A place to sit back, hang out, and make monkey noises about anything you'd like.

I know that almost all of us know this event, and sooner or later it's gonna pretty unavoidable.

Well, someone's gotta do it:

Have you guys heard of the protests at Egypt?  And Libya?  Things are going really bad over there, all over a piece of crap movie.  What I really want to question is how did the TV channel actually managed to host such an abominable film to a country KNOWING that it was going to cause a huge backlash?

If you guys don't like talking about that...

I just saw the Endeavor do its fly-by.  It's pretty, meh.

Religious fanatics again. Frankly I do not care about some butt-hurt zealots.

Freedom of Speech. They might think the US produced it, but the citizens have freedom here, and we're not gonna stifle their creative freedom. If someone creates it, and another person of similar views hosts it on their show (was it actually ona show? I haven't heard that, but I didn't exactly study this), there's no reason for the US as a whole to apologize.

I think it was just on youtube.

Making the movie was stupid, but illegal and stupid are two different things. He should apologize, but the government had nothing to do with it and therefore shouldn't.

That being said, there was a similar incident in 2005 with some cartoons of Muhammed in a Danish newspaper (you can see them here: http://pierrelegrand.net/2010/05/19/stand-together-for-free-speech-or-die-aloneshackled-and-gaggedno-thank-you.htm ) and that took forever to blow over.

There was a Muslim riot in Sydney last week because of this film. Police officers and citizens were injured, there was a four-year-old holding up a "behead all those who insult the prophet" sign (there were calls afterwards for that child to be removed from its parents but, predictably, nothing happened) and very nearly riots in Melbourne too (thankfully they didn't end up happening).

Journalists were going around interviewing some of the rioters and found that many of them hadn't even seen the video (some even refused to watch it because it was too offensive, which is kinda circular logic (then again, they're religious so that doesn't surprise me)). Honestly I think some of them just wanted an excuse to riot and feel powerful. I mean, how does a low-budget (and terrible) film made in another country even constitute a peaceful protest, let alone a riot?

Edit: Obviously some of the Muslims there were protesting peacefully, I don't mean to generalise.

Plus, they didn't need to go kill people for it.

I like it how when the Taliban says they're peaceful, they encourage riots against other countries.

I dont like how the US Government has been saying the riots are just because of the video and not because of any hatred towards us. The reasons October stated and  because these people hate America are the true reasons.

"They said we have a violent religion? How dare they! We should go riot!"

Personally it pisses me off how Obama(and the government in general) has been handling it. Imagine if WE went into a foreign embassy(which is considered sovereign ground of the country it represents) and murdered the people inside? To most countries that is an act of war, not to mention a form of invasion considering it is sovereign ground. If Americans did that we would be crusified for it, but I feel like it is getting swept under the rug<--That is all IMO

I don't care how offended they were, murdering people isn't going to fix shit. I mean if they didn't like how they were portrayed then why did they act exactly how that movie depicted them? It makes no sense to me whatsoever. When someone offends me through a generalization of my religious beliefs, I just take it as criticism and use it to better myself. Sometimes there might be truth in it and so i work on that if necessary, whereas sometimes its just generalized bullshit that doesn't apply to me. I don't go around butchering innocent people.

The whole thing makes me sick and depressed. I just really don't get why they felt riots and murder would make them look anything other than what they were angry about being portrayed as?

Were putting to much money into the Middle East to only get these types of results, at this rate we should just pull out and stop wasting money on people who hate us.

No kidding. The war made sense when we were retaliating against a terrorist attack, but now its just pointless. I was really hoping Obama would keep his promise and end the war, but instead he sent more troops in and only just recently brought some of them home. -_- Then again, I guess I shouldn't be surprised by a politician not keeping promises.

The elephant in the room.

I'm not sure I saw that, but now I want too. Do you happen to have a link with some info on it? :)

Besides the stuff halfway around the world...

Did anybody see the space shuttle Endeavor scotch-taped to the other airplane?  (They didn't use scotch-tape.)

The whole thing (I personally think) Is somewhat of a two sided affair on one side we are stopping terrorism, which is impossible due to the fact its an ideal rather than a country, or group. We are, however limiting it severely the other side is based of off political realism, we are in that area of the world in some cases for oil. As well as trying to limit the power of middle eastern governments and stop other countries from getting the oil as well.

Here you go http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab_Spring, it pretty much got hijacked by the Islamist extremist and now things are still crap, from what I have heard.

Yes I saw that, actually flew right over my state but sadly I didn't get the opportunity to go see it.

It's kinda convenient that I can go visit the shuttle now 20 minutes away.  I did see it fly by the place where I was at, but it was just sticking onto the carrier.  meh...

If someone wants to make a film about something they should be allowed to do it. If you got offended, too bad that's life. I never heard any one pissed off about the book of Mormon movie. So, if some Moslems get insulted over a freaking movie, o,ay, but they killed a person. That's not about a Damm movie.

The elephant in the room.

my thoughts exactly

The elephant in the room.

Agreed, once they inflict their emotions against another group/person then it isn't about the original problem anymore.

The elephant in the room.

There never was a original problem. A person made a anti-islam film. I do not agree with what he did, but if he wanted to, and had funding, let him roll.

Like i stated, The Book Of Mormon was a movie comically portraying Mormons, and the Mormons took it in stride.

There are many times when someone does something insulting, you shouldn't be going insane after an ass insults you. If we considered the original riots okay, then I should be able to shout and throw eggs at the houses of those who insulted me. You can't get hurt after every attack on your group.

I mean, seriously.  Do these people think that they have the right to take other people's life over a crappy film?  They need to learn that there are always going to be some nobody that will always find a way to hit where it hurts most.  Even then, the producer who made that film did it pretty badly.  I still don't understand why is the US as a whole is agreeing with the protesters that is bad, when it could also be the PERFECT time to teach how free the freedom of speech really is.  I hate ranting, but reading your comments want me to rant too.

Please excuse me for my anger, because if this gets any more heated, then the discussion will just be another attack on Muslims.

The elephant in the room.

I hope we don't get there. I know plenty of Moslems who are kind and don't want to destroy the west and such, they are just the silent majority. I don't think that most Moslems are radicals, but that the loud ones tend to be. (Meaning the ones that speak out tend to be radical, whie the normal Moslem just tends to stay quiet.)

I have no issue with the religion whatsoever. It's the idea of any group of people thinking that slaughtering innocent people over a film that most people wouldn't give the time of day to pay attention to, much less take seriously, that I have a problem with.

I'm Wiccan and when I watched the movie Baby Mama and it showed the couple with the Wiccan surrogate portrayed as a freaky goth who 'ate her own placenta' I was absolutely mortified. Sure I was offended and disgusted, but I have to admit there are some weirdos in my religion just like every other(though I don't think I've ever come across anything suggesting a Wiccan eat that yuck). Some people claiming Wicca think that they can conjure up elves to clean up their house, I don't get why the heck they believe it and I laugh at it and say they're crazy too. People will always have negative views on a variety of religions because there is always nut job radicals in them.

The key is to not go ape shit and butcher innocent people because you got your panties in a wad -_-
