Hey, everyone!

We have a special bonus issue for you all for the month of May!

A great, big thank you to all the members of the CYS Monthly Gazette, especially Fresh for editing the issue alongside me!

Of course, a thank you as well to those who were interviewed for this month. We're always eager to hear from the members here at CYS.

If you want the slideshow of this article, here's a link.

Getting these posted is always such a good feeling. Thanks for all you do to keep us afloat, Milton!

Hey mom look, I made the cover!

Thanks for the feature, but I feel like I should clarify a small thing: Despite me using it pretty much everywhere at this point my profile picture is not a self portrait, but a rendition of one of my characters for a WiP game. I started using it for consistency's sake, but it probably shouldn't be treated as me. Regardless congrats on getting another issue out, they're always a blast to read.

Don't worry, we know it's probably not actually what you look like. Most people don't have metallic wing-things (excuse my lack of proper terminology) growing out of their heads, for one. However, on CYS, your profile picture is effectively "you"; at least, it is to all of us. My "portrait" of Mystic is also not a portrait of her real self, as the only thing I know about how she'd look is that she's Asian, and the drawing is decidedly not that. It's a drawing based on her profile pictures over the years, since that's how "Mystic Warrior" looks, even though the real person behind the user most likely looks nothing like that.

We've labelled every profile picture used as a "self-portrait", "artist rendition" or even a "photograph" of the user, fully aware that in the real world you all look much different. The Gazette exists purely in CYStia, though, and in CYStia your profile picture depicts you, much like how your username is used as your name— as is mine, and Milton's, and anyone else who appears in the paper's.

That said, if you would rather the tag say "Rendition of CavusRex's character for a current WIP" or some similar thing, that can be arranged (when Milton is online again). :)

Thanks for reading and glad you're enjoying these issues! They're a pleasure to put together— more so when we know people read them. Also, thank you for the feedback, and I hope my explanation makes sense! Let us know if you'd like anything changed or have any further questions. :D

Nah I don't think it's that big of a deal to change it, and it's mostly on me since I've been using the name of a somewhat specific character of mine while using the profile picture of another, almost opposite in look character, and my special kind of autism compels me to point it out. I've been meaning to at some point commission/make a proper "self-portrait", but I've been too lazy there's been other stuff in my mind.

Gotcha. Not an issue.

If you'd like to commission a profile picture, I make drawings (I've got a little album of them linked on my profile). I don't think I'm to the point where I should ask for money, though, so I'd be happy to do it for free instead— if I'm given a basic idea to work with, of course. At the very least, I can certainly try!

But just a heads-up in case you do want to take that offer, I'd probably be getting around to it sometime around mid-June, as I'm about to start a trip.

I might take you up on that at some point, thanks.

We're getting spoiled this month! (Oh, Fresh wrote the cooking article. Well, at least someone else was used as the expert.) Congrats to the staff for getting out another episode!

These are always fun, never have any idea of what's going to appear in them with how secretive you all are. I should've guessed this was what was going on with fresh asking for recipes back in April though.

She really came a long way from ramen with cheese slices on top, let's hope this ups the baseline culinary knowledge around this site.

Flux's interview was a great read too, the interviews are consistently my favorite parts of these.

"ThatIndianGuy: Where Are They Now?"

Pure gold. Laughed my ass off. Unrelated: As I typed this post, I kept accidentally writing "ThatIndianGay." Got to be some sort of Freudian thing going on. I thought I was past calling people gay as an insult. Perhaps not.

I'm really glad you liked that piece, Flux!

The ThatIndianGuy saga was too ridiculous to not include, since this issue focused on all the interesting aspects of this year's contest.

The entire saga is probably my favorite series of articles from the Gazette. This is the stuff I'd still be willing to pick up an actual newspaper for.

Plot twist: ThatIndianGuy was an inside job. A plant, to enhance the Gazette. Don't be a sheeple. Ask questions....

I'm still wondering whose alt he was.

He was definitely an alt, and that's not far off one of the theories lol.

Unfortunately whoever it was dropped him right about the time everyone started going "this is definitely an alt".

Also, thanks for doing the interview. Both you and Mystic provided some awesome advice and relatable struggles that will definetly help out future writers.

In a way, these interviews are almost like the reflection posts that people used to writer after a contest. So it's cool that you guys brought that tradition back.

Amazing issue as always. I've learnt a lot from this one, from memory science to cooking. I have to try some of these recipes and tips sometime. And after reading about Flux's process, I want to offer a second congratulations to him, writing a two-hundred page outline is insane dedication.

Also, I don't know how I didn't clock that TIG appeared on April's Fools day. That does make it much more likely he was an inside job. It's a pity that whoever it was didn't write a storygame, like how some performers deliberately start off terribly and then go on to showcase their talent, because that would have had so much trolling potential.

Posting this message here on the forums so I don't run out of space on my walls which are already almost covered with messily scrawled words.

Well if I'm being fair, the pages were mostly bullet points and dialogue, so probably a lot less than that in "dense" pages. ;)
