Apparently I'm late to the party of hearing the announcement a couple of weeks ago that they would no longer update security on Internet Explorer. Does that mean it'll be easier for people to access your information if you use the browser?

If you're using Internet Explorer you deserve what you get.

To lazy to type in the URL for MSN on Chrome.

Yeah I should get around to that, fast edit xD

Editing a post in two minutes isn't really fast.

I'm more of an IceDragon guy, myself.

Internet Explorer no longer Supported

what's the difference between icedragon and dragon?

Internet Explorer no longer Supported

Ice dragons breathe ice; regular dragons breathe fire.

Internet Explorer no longer Supported

Same difference between Firefox and Chrome.

I'm more of an IceDragon person as well :P I never really understood the difference until now though.

Also, don't get Firefox, it's become bloated and terrible. If you want Firefox without the recent terrible additions, use a fork of it (most popular one is Pale Moon).

...define "terrible"? I habitually use Firefox because it isn't IE, and it seems to generally just work. Currently running Windows 10 on a reasonably powerful laptop. Is Firefox vs. Pale Moon the kind of thing I'd have to be a *nix geek to appreciate, or will it affect a plebe like myself? 9_9

Edit: I'd also be curious to know what search engine you recommend. Was a bit startled when Firefox defaulted to Yahoo, of all things. I am generally one to welcome our Officially Not Evil Overlords, but I'm willing to deverb "Google"... if it's really warranted.

Use Safari...  That browser is kinda...goodish...maybe...yeah never mind.... There is aways Internet browser... maybe?

I really do like Google. Too bad that they'll probably become the closest thing to Skynet.

It's a fork of Firefox, and so it's got the same basic interface, so you shouldn't have too much trouble with it. Be warned, though, some Firefox extensions are incompatable with Pale Moon.

For search engines, I use startpage, and I do recommend it (as I did once already in this thread).

@Cynical how would you compare duckduckgo to startpage?

Internet Explorer no longer Supported

Well, I've never used duckduckgo, so I don't think I can make an apt comparison to them. I do know that startpage uses Google as a sort of proxy, but when it does it, it removes all identifying information, and sends the results back, so supposed to be a little slower, but I haven't noticed anything too drastic.

Thanks! I suspect what you'd call 'bloat,' I call 'useful new features.' But I do appreciate your taking the time to answer the question.

You use MSN's search engine? Why...?

Internet Explorer no longer Supported

It's default on Chrome; he can't figure out how to change it.

Internet Explorer no longer Supported

It's not hard, click the button at the top right, click settings, scroll down to "Search," and it has a list of different search engines, and you can add ones yourself if you care about privacy at all (Startpage is pretty great). Also, look into Chromium. It's what Chrome is based on. It's open source, and is is basically better in every way.

Internet Explorer no longer Supported

Why would you use MSN? chrome://settings/ select on startup. open a specific page or set of pages. choose the url. click ok then you're done

I use Waterfox currently but Chrome is equally as good, and indefinitely better than Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer no longer Supported

If you actually paid attention, you would realize this only applies to the older versions of internet explorer. The newest one (11) is still being supported.

Internet Explorer no longer Supported

Why would you even use Internet Explorer anyway?

For that matter, why use MSN?

Internet Explorer? You're still using that antique?

Internet Explorer no longer Supported

Assuming they weren't going to support the most recent versions, the answer to your question is no, at least not immediately. What it would mean is that if an exploit was found, it would not be fixed.

I'm an Opera fan my self.

Internet Explorer no longer Supported

I like Opera, but the mini version is too bland. I guess we all have our browsers.

Internet Explorer no longer Supported

Well guess which browser has the same speed as Chrome that can also take on AdBlock Plus AND still run Flash and Unity?

I swear, unless you're on some ancient machine that needs hyper-optimized programming to run reasonably well, Chrome doesn't have nearly the same range of accessibility as Mozilla has.

Agreed.
