lol, although vampire hunter takes on a different meaning as the series progresses.. but anyway I'm thinking that a fanfic would be perfect since her early works were solving crimes and I'd have an excuse to take a break from my massive super-secret story that I've been writing since I joined CYS. 

My wife reads those, though she said the early stories in the series dealt more with the detective work and such, then the series descended into page after page of supernatural orgies.

I think she said they got slightly back on track for a moment, but they still have a lot of gratuitous sex scenes.

Fun Fact: Laurell K. Hamilton hates fan fiction about her work. I think she attempts to have such things deleted when she discovers them. She's sort of like Ann Rice in that regard.

I wasn't a fan of Anne Rice's vampire works, but the Claiming of Sleeping Beauty trilogy was quite delightful. 

I forgot about how much of a jerk LKH is to her fans... I think I'll work on an original story instead.  It also didn't help that once I started writing I realized I don't really know anything about the criminal justice system, crime scenes, or firearms all of which would be helpful to write a good crime solving story.

I don't even read the books, but from what I can tell Anita Blake is basically an author insert for Laurell. (And apparently a full blown canon sue now mixed with author wish fulfillment) The comic book images of the character pretty much confirm it.

You should snag the first five or six from your lady.  They're actually very good. I've noticed the similarities myself, but hey, if you can make a living writing your sexual fantasies, why not?

On a side note, I have to get more of the graphic novels.  The only thing better than a book with male strippers is a graphic novel with male strippers!

Are 'Asian tests' where they test you to determine if you're Asian enough?  Do you have to be able to make Miso Soup from scratch, demonstrate martial arts abilities, and match your skin up to one of those color wheels they use when painting a house?  These tests sound unconstitutional but also sort of fun!

I've had several friends read this series and give up on it, They all said something along these lines:

1. Starts off as a pretty good vamp/detective story, continues this way for a couple of books.

2. Turns into 50% vamp/detective and 50% descriptive porn novel for 1 book

3. turns into 95% chick walking from one large orgie to bestiality type sex back to a different orgie and 5% detective story

4. Gets even worse then they gave up.

I find it kind of sad that an author who showed promise in her chosen field based her main character so clearly around fulfilling her own wishes and desires then just dissolves into writing strange porn. Kinda shows that she has some strange issues... (See above examples by Endmaster and just about anywhere online and its obvious she writes to pretend its her)

The MC was totally based on her, and the supporting characters are based on her family, so of course she ended up letting her personal life write the stories.

Richard was based on her husband, so when they started having marital problems, he suddenly turned into a psychotic jerk.  Then, she got together with the president of her fan club, so Nathaniel is now of course her perfect soulmate.

Is it sweet and romantic, or narcissistic in the extreme to marry the president of your own fan club?
