I was low-key hoping for China to be less clinical about their ethnic cleansing, but I guess they decided to be all Virginia about it by going the clinical abortion route (er, infanticide).  You know, the whole "let's stimulate labor prematurely and then fail to provide medical care because babies are less than perfect" spiel (I know a lot of you pricks here are pro-choice / don't care and that's fair enough, since high cost of living is the common factor for the lack of baby-making in any country).

But I mean, Nazis didn't really have the tools to make the ethnic cleansing of Jews as euphemized as China's work on their noodle-making, Mecca-worshipping Uighurs, but it's not like the re-education camps and what the shit are any worse...right?  I dunno, I just feel like it's a very post-USSR Chechnya thing to do.  (Less on the re-education part, more on the whole "razing your entire village and then making you put trees in the desert" part.)

Reeducation of religious extremists is widely accepted in China. Swift's source is kind of a joke. There are many legitimate reasons to criticize the CCP and what they are doing in Xinjiang, but using an anti-abortion propaganda website as your source is not a good starting point.

So I heard the ocean is on fire or something, that seems pretty metal. Are there any downsides?

Swift's thread of rants.

Off the top of my head:

Massive CO2 release, with much of the water going straight back down to the ocean.  The CO2 that does saturate the water lowers pH levels, endangering nearby wildlife in the short term and making life shittier for coral reefs globally within 5 years.

But because water isn't exactly as oxygen-rich as air, lots of soot byproduct that will sink to the bottom of the ocean floor, probably blanketing the sand or floating around to get dispersed all over the globe over a 2 year time period or less.  Or you know, it gets stuck on our shores as we do an oil cleanup like we always do.

Overall result: probably one step closer to Venus, but it takes many steps to become Venus.

Economically: small price shock to crude and derivatives (fertilizer, gasoline, plastics), neglible for long term as long as OPEC does their job.  Gasoline uptrend we have currently exists for entirely different reasons.

I don't really care because there isn't much hypocrisy to be had, and I'm far too jaded at this point to believe that oil companies won't do anything but go down kicking and screaming when we replace oil's utility one industry at a time.

I stopped caring much about oil spills and pipeline ruptures as these world changing events once I realized there were natural fissures in the ocean that had been spilling out literal tons of oil every day for hundreds of thousands of years.

Oh no, the neo-Nazis have returned!

You know, as they have always done eveyr few decades since the end of the Third Reich.  In a way, though, it seems to me as the German language (or rather, the fucking obtuse and hamfisted manner in which labels are used and treated) lacks the finesse to have subtlety, and what should have been phrased as "neo-Nazis are directly created from feelings of excessive nationalism and chauvanism" gets shat out as "neo-Nazis are directly created from patriotism".

With such a broad, commonplace term as "patriotism", though, wouldn't that encompass a whole fuckload of normally harmless actions?

Now, I understand that flying flags in Germany is exceedingly rare, and that flag-flying has been connoted as extremely right-wing in Germany, but if a variety of Germany's allies dare to fly their respective flags at a variety of other events that aren't for sport, wouldn't it be inevitable that some German citizens raise objections like: "why can Spain, France, the UK, the USA, etc. fly their flags but we can't?" ?

In light of those two rhetorical questions, I think it makes more sense that a younger generation, disconnected from the big reality of Auschwitz and its sister concentration camps, would object to fear-mongering and showmanship moreso than anything.  A heavier pressure by Germany's government would only exacerbate the situation by polarizing German's youths to be extremely right or left, both of which are factions that thrive on conflict and escalation.

Paired with the very European way of underreporting crime for the sake of correctness, it's easy to see that a statistically significant number of the populace would lash out when their needs are not being met by a government that has otherwise served them so well in the healthcare and transportation sectors.

And if it hasn't already made itself evident, it should be known that other European countries may share this sentiment and resulting phenomenon.

To which I have to pose a question to the many who try to compare the USA to Europe: why should the US, then, aspire to become more like Europe culturally?

That year, Trump triggered an angry backlash from Swedes when, at a rally in Florida, he appeared to link the rise in crime in the country to higher immigration. That link is now more widely accepted.

Sweden, at the top of most global welfare rankings, has traditionally sought to be a safe haven by accepting waves of immigrants since World War II. The country, which grew accustomed to relatively low levels of crime, has witnessed a surge of bombings and riots in immigrant neighborhoods in the past decade.

Sweden’s police chief last August lamented an “extremely serious” escalation of violence related to gang crime, urging society to “put its foot down.” He spoke after two people were murdered in Stockholm in a week and several police officers were injured during a riot in the southern city of Malmo. A 12-year-old girl had also been killed “in a criminal showdown” earlier that month.

The country reported about 10 times more deadly shootings than the U.K. in the past year, adjusted for population size.

Damn, Sweden ain't what it used to be.

Do they make any effort to integrate or educate or like, screen people they let into the country and start handing checks to, or would that be considered too racist?

And it's interesting that most of the violence comes from Moroccans specifically. I guess Spain was right to send all those illegal immigrants that were swimming there back.

I mean looks like it's Algerians too but we already had one of those guys on the site and knew they were irredeemable fucktards. Puddlebunni used to simp for Morocco all the time though.

Normalisation’ is a term that we have come to associate with domestic violence: the victim begins to think of abuse as a part of everyday life. Explosions have become so normalised in Sweden that SVT, Sweden’s equivalent of the BBC, did not even mention the three explosions in the country’s capital on its national news programme that evening. Instead, the main domestic story was the purported censorship of ‘big female bodies’ on Instagram. Apparently, we mustn’t be referred to as ‘women’ any more, but ‘female bodies’, lest anyone’s gender be assumed. The explosions were left to the local news.

As much as I like internet flame wars, I will try to explain this as politely as possible, Europe as a whole is still pretty shitty in various ways, especially eastern Europe. There has been many spikes of populism, Fascism and reactionary policies even in pretty progressive countries like the Netherlands and Germany.

However, since I'm not that familiar to say much about Germany, I would say that western Europe is a better place to live in as not only a person from a minority group, but also as an average person.

I know that you want to talk about more cultural attitudes around here, but I also want to flex on more economic shit. With the EU placing stricter regulations on consumer products like make-up or food, most things you can buy in Europe are generally safer than in America. Also, when you are poor in Europe, there are many safety nets that make it that you won't die and starve whenever the next economic recession strikes. While many Americans struggle to pay their medical bills, in the Netherlands, I know that almost everyone is at least covered in some way. Visiting the GP is free here. Also, going to college still costs money in western Europe, but you at least don't have a crippling debt at the end of it. The Netherlands tried to introduce the loaning system for a few years, but now many political parties already have huge regrets about it, haha...

Okay, now I want to talk about the cultural questions. I hope that I can bring my own take to this all. To be honest, flag flying is something that is usually not done in Europe except in government buildings and perhaps soccer and other sports event. I have a feeling that in Europe the overwhelming patriotism has died down a bit. (i think it's because Europe as a whole has experienced the main brunt of two world wars, both fueled by an intense nationalism.)

I personally have no problem with patriotism. What I frankly do find disgusting is that patriotism has often been used as an excuse to bring other groups of people down or to claim that other people do not belong here. When many European "patriots" talk about "their pride as a blabla citizen", they mostly talk about esoteric stuff like preserving their "culture", their renaissance paintings or how they conquered half of the world or something like that. In the Netherlands, people who call themselves patriotic do that same shit too and it's pretty cringy when you hear them talk this lingo. Most of the time they brag and larp about the golden age, saying how cool it is that the Dutch have their trading company and their colonies.

I know, I know, it's sometimes pretty petty to shit on these small things, but the main reason why I don't like the concept of unconditionally supporting and loving your country is that this attitude will deter good-faith criticism and desires to make a country a better place to live in. It was the same with the implementation of gay marriage. Not a long time ago, people were yelling: "This country is already so much better than saudi-arabia that will stone the gays to death. Why do they now want marriage? Isn't this enough?" You know, I think it takes more guts to love your country while still to acknowledging that your country is shit and that many stuff still has to be done. I still love Dutch fried stuff, the disgusting licorice and the people who I grew up with. I wouldn't want to ever live in any other place than here. I just sometimes want to whip the Netherlands into shape at the same time. I think that many people think the same way here.

Oh yeah, you actually mention the Syrian refugee crises and the immigrant stuff right? Dude, as someone who has grown up during that era and followed the news for a while, most tabloid magazines were not shy to describe these refugees as "hordes" or "plagues". During youtube's golden era, you had plenty of  very popular "influencers" like Paul joseph Watson, Lauren Southern and Sargon of Akkad whose whole job it was to talk about muslim rape gangs. No one here is being silenced. In the Netherlands we even have a party called the PVV which was solely created to criticize muslims and immigrants. They once got 30 percent of the vote. No one here is being silenced. There was even an infamous study posted by the university of Amsterdam that details how many Muslims in every Muslim country want the implementation of Sharia. With a little bit of effort, you can get a hold of that article.

If you want to see how bad it was, I guarantee that in the period of 2014/2015, there was always at least one article describing how much of a problem they were. I have taken the time to read this article and I have the feeling that you had taken the first few sentences and went ahead with it. Many of the problems these European countries had, were not due to lax immigration policies, but due to stricter regulations that resulted in family separation and unemployment. If you went ahead and read more of this article, the rise of rape amongst the new flood of immigrants was due to the demographics of these immigrants and not for the fact that they were Syrians or immigrant; they were mainly young men who to be honest are likely to rape more than the average person. Massive wealth inequality and poverty, something attributed to these immigrants are also the main driving factors of petty crime like stealing and burglary.

Okay, before anyone will say that you just can kick all these immigrants back to Syria or whatever country they came from, I will say this. These people are desperate, so desperate in fact that they were willing to leave their friends and family behind to travel in tiny rubber boats to some country they have no connection with. To be pragmatic and cold-hearted about it; what will happen if all of Europe refuses to house them? These desperate little shits will of course not politely listen, no, they will just reach any border country like Greece or Turkey and sit there causing huge problems for them. That was also exactly what happened during this refugee crises. Many western countries were hesitant to take many immigrants in fearing public backlash, so South Europe who was really not equipped to handle this much people was tasked with bearing the full brunt of this refugee crises. We sadly do not have a large sea between us and the refugees like other countries.

There's also this notion that it is due to these vaguely "woke" and "progressive" stuff that the government sometimes does, that makes people extremists. I hate to say it, but it is actually due to massive income inequality, wage stagnation and general economic instability. To be honest, most of these liberal parties in Europe shill for multi-national companies and big lobbyists. They placate the average citizen with vaguely nice words about equality and acceptance while fueling unethical business practices and simultaneously making no significant changes to the current system. They are basically the equivalent of the moderate wings of democrats of the united states.

Just like the Weimar republic, when the next enormous economic crises comes and when people are poor, overworked and desperate, they will want true social changes. The only two ways that a person can travel on is like you said: the extreme right or the extreme left.

It seemed like I have been shitting on Europe for whole paragraphs right now, but to give an answer to your question why the US should aspire to become more like Europe culturally, it is that we are at least not as far down the rabbit hole as the US is in now. Western Europe sucks, but we sure suck less than the US.

I could give you many examples how the ways that US handles some certain aspects of their own history, sex education and other cultural stuff are just handled way worse than I have ever seen in the Netherlands and other western European countries. For example "the lost cause myth" is still taught in Southern states, abstinence only sex-ed is still a thing, gay conversion camps still exist, petty things like critical race theory being taught in some universities and allowing people in the bathroom of their own choice are treated as the threat of the whole western civilization. To add some extra fuel to these hot oil topics, Europe at least doesn't have to deal with massive BLM protests to the same degree as America has. Come on, how long has it been already, a year? You even called in the national guard. To think that so many American citizens are so unhappy about the cultural zeitgeist of America that they were more willing to protest for free on the street than continue to work to meet their enormously high rent quota. It also still pains me that dipshits like Tucker Carlson, a news anchor who lies more than the average politician, is one of the most watched people in your nation. You can look this up in politifact: https://www.politifact.com/personalities/tucker-carlson/

Still, I have to admit that I also like many aspects of American culture. I sure as hell find American music more appealing than any form of Dutch pop music garbage like the toppers or Gordon AKA Nederpop. Fuck, I like that you basically invented rock and jazz, my go-to music genres. Your writers are also pretty awesome. Come on, it's no fair that you had lovecraft, the founder of cosmic horror and a huge chunk of all fantasy novels ever published and their shitty fanfiction. American movies are also better produced and look prettier than most Dutch movies. Have you ever listened to Dutch sound work? For years it sounded like crap. Hell, even the fact that I'm writing this all in English and not in Spanish or German says a lot about American superiority right?

Last point, maybe I'm just a soy munching sappy libtard and the European version of a dipshit extremist leftist communist member of antifa right now, but I truly fail to see why making a place a bit more welcoming and livable for certain marginalized groups would harm anyone. The more people who are happy, the better right? (By the way, most policies which benefit marginalized groups also indirectly and directly benefit the rest of the population. Giving unemployed people money? These people can continue to buy stuff, which stimulates the economy.)

I am Spanish with family in Belgium, and I am tired of Dutch snob and superiority complex. I have been there several times, and the only they talk about is how superior they are and how great their milk and bread is. Spoilers are shit.

They write as you can see enormous wall text assuming that like they are so almighty, everyone will be lost when they read their shit that nobody gives a shit about.

As Galician with families with farms and farm cooperatives, they have been guilty of many lost jobs since Spanish entry into the EU. The "humane and healthy" cow and farms forced by Dutch orders have been an economic loss to many European countries as they only do laws tailored to Dutch terrain and farm system.

So a piece of advice if a Dutch told you to eat something DON'T THEY FOOD IS SO SEED THEY NEED WEED TO LIVE.

Maybe I have bias here, but a huge portion of nazi ideology was based on Jew hate. Today in Germany the vast majority of violent targeted attacks on Jews are done by Islamic extremists which is overlooked by the current government to not make their immigration policy look bad. An increase in German hyper nationalism is not a good thing, but calling it an unprecedented rise in neo-nazism is just alarmist and distracting from other issues Germany is facing.

why should the US, then, aspire to become more like Europe culturally?

Europe has so many different cultures, I think when people say this what they are really saying is they want to move towards more of a welfare state, or as ignorant American liberals call it "socialism". America has it's own culture, and America is not nearly as racist as many European countries, we just have more interaction between different ethnic groups with different values which will inevitably create conflict. I'm not advocating for the US to become a ethnostate by any means, but our multiculturalism comes with unique challenges that are not seen in most other countries.

It's always funny to me when they persist in thinking of themselves as real countries.

The entire country of Sweden for instance has about the population of two large cities, spread out in an area the size of California. You'd think that would be easy for any semi organized collection of adults to get a handle on and things would be pretty idyllic there in their little commune, but welp. Things always seem to get a little crazy when the children have to stop playing house and actually deal with things, and then a whole lot of people end up dying somehow, whoops!

Here. I wanted to post a meaningless rant too, but I'm lazy so I just copy/pasta something from IS. (Eliminated the old Obama/McCain references)

What’s the difference anyway? Europe is already in the process of becoming a multicultural shithole and is currently spreading its ass cheeks wide for the coming Towelhead invasion. No lube involved, just a complete “Fuck-me-in-the-ass” White Boy prison camp. It’ll be the Ottoman Empire reborn, but worse. Your women will be defiled in every orifice and your children will be indoctrinated to become good little worshippers of Allah.

And The Amerikwans are nothing more than a Zionist puppet state that’s ALREADY a multicultural shithole and will soon be heading into total cultural destruction where tranny orgies are going to be norm in the streets and sucking dick is taught in grade school. Estrogen injections, castrations and new black boyfriends to fuck you in the ass for all you new femboys.

When the shit hits the fan you’ll be begging the invading Chinese government for protection. You won’t care if you have to give hand jobs to 500 slant soldiers a day because you’ll just be happy that you’re going to get fed and have roof over your fucking head. Anything to prevent the wetbacks and spearchuckers from raping and eating you.

I’m telling you faggots right now, white people everywhere need to start waking the fuck up because the end is coming soon and NONE of you are prepared for it.

Had to trim out the first paragraph so it would stop giving me porn. Then I told it 'Patriotism' was the theme. And holy moly did it deliver in spades.

(...I’m telling you faggots right now, white people everywhere need to start waking the fuck up because the end is coming soon and NONE of you are prepared for it....)

You can either die with honor fighting against the invaders or become a submissive piece of human garbage as they rape your women and sodomize your children while laughing at how pathetic you are.

Fuck this bullshit. I want my country back! And I don’t mean some fucked-up third world shit hole like Mexico. This is MY COUNTRY AND I WILL FIGHT FOR IT TO THE DEATH!!!

And no matter what happens next, one thing is certain: there will never ever again be an American who has not been thoroughly indoctrinated by the Jews. The only question left is whether we fight them first or let them finish us off. But if we do fight, then we must fight smart and hard. We cannot afford any mistakes on our part. Because when the time comes, the enemy will take full advantage of every weakness he sees in us. That means we must always keep ourselves well-supplied with weapons, ammunition, food, water, fuel, medicine—and above all else, with intelligence about our enemies.

There is no doubt that America's greatest threat today is internal. Our most dangerous enemies are within. They are found among those who would use their power and influence to destroy the very foundation upon which our Republic was built—the principles of individual liberty and equality under law. There are traitors within our own ranks; men whose loyalties lie elsewhere. Their number grows daily. It is imperative that we root these out before they bring down the whole structure of freedom and justice...

So here it is. My final message to you. If you're reading this, chances are good you've already seen me on TV. Now, I'm sure many of you think I'm crazy. Maybe even paranoid. After all, I'm a radical conservative who hates everything liberals stand for. Why am I talking to you? Well, it's simple really. When I see someone doing something wrong, I try to stop him. Sometimes I succeed. More often than not, however, I fail.

Now, I realize that you probably won't believe anything I say. Not after listening to the lies of politicians and seeing the media distort facts and twist truth. So, I'll just come straight out and admit it. I hate blacks. Hate Muslims. HATE WOMEN. Especially feminists and lesbians. I hate gays, too. In fact, I hate everyone but rich white guys.

That's why I decided to write this letter. To tell you what I know and warn you so you'll be ready when the time comes.

I think this is what the kids call based. That or what the kids call boomer rage. (The kids are confusing.)

Given the current state of affairs, I have an obligation to keep the ball rolling.

As I recall, the US military has a protocol to destroy any and all equipment that it could not guarantee to be placed in the hands of reliable allies, which is why the current Afghanistan military always seems under equipped in regions where the US is not present.

And, given the speed at which the Army and Marines are pulled out of Afghanistan, it seems to me that at least a haphazard destruction of supplies would be more beneficial than no destruction at all.

An aside: if the US boasts such a large amount of munitions and equipment with which to exert military control, how does the Taliban maintain their own supply chain to keep up their guerilla fight?  IED's alone only serve to choke supply lines and waste resources, but you can't exactly win open fights with improvised weapons alone.

Well, you'd get the friend of your enemy to pay your bills...I guess?

I dunno, it seems odd to me that the American military didn't denounce its oil-bearing ally for what would amount to a betrayal (and we could have easily swapped over to any of the other gulf nations if they simply promised us that they wouldn't sponsor wahabbism / salafism / what have you).

Oh well, score another one for China's Belt and Road...

Considering the CIA funded the Taliban, then Clinton intervened to keep Bin Ladin from being taken out, and now we gave them Afghanistan back and let them have our military bases to sweeten the deal as well as introducing them to new friends in China, Russia, and Iran, it seems that whole war after 9/11 was just a little bump in the road in our decades of friendly relations.

There might be a chance conditions MAYBE won't revert to being as awful for women, but of course there's nothing holding them to that. So many young adults there now grew up during the US occupation, so they're used to being able to go to school and get jobs and have friends of the opposite sex, and not have to wear garbage bags over their entire bodies every time they went outside, and now that may be in the process of all being taken away again.

Sort of interesting to me that they see it as preferable to let people's imaginations run wild than to just confirm what they already know. Or is there stuff that's even more damning in there?

Off the top of my head, it could include the possibility that the US provides support in the Yemeni conflict (but really, any North-African or Central Asian conflict) beyond that of supplying equipment.  Conducting military operations in developing nations that haven't even thought about opposing the US seems to be a pastime of ours as of late.

Or you know, it could be the possibility that we're the ones shipping in all the Thai femboys into the Saudi harems.

You climate change whiners better shut up now.

Instead of bitching and moaning that climate change was the cause of a slew of floods, maybe fucking realize that the hamfisted mass production of dams had been amplifying river flows due to improper output control and maintenance. Nevermind the shitty "sponge cities" that lacked the necessary water table infrastructure, it's the fact that China is more into showmanship of its infrastructure in the same way USA likes to flex its military.

It's why their subways and highways have been getting flooded as of late.

Power generation is no easy feat, sure, but rapid development isn't possible if it's done wrong.  It's more expensive to retrofit old infrastructure / technology than to tear it down and start over, which wouldn't have happened in the first place if widespread corruption didn't allow for shoddy / small-scale dams to be put all over the damn place.  If dams were of the correct capacity and had good backup measures for flood and dry periods (such as additional canals) maybe your rivers wouldn't fucking dry up or overflow so often.

Or maybe, stop building fucking dams since they erode into narrow channels with less throughput and sediment. Fucking retards.

Not really a rant since this is Swift's thread, but news stuff looks like it might as well go here for now.

Officially the Taliban has retaken Afghanistan completely.

And I guess we put some troops back to secure the Big Mac and McNugget evacuation.

Hi guys, welcome to the any% Afghanistan conquered, world-record speedrun.  Today, we'll be filling in the power vacuum left by the US military in under three months using the Toyota and scavenger strategy, which involves mass-producing Hilux pickups to be converted into personnel carriers to capture as much abandoned US equipment and land as possible...

Thanks to my retarded cousins showing me this limp-dicked article as some sort of justification to suck on the Democratic teat, I now am obligated to spread my misery around.

So here we have a shitty San Fran journalist that correctly tallies up SoCal votes for the Newsom recall in the order of LA, OC, and San Diego.  SoCal, the fucking prime cash cow of California (and the largest source of these votes) is disregarded by said journalist simply based on the fact that a measly 9400 votes came from SanFran.

So obviously, Toilet City™ should be voting against this recall out of some kind of loyalty to a governor that locked down the city and closed most of the small businesses there, and possibly there is a chance that his replacement will do worse (even though it's really the legislative body that has consistently fought for higher taxes, shitty and slow projects, and the phasing out of actually helpful infrastructure).  Right?

Or you know, they could actually make a decision to vote for somebody that might make a fucking difference because of their background in the legislative side of things...

Anyway, our shitty journalist was a guest writer, meaning that she's been flapping her gums for no reason other than to ride on the coattails of an existing publication (in this case, the SF Examiner).  No well-known articles, no investigative journalism, just distractive pieces on "ethnic perspectives" on local businesses...

And I have to fucking wonder how many hacks like her there are in similarly-sized small-news corps.

Maybe, just maybe we could unfuck Reagan's fuckup and bring back the fairness doctrine. Then I wouldn't have to burn my eyes on opinion articles all day.

Sure sure whatever. No one's reading this, you should put that picture of the Taliban in the bumper cars to increase viewership.

To the FBI / HomeSec / CIA / NSA agents watching, just remember:

This is the first and last time anyone in the Taliban gets to drive something that isn't a Toyota Hilux.  Have a little heart.

Can't believe we just glossed over this way back when...

So yeah, apparently the US Army had a policy to not combat boy-raping gangs within the Afghan military.  Gee, I wonder how a whole new generation of Taliban could rise when Afghan was getting oh-so secured...

This was making the rounds again a couple of months ago, you're late. But yes for that and a lot of reasons it's really not surprising the Taliban got zero opposition, we weren't accomplishing shit over there.

Mostly though I'm just replying for an excuse to post this:

You know, I was going to do a whole rant post, but this video sums up the point decently. Way too many financial types are taking lead roles in industries where a marketing / operations management type would be better suited to meeting the logistical / PR needs of entertainment companies. You could extend this idea to Disney nowadays, which copycats Netflix and Hulu for a subscription service to (mostly) mediocre shows. Sure, it's nice to be able to own your own streaming platform so you can capture revenue directly, but if you're Disney and your specialty is in acquiring and refining IPs to be extremely marketable, why go through the effort of creating a whole new infrastructure on content that will be throttled by your own creative output? Sure, your barrier to entry will be lower, but now you'll have increased demands by quantitative and qualitive output. And, given the horrid state of Marvel Comics (upon which the MCU is based on), how can there be any more desirable comics if full creativity isn't given to the authors?

Not that I'm a fan of DC; their works feel just as monolithic with excessively dark storywriting (an undying trend since the 90's), but I wonder if there's a critical point at which Disney might end up stepping on the toe of some anti-trust law.

For that matter, aren't we also getting to the point where Hollywood is getting outpaced by the likes of Georgia and China as well?  Marketing hasn't been Hollywood's strongest suit for the past 10 years with summary-trailers, mostly floppy movies, and a huge leaning for 80's-90's directors (which can only produce so many different types of movies until people become sick of it), etc.

And while Hollywood holds an incredible amount of soft power outside of the US, one has to wonder whether or not the associated risks with aging directors, producers, actors, and actresses can keep up with the benefits at the going rate.  Sure, there's plenty of laws and lawyers to keep Hollywood's current state safe from encroaching hands (you know, people that would gladly take the IP of a film flop and make a better crack at it in series format over film), but with the rise of consumption of digital media and non-traditional filming sets (looking back at you, Georgia), why wouldn't new film-makers want to jump ship for shallower waters?
