When did the new forums come in?
That was a looooong time ago, way before the forums were redone (remember when it just used to be a flat thing single-forum thing?).
But anyway, that doesn't impact the count. The count is the actual number of messages. It does impact the PostId (like, look in the URL). The post I'm replying to (your post) is PostID 27872, which is obviously a lot higher than the number of posts.
i remember that forum set up. and for a long time i hated this style and prefered the old style more lol. but ive gotten used to this one over the years.
it depends on whos post you click on to respond to. this is discussed in another thread somewhere but basically, since i clicked on your post to respond to my response will be to the right and slightly smaller area than yours.
the main reason, and possibly the only reason is simply this... you wouldnt know who was replying to who. i mean, you ever been in a chat room this is what you see:
3:Hi
4:Shut Up!
3: hey thats not nice4: i wasnt talking to you
2: were you talking to me?
3:i was talking to anyone
4:Yes
3:yes what?
and so forth. its confusing.
im gonna take the easy way out and say "i didnt make the forums" lol. i cant vouch for why they chose this way. sorry, i dont know.
