Hi. I am new here. I think. I may have joined for a day like 5 or 10 years ago; I'm not sure. I keep a log of all my passwords and stuff but this site isn't listed so maybe I was just on a similar site.

Anyway, I am a fan of an Artificial-Intelligence sort of CYOA program (I won't mention the exact name as 1) I don't want to sound like I'm advertising it, and 2) it's currently in a nose-dive) which was apparently trained by reading lots of CYOA stories from this very site.

I used to enjoy CYOA stories when I was a kid, (I think the last one I read was by a Steve Johnson or Jackson) so it occurred to me that I might enjoy what is actually here. And perhaps create something of my own. Though I don't know what I have to offer that probably isn't here already.

Well, time will tell.

He should have asked me for my advice on how to make it better first before horsefucking the whole thing, but he always did have a habit of just going around doing things without asking. Oh well.

Well, it's not terrible now, just really really random.

It's like dealing with an amnesiac dungeon master:

And that's when the kobold dentist attacks you.

I tried the princess scenario once and the game started me off surrounded by tribesmen who all started taking their clothes off.

I turned into a T Rex in self defense and murdered everyone in the castle, so that worked out alright. But it's extremely random, yes. Although sometimes it has this element of surreal dream logic that's interesting in itself, I get annoyed by things like the way nobody seems to want to stay dead. (Even the player, after people say hello by slicing your throat...)

The only actually cool game I got out of it was very early on, I joined a cult and we ended up building glass temples on Mars, fighting off an alien invasion after it destroyed the Earth, and then stealing their ships to spread the Brotherhood to the stars.

I know the way the AI worked was changed sometime after that because it got significantly dumber and less able to remember anything, and then they started adding a bunch of bells and whistles to try and disguise that.

Really the guy should've just doubled down on making it the degenerate porn sim the internet seemed to want, monetized the hell out of that, then gone back to the original vision of an Eternal fanfic generator.

Take this with a grain of salt, as I'm neither Mormon nor a computer programmer nor in any way involved with the Waltons, but according to the Internet (Reddit, et al) his hands were forced by OpenAI, and that it is the OpenAI programmers who ordered Latitude to get rid of all the NSFW stuff.

I'm not clear how that ended up lobotomizing the AI, but apparently it did. I'm waiting for NovelAI and HoloAI and a few others that are in beta-testing right now.

I think the GPT based AI was just getting really expensive and intensive to run with tons of people constantly logged into it, so the solution was to give it amnesia and have it process less things. But someone like @BradinDvorak who's actually worked with it with his own bot would probably know more.

I can think of a couple reasons why this would be.

Censorship. Especially now that OpenAI is monetizing GPT-3, they want to make sure it's not producing content that reflects badly on them. They also want to prevent people who don't have access to their APIs from using GPT-3-powered apps to gain indirect access. Ultimately, they trained GPTs on a big chunk of raw internet, so unchecked, yeah, they're going to get some less-than-desireable content. Whatever method they use to weed that stuff out, it's another layer that can end up diluting the output.

Limits. GPT-2 works within a limit of 1,024 "tokens" (sort of equates to words) maximum for both input and output. (And it's possible the servers are limiting that further to save on costs.) The more it has to remember, the less it can output and vice versa, and the longer a session goes on, the less consistent it becomes. Addition of stats could be overloading it as well; if the network has been retrained to keep more stats in mind, that's more for it work with, thus making things harder to make sense of.

Generation settings. It can be a balancing act to get the settings just right. For instance, increasing "temperature" increases randomness, which makes the output less repetetive, but it also increases the chance of producing nonsense. If responses have been getting weirder, maybe the temperature has been increased.

Split the mildly interesting convo from....whatever the hell happened on the newbie board yesterday.

So AI Dungeon is dying a slow drama filled death.

Happily Nick and his small company are the ones getting crucified for all this though. Nick attempted to harness CYStian power for his own experiment and only now does he realize the terrible price of tampering with the Eldritch Gods.

Still, it was fun having a fanfic generator while it lasted.

I'm more interested in that Mormon news site you found. It seems to have decided that the theme of all its strangely literate and coherent comments will be to crucify the company, and I'm seeing all other comments get systematically deleted.

And I mean ALL other comments, every seven minutes or so whether they agree with the other commentors or just post something completely innocuous. Pretty sure it's being done by a bot, sweeping every few minutes to remove everything but prewritten fake opinions.

Makes me wonder how common this is in the industry.

The filter seems to be the main issue, it's this awful hack job that will lock people out of their accounts (that they're paying $30 for) for using the word 'infantry' for example. And in addition to sex stuff it seems most kinds of violence are banned...good luck playing out your epic fantasy and sci fi stories that way.

Except it's not REALLY banned. According to the reddit you can just type f*ck and the AI will still know what you mean. Although you can also be suspended if the AI itself springs something on you unrelated to the story you were playing out. Just from skimming the complaints it all seems like a very inconsistent clusterfuck....which makes sense looking into the origin of it, it's just a thing his brother made for a completely different purpose (a failed business that got sued into oblivion) that he decided to staple onto the AI as a muzzle, while changing nothing else.

The only fun that might still be possible is in making throwaway emails and seeing just how twisted you can make the material you can force Mormons to read, because any time the filter gets triggered, you're locked out, and Nick and his brother will look at your game and judge you.

I really don't understand why they don't just roll back to the original version of the game that wasn't so aggressive about pushing sexual content on players that didn't want it. At some point Nick either added that kind of content in, or (what I suspect) the AI started looking at what some (many) players were doing and learning from that to incorporate it into everyone else's games. Because I only ever looked at it sporadically, but at a certain point in the update cycle it started going from zero to explicit fetish porn even literally right off one of the starting prompts. The princess one was notoriously bad about this.

Or a combination of the two, because in a sample game I played a couple months ago it was really clear RWBY fanfic had gone into the generator, and it sure as hell didn't come from here.

Brad, who obviously knows his stuff with GPT-2 from his own projects, has shed some light on things.

I know this is a pretty unique take on things, but I don't think Nick had much of an idea of what he was doing.

It's actually crazy how big this really got. For a while it was common for streamers to just stream themselves playing out adventures (generally because of how hilariously bad the AI was). Was fun while it lasted, and will make for a fitting entry in the history of CYS.

I never understood why it got so popular to begin with. I played a few hours, laughed at how stupid and random the AI was, then got bored with it.

Like most fanbases, a lot of the fans were/are retarded.

Basically they were all circle jerking (literally) over this thing only several months ago saying it was the greatest thing ever, then after the Mormon brothers realized they were sinning against Joseph Smith; lobotomized the AI and re-enacting 1984, everyone got pissy because suddenly it started banning people over dumb shit and all their fetish porn and pedo fantasies were being spied on.

Granted getting banned for dumb reasons and privacy issue are things to be legit mad about, but lol at attempts by folks claiming people weren't using the program for degenerate purposes and it was "All the AI's fault!"

Now they're all circle jerking over this new thing called NovelAI and going on about how THIS will be the greatest thing ever.

Who knows? It may very well succeed or crash and burn like AI Dungeon, but people will at least be happy knowing they have an AI which to make their degenerate fantasies in peace and only share them fellow degenerate friends. Lol.

Given the outrage at all the censorship? Porn and degeneracy, probably.

Seeing how excited and full of degeneracy everyone became over a fancy mad libs generator (that was half broken anyway) just confirms my theory that anything like a Star Trek holodeck would be the literal end of humanity.

In fact let this be a general announcement encouraging anyone with an issue about us to post. After all, bitching about us in what you believe to be a "safe space" might feel good, but it ultimately it doesn't really do much does it? Especially since it doesn't always work out like you expect.

So I'm trying out NovelAI at the $15 tier. It's supposed to be the up and coming AI Dungeon replacement made by people with a little more idea what they're doing on the business/PR side of things.

While I never messed with whatever compatible features AIDS kept adding later to disguise how it got stupider and more random with every update, NovelAI has a lot of options for defining setting details, author style, genre and tags and so on that seem impressively powerful. I'm hoping I'll get time to play with it more seriously soon and see what it's capable of.

....it also started writing me explicit incest porn, where my only input was starting a new game and then hitting enter a few times on a blank prompt. Somehow, Endmaster had taken over this other AI too.

So I've heard that AI Dungeon on top of all the random autobans and everything else now has a mysterious bug that doesn't let users save or edit their scenarios. It's been a few days, and no communication from the team at Latitude about it because there never is.

People are paying $30 a month for this kind of service, lol.

The AI assisted storytelling/roleplaying, whatever you want to call it is now a proven concept that's here to stay though, so that's just one more thing Endmaster has done for the world. Many more will be popping up and avoiding the mistakes of Nick and co. Time will tell if this leads to the downfall of humanity or not.

NovelAI is supposed to actually allow player's to finetune it on any author's text at the more premium tier, so AI Dungeon style Eternal fanfics will still be possible, thank God.

There was never any real issue with the AI itself, all the current problems that are leading to people unsubscribing in droves were created by meddling after the fact to add some really overbearing and inconsistent censorship. People have been testing it in fairly amusing ways to show off how broken it is....it's really easy to trigger the autosuspension with completely innocent scenarios that just happen to combine certain words (or letter combinations in the case of firing weapons at the infantry), and then just be left without any service or communication for days.

Also breaches of privacy, major security leaks they didn't bother informing anyone of, etc. Just goes to show that just because someone can program a thing doesn't mean they have any business running a business. Seems like Nick was in completely over his head the second he realized he had to start charging.

Although pay to play seems inevitable for all of these considering the costs, but I figure it's just as well that devs aren't having to divide their attention with support for a lobotomized free version. Not when AI Dungeon's initial popularity means there's now an audience desperate for a new fix right from the start. People will go to any length not to have to do their own writing, but of course we already know that here.

In case anyone cares about the AI Dungeon faggotry, they're currently trying to repair their rep by getting someone half way competent at being a spindoctor by the name of Ryan Meatshield. He's generally a boring suit that does a lot of double talking, but everyone's lapping it up and sucking his dick in the discord (Even some that were hardcore Latitude haters, lol), so he's more successful than Nick and Alan in that regard. Anyway, it's all pretty dull there now.

Apparently the Reddit is a different story. The company is still getting death threats by fucktards on there who think this is important enough to do so.

In more important CYS related news, Mizal, Malk and myself destroyed some fucktard in the discord back in August going by the name Rukanth. He got so flustered he left some whiny faggot comment on one of Malk's stories (Not even making an account so he's scum anyway) and stopped posting in the discord.

Seriously, that's been the ONLY thing of importance going on there. The rest of it is just faggots sucking Lat dick, or faggots going on about how Novel AI is better than AI Dungeon because you can write as much degeneracy as you want.

So basically a bunch of faggots all around. (Yes, with a few exceptions)

Ridiculous obviously. Steve was of consenting age and if anything it's Malk that was the victim.
