The enemies you fight are people just like Joel :

Brothers, fathers, people who had a solid life, who had lost people, and had to struggle to survive.  In the game's dialogue, Joel says that he's been on "both sides", meaning that even a man like him was driven to banditry for a time to survive in the world.  So when you take that into account, every man you kill is like you killing another Joel :P

Just a Joel without an ellie, and a shittier hearing.

He's brutal, but he has a bit more decency than most of the people that they encounter in the game. He'd give you a chance to live if you weren't hostile, like with Sam and Henry.

0% chance of surviving if you mess with Ellie though. David so had what was coming to him.

The Last of Us

David was rather tame when handling a little girl.  Coudl've sworn he would've raped her first thing at the base.

The Last of Us

He still unnerves me all the same. David's patience with Ellie, as well as other hints in the game, point to the fact that he's done this who knows how many times before. She wasn't his first "pet". For him to be experienced in that sort of thing, and having that benevolent attitude and waiting for just the right moment to have his way with her..... *Spoiler, just in case*

So yeah, creepy. Creepy creepy creepy. And the boss fight didn't help. >_<

It didn't phase me in the least.  I dunno.

I would be acting like Ellie.  Biting and essentially insulting him every chance I would get.  I think I'm more afraid of the direct, shocking thing the Clickers and other cordyceps have, when you could lose the most precious things in a snap.

The more emotional stuff affects you a little, the gameplay is pretty good too.

10/10 gameplay.

Throw a brick at a mans head and then punch him down.

Their messed up rating system they have doesn't help either.

The Last of Us

Pretty accurate. Useless rating system or not, this game's so worth playing. :]

I laughed every time I killed a person with a brick and by smashing their faces into corners.

The Last of Us

One reason as to why i will never play this: The dude's name is Joel. I hate it when characters have the same name as me.

The Last of Us

Your name is Joel?

Yeaaa

The Last of Us

That game is insanely good, and the best console game I have played in a long time. I wonder how Beyond Two Souls is.

The Last of Us

It's...decent.

The concept of Aiden was cool, but almost every single character in the game ended up ticking me off at some point. Most of them ended up being either a complete jerk or extremely cliche (To me, at least), and that kind of took away from the whole experience. :/

But... I can't deny that the soundtrack was amazing. :P

I really hesitated to play it because the youtube commercials annoyed me. "Dammit, just leave me alone, game...! I wanna watch this cracked video...!" But then I saw it at redbox and, wouldn't you know it, those freaking ads actually worked. I was intrigued, so I rented it, and played it... and seeing what happened to Joel's kid... it seems a bit obvious, but it got me.

I was thinking "Wow, for once, it's a game about a male protagonist with a female tagalong and it has nothing to do with romance. It's about a  dad, who tried and failed to protect his daughter and gets the chance in his later years, as a grizzly old survivor of a zombie apocalypse, to redeem himself by protecting this new kid. That's... actually a premise I have not played before." Of course, the kid's role in all of this IS cliche, but still. I like it.

:D squeeee

It was quite a refreshing little spin on the zombie genre for video games. Few games in general were able to pull me in emotionally like The Last of Us did, from start to finish. Many of the death scenes did get to me... especially Sarah's. And as cliche as Ellie's role may have been as an escort, her personality was... just so much fun. XD It balanced out nicely with the mostly not-so-fun environments you were thrown into. I'm glad that you enjoyed it!

Should've killed ellie. Wish Joel would let happen happen.

The Last of Us

What. :x

After everything that happened?

The Last of Us

Yeah i mean Ellie a good kid but her sacrifice would've benifited humanity.

The Last of Us

Yeah, but it would've been even more cliche if she had died and saved humanity. This ending at least changed it up.

Really the whole game was pretty cliche since the "Protective father figure" protagonist is pretty common in video games, especially lately. Still, the game overall was entertaining and I liked the fact that Joel was pretty morally gray throughout the game and didn't just become some "good guy" in the end.

The Last of Us

I'm next to positive sacrificing a girl for the sake of humanity counts as more evil than good.

At the very least, refusing to sacrificing someone can never be seen as the morally bad choice lol.

The Last of Us

Most of the time I'm always seeing people say that Joel was being a selfish asshole because he didn't do the "greater good" thing. I mean personally I would've done the same thing as Joel since I always got the impression the Fireflies were grasping at straws and really wouldn't have found a cure anyway.

Hell, that would've been an even grimmer ending. Ellie sacrifices herself and it still didn't result in a cure.

The Last of Us

And in the end, Joel would've lost two daughters, thanks to humanity.

....

...I'm really glad they didn't do that. T-T

The Last of Us

But Ellie not his daughter he would've lost another companion.

The Last of Us

*shrugs*

Not in the literal sense. It just felt like Joel considered Ellie as a second daughter to him by the end of the game, is all.

The Last of Us

Yes, but if I remember correctly, they weren't 100% she would actually give a cure. If I knew 100%, I'd still be unsure about doing it.

The Last of Us

Y'know, in any other PoV other than Ellie's, Joel would've been the "Crazy Dad" villain of the zombocalypse. It kinda gives you a sort of empathy with other generic zombie-game characters, it kinda makes you realize that every NPC is a person with hopes and dreams and such, and that they're just as scared as you are. (or as scared as you're supposed to be...)
