Suggestions for improvements and additions to the site.
This feature was rejected 4/5/2014: After debate, the only real advantage to this would be contests and admins can bankroll user contests.

What I would like to see on CYS is point donation. Well, the thing is, I have a friend on CYS who lost all of his points (he is rash and bigheaded and all that) because he bet 5 points on each of his RPS duels and continuously lost to somebody's fire and air. Also, it would be pretty cool if we could donate points for some sort of holiday, like this: Happy New Years! Here are two points for being friendly to me for the whole year! We could attach some sort of message along with the points to people and to prevent trolls from giving points to themselves from each account, we could limit the amount of points given or something like that.

It'd certainly make points useful. Sort of like point payment, the limit is a good idea.

5 points per person per week?

Points are meant to be a metric of your dedication to the site. They would lose that function if you could transfer them.

I like the idea of this, since then regular members can create contests and award their own points. That way the regular members can run writing contests etc. Would be pretty cool.

Unsure how you'd control the troll problem, but it's pretty obvious if it's done.

I agree with Tan on this, allowing users to hold their own writing contests would be really cool. Maybe you could limit the exchanges to one a month or make it required to gain a Mod/Admin's approval to limit the potential troll problems.

Quick question while I'm at it, who would implement new features if they are accepted now-a-days?

Admin approval is something I like, to prevent trolling.

That being said, I'm still against this. It seems like it could get petty pretty quick. Right now, when two people are feeling competitive (and this happens a lot), the best way to get points is to do things to better the site (create or rate stories, etc.). If we implement this, I can see the competition becoming a popularity contest instead.

Good point...

Basically what Tan said, but I still have to disagree, since people could just create multiple accounts and give themselves a million points.... MIT mods/admins could possibly handle that :P

My immediate thought is that admin approval would be necessary.

I can see the appeal of allowing regular members/frequent site contributors to hold writing contests, but I think it would have to be limited, something like "only one active contest at a time" or it could get out of control.

They could kind of do that already, but who's going to write anything of quality for a chance to get 5 points out of a shady, illegal, rigged Toggle duel?

Then they can always talk to an admin to bankroll the contest.

This seems like a great idea, but a lot of baggage comes with it... First of all trolls; you know what I mean. There could be a solution to the troll factor though! Only someone who has reached a certain requirement on the website (rated 10 stories, posted 100 times, etc) can donate/give/reward points to people. It would take a bit of work to implement all of that into the website though. Another problem could be that points would lose their value. Currently, points show how dedicated to the website you are, and if they were used as a currency they might not have the same meaning anymore. But that doesn't have to be a big deal. As long as we limit how many points can be donated in a certain amount of time. Well, thanks for reading my big block of text!

Nah, the only way I could see it working would be if it had to be Admin approved.

That said, asking an Admin to give out points for community-run contests work just as well without any complications. So... Yup.
