaxy has pumped out droids and stormtroopers during its entire movie-recorded conflict. It would've been a similar thing with the supersoldiers if they didn't take so goddamn long to grow up...) moon turrets, and cooperative Elder Gods waiting for you when you do attempt to invade the moon. And of course, since your nation has been around for a little more than a day, you'll have had all the time in the world to somehow better equip your space fleet and navy better than those belonging to a warmonger nation that's rejected the Geneva convention in every way and has been experimenting for even better ways to kill, destroy, and defend for more than a month...

Are you sure you want to keep Cold-Warring here?

Nationstates?

My nation has been around for quite some time, just check it out, I stopped playing almost a year ago with this nation and I revived it now when everyone got an interest in it. So yes, I have had time to develop mechs, space fleets and plan out moon invasions, so don't lecture me about all that! Geneva? What's that?

Nationstates?

Oh, right, so you've had about a year of dormancy for all your spies, information, technology, and supposedly "better equipped" fleets to become outdated while new militiary science progressed all around you?... And as for the Geneva convention, that was some policy invented by some of the pussies in the UN WA to prevent whatever "Humanitarian tragedies" are. Wait, wasn't that the organization I got you to join... Aw man, I'm sorry, that must be embarrassing.

Nationstates?

Eh, I'll probably retract my participation in the WA since you can do that. And yes, I was dormant, my people/nation/general weren't. I made sure before I left that they would maintain the fleet at the current level of cutting edge technology.

?

?

Nationstates?

And how exactly did they achieve cutting edge technology without you to approve and fund their scientific projects?

It looks an awful lot to me like it just stagnated with you...

http://www.nationstates.net/page=compare/nations=masvodska+acreonia?censusid=70

Nationstates?

All military projects had a set amount of funds awarded to them. That's how I ordered them... Hmm, guess it explains all of these useless weapons I found since Ieft... Hey, I won't say I'm as powerful as your nation, but, I'm not as far as you think.

Hey, you're the 5th richest country here. Not bad.

Nationstates?

I have no idea what I'm doing.

Nationstates?

Basically it goes like this:

Be an authoritative asswipe = You get a big economy and big militiary, but all the liberfags hate you.

Be a generous leader = You get the moral high ground, but money is shit.

Be a batshit insane leader = You get a whole mishmosh of effects that only really become badass if you've played for a long time.

Nationstates?

Thanks. I'll keep that shit in mind.

Nationstates?

Be an authoritative asswipe = You get a big economy and big militiary, but all the liberfags hate you.

Be a generous leader = You get the moral high ground, but money is shit.

This isn't true, though, I'm mostly a Libertarian nation, and I have the best economy out of everyone else. Military sure, but that's obvious.

Nationstates?

Yeah, but you've been playing for a while. For the most part, generous decisions drain your economy out like a preschooler drains a juice box early on in the game.

Nationstates?

Yeah, it seems like you need to be around for a while to carve out a well rounded state.

I super annoyed at the youth crime thing. I've yet to get an issue that would drop it, without it dropping civil rights (which I need to increase).

Nationstates?

You forgot to mention just about most of us have power-suit infantry.

Nationstates?

Traditional warfare is dumb. If Nagnarok's enemies didn't accept our terms for peace, we'd unleash biological weapons on them (top 10% for most scientifically advanced, after all). Ethics only matter for people in our borders (and the country [Cystia], of course).

Nationstates?

...power suit supersoldiers are conventional?

Nationstates?

If they're infantry, yeah. Doesn't matter how advanced your troops are; you're still just having an army attack an army.

Nationstates?

So, ehrr... how does one actually advance? Time?

Nationstates?

You check in every day and answer more issues.

Nationstates?

Of course. Good luck putting anthrax bombs in a paranoid police state consisting of gated communities ruled by a totalitarian dictator. Or using them against an army of robots for that matter.

Nationstates?

"Madbrad's country has a sucky army"

Whilst I do appreciate you giving us a casus belli, we'd appreciate you don't insult our great nation. We leave the 'great armies' to barbaric nations.

Nationstates?

My country is most certainly not barbaric! Well not entirely...

Nationstates?

Brah. You declared war on me the second you could.

Nationstates?

That means only that I'm power-hungry, not barbaric.

Nationstates?

Don't act like you weren't going to just rape and murder everyone.

Nationstates?

I wasn't, I was just going to kill the current leader of you country and put a leader that won't get his nation turned into garbage...
t

Nationstates?

Why do you keep saying that. Haha! I don't know why you keep saying it's going to turn into "garbage". What are you basing this off?

Nationstates?

I read the overview of your nation... Apparently, your citizens live in quite bad conditions...

Nationstates?

I've been around for a day. It's going to take time to sort out my wealth inequality. I actually might not even want to.

Nationstates?

And that's why I wanted to wage war over your nation... My nations income is quite close to equal.

Nationstates?

No need to brag about it.

Nationstates?

Are you sure you don't want to wage war? I promise I won't destroy you too fast!?

Nationstates?

I've only been around for a day. Get off my dick already.

Nationstates?

Ok, ok, calm down!? Your nation will be great as well someday!

Nationstates?

Hey, his economy is about 5 or so points higher than yours. His GDP needs some work, but that's because he's new. I mean, if you're going to measure his greatness by his richness you should be worried. After all, he built it in a day.

Nationstates?

That's because he chose to tear down forests to mine the uranium deposits... I chose the third option a got only a bit of it.

Nationstates?

Hey, I only got a large militiary because I always choose pro-militiary choices, no matter the cost.

Nationstates?

How long does it take a legislation to be put into effect?

Nationstates?

So I either make a powerful nation, but one a bit crazy, or a normal, but weaker one... hmmm

?

Nationstates?

You get really strong in the long game either way. All that radicality does at this stage is make you stronger earlier.

Nationstates?

Then I'll become a bit more radical while I still can!

Nationstates?

Are you sure you'd want to just rip your people's happiness away like that? I mean, if you're going to be radical, that's fine, but once your people have had a taste of non-oppression, well, that's just how rebellions start. My lower-class didn't always live comfortable lives, y'know. They were once legitimately peasants, and Masvodska was pretty much an Eastern-Europian parody of China.

Nationstates?

Hmm, but I want a larger military... How do I get that without pissing off the people?

Nationstates?

From my experience, you don't, really.

Nationstates?

Fucking hell... Guess I'll have to slowly become more radical so that my people have time to accommodate to the changes.

Nationstates?

If it's in the early game, you should probably just change quickly if you're going to change, since the early game is where all the benefits for radicality are. Or you could keep going the way you're going and wait for the benefits to roll in more slowly.

Nationstates?

I guess I'll have to settle in with the slow but steady growth I guess... Plus my nation already has almost half a billion people... Eh, can't wait for the ?crazy? wars and negotiations for peace we'll have.

Nationstates?

Don't worry, since you're relatively authoritarian with a disproportionate militiary, you'll probably get an issue somewhere along the line that basically comes down to:

The issue:

Do you want a bigger militiary?

The debate:

"Yes"

"Yes"

"Yes"

"I don't want a militiary, at all."

Nationstates?

I would pick the first three options if possible... Until then... I wait.

Nationstates?

"Great nation?" Madbrad, the peasants in Masvodska have enough money (Room and board is provided for them by government-coerced corporations, so they don't have to pay for that, and the rich corportions themselves get hefty taxes) to have town-wide parties and eat decent meals every day. Yours have barely enough to support themselves at lower-middle-class for a year, assuming your wealth is properly distributed and tarcs/gils are worth the same as a US dollar.

Nationstates?

My nation is great as well! I have a quite strong economy and income equality isn't very far away!

Nationstates?

Is income equality really needed when your landlord pays all your property taxes and you earn a little over  $19,000 a year?

Corporate police state is the way to go, man.

Nationstates?

My average is about,$75.000 a year, not $19.000...

Nationstates?

My average is $123,795 per person. I was saying that my poorest ten percent earn $19,000, with which they can have fairly nice lives considering the fact that prices are government-regulated. Your poorest earn more money than that, but that's because you're working for income equality, where my poor don't really need it, because they have a lot of their taxes taken care of for them and could pretty much afford the slaves we trade over the internet if they really wanted to.

Nationstates?

Well, my richest earn almost double than my poorest, so my richest earn about 130-140,000 a year... And slave trade... really? That's a tad barbaric isn't it?

Nationstates?

Hey, if there's proof beyond a reasonable doubt that you commited a really serious crime, we give you three options:

1. You are now government property, and you'll have to do public service of the worth equivalent to your bail (Which usually, but not always, adds up to a life sentence)

2. You are now government property until someone else buys you. Likewise, you have to perform labor equivalent to your bail.

3. You get executed. None of this "Spend a while on death row until the bureaucracy can buzz you in" either. Once you sign your name on the execution paper, you have 8 hours or less to live before the hanging. Or, if you prefer something more intimate, you can have yourself shot in the head by the nearest official. Hell, if you committed Espionage, Treason, or Terrorism, you might have the honor of King Pofski killing you himself.

Nationstates?

Wow... That's a surprisingly efficient way of dealing with crime... Alas, my nation doesn't operate that way.

?You have a King? Aren't you a dictatorship?

?

Nationstates?

The leader prefers to be called 'King' because it sounds better than 'Dictator' and at the basest level it's a very unified totalitarian fuedal system. Just like how they called the guy who used to rule Egypt a President.

The Community of F4Z3CL4N is a fledgling, safe nation, notable for its compulsory military service, absence of drug laws, and complete absence of social welfare. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 5 million F4Z3CL4Nians are proud of their wide-ranging civil freedoms, and those who aren't tend to be dragged off the streets by men in dark suits and hustled into cars with tinted windows.

The large, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Spirituality, Law & Order, and Defense. The average income tax rate is 38.2%.

The F4Z3CL4Nian economy, worth 213 billion EXPS a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, broadly diversified black market in Uranium Mining, Book Publishing, Basket Weaving, and Arms Manufacturing. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 42,728 EXPS, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 4.5 times as much as the poorest.

Crime, especially youth-related, is almost non-existent, thanks to a well-funded police force. F4Z3CL4N's national animal is the n0 sc0p1n Qu1ck5c0p3r, which can occasionally be seen sifting through garbage in the nation's cities.

What do you need help with?

Nationstates?

Legitimately anything. o_e

Building a military? I don't know shit. Building...anything? Nope, no clue.

I don't need help on specific topics, though. Any tips would suffice.

You build up your nation by choosing choices in the issues you get, depending on what you choose, it'll shape what sort of government your nation has, you military, and your tax and income (though these are recent additions; and since I just got back into, not even I know how exactly they're determined), and your economy. These matter a lot more in the early game.

Late-game, you'll be given a lot more freedom, since a choice won't be so drastic as to change your entire government.

So...little choices so far?

XD For me, it's fine, since I don't plan on rekting people soon.

Nationstates?

Drastic choices early game, since you're pretty much a blank slate. It's the opposite of exponential growth.

Nationstates?

Holy Hell this game is more deep than I thought. Still thoroughly engrossed.

....what? All I'm seeing is a leaderboard of random nations...

WHO ARE GOOD AT THE GAME

But seriously, what is the problem?

EDIT: Also, If I sign in and view this, it says:

Error: You cannot challenge yourself. At least, in this game. In life, you can. And you should. Challenging yourself is how you find out what you're truly capable of. And by challenging, by stretching yourself a little further, even if you don't attain your original goal, you become a slightly more capable than you were before. That's how greatness is achieved: one small stretch at a time. So do challenge yourself. But not in this game. Because that doesn't work.

It has come to my attention that I am awesome.

Noted.

Okay, Nationstates officially sucks now.  I'm dismissing about 60% of the issues I have, and whatever choices I do make are hell-bent on decreasing intelligence.

Like seriously?  I can't make permaculture a thing if I want to build through my forests?  I HAVE to sell of that land as private property and watch people clog up my nation with their privately owned coal plants?

I can't use would-be-aborted children as child soldiers?

And the best options to prevent future computer viruses attacking are :

  • Make computers licensed as though they were weapons.
  • Bring a glitchy AI built by the gov't's worst-performing employees to adaptively defend against malware.
  • Ban computers altogether.

Seriously?  Am I not allowed to take the North Korean route and make my own nation's OS?

Yeah, and flogging people who openly desire anarchism (namely by burning flags, among everything else) makes me psychotic.

The old title system is way too freaking archaic for this overhauled issue system.

What is this?

An OK nation-building game that just took a nosedive in my approval.  Alright, I'm buying Tropico.

Nationstates?

Hmmm......There could be a forum game something like Nation Wars or something. The players can make a nation and buy units with starting coins and then fight other player's nations for conquest.....and the units would each effect the dice somehow, and the GM would govern what happens in battle, which units die, and who wins.

Nationstates?

Don't go any more modern than Tropico 3. Anything higher is just a demo surrounded by a $200+ sea of Downloadable Content.

Nationstates?

Fuck, and I just got the special Steam edition of Tropico 5...

Nationstates?

Wait 10 years, then they'll make an edition so special that it'll offer more than one of the 10,000 DLCs (each containing ONE building, ONE additional outfit, and ONE extra scenario) for under $5.00. Tropico 5 is new, and they might not go in this direction yet, but... Expect to be disappointed. Fuck Tropico.

Nationstates?

Meh.

Nationstates?

At least you actually have an economy now!

Nationstates?

Yeah, but I still get the same issues, or I get lose-lose issues. Not a great combo. Had to set it to 48 hours/issue so that my nation won't get so fucked.

Also, being delegate doesn't really appeal to me anymore. Can't really do anything. Besides polls.

Nationstates?

Leave and return so I can take on delegate and remove the scum still floating inside.  >:D

AGAIN

Nationstates?

You know you can dismiss issues as well, right? Especially in the lose-lose scenario cases. Also, if you don't want to be delegate anymore, I'll graciously accept the title you stole from me.

Nationstates?

K.

I don't like dismissing issues. They just come back anyway.

Nationstates?

Each time I try to do something good, my nation somehow drops in economy and intelligence if it doesn't have to do with the military... what the actual hell? Do I only have a choice between a dumb, rich and militaristic nation or a smart poor pacifist nation, both have one bad thing in them(two, depending on what kind of person you are).

EDIT: I also have child soldiers... yay?

Nationstates?

You used to be able to build very diverse nations, but now you can only gravitate between two archetypes. I mean, I get that your decisions would impact all kinds of things, but it wouldn't necessarily be in one direction or the other.

The Federation of Glaroc is a fledgling, safe nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, compulsory military service, and absence of drug laws. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic, devout population of 5 million Glarocians are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

The relatively small government juggles the competing demands of Spirituality, Welfare, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 16.9%.

The Glarocian economy, worth 290 billion Leonians a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Basket Weaving industry, with major contributions from Arms Manufacturing, Furniture Restoration, and Automobile Manufacturing. Average income is 58,005 Leonians, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 4.2 times as much as the poorest.

Voting is compulsory, citizens are enjoying a recent large cut in taxes, euthanasia is illegal, and politicians are often found scavenging bins at night to supplement their income. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Glaroc's national animal is the dragonbreathers, which can occasionally be seen dodging aircraft in the nation's cities.

Glaroc is ranked 113,101st in the world and 4,827th in The East Pacific for Most Corrupt Governments, with 0.82 Kickbacks Per Hour.
