Self-promotion... is it allowed? Where to post?

Hi all! I'm a writer and blogger of interactive fiction. I write a lot, I just don't usually do it here. But I've read a lot of the stories and been lurking for years.

Anyway, I'm working on an interactive fiction novel that's currently on Kickstarter to raise money for art. I think it may be of interest to some of you, but I don't want to be that rude guy coming in being like, "Come check out my stuff! Oh yeah, I don't actually care about any of you!"

So yeah... just wondering, is there interest? Should I piss off? If I should share more info, which forum is best for that? I've never really been a big forum user in general, so still feeling out etiquette.

Piss off.

No, just kidding! I don't know if there's much money to be had from most of the readers of the forums here, but I would think a post like that would be fine in the Lounge forum. Prepare for it to either be ignored a lot or have hundreds of posts that have nothing to do with the subject, though. That's pretty much what we do here.

Link it and we'll see if there's interest.

Posting about your own work would likely be under writing workshop, maybe lounge depending on if you're actually discussing the story or if you're just promoting it.

In the words of Forums: The Doorway in to Our World:

"The Parlor Room This forum is full of walkthroughs, people bragging about a game, or even advertising that their newest creation has been finally published."

So for finished games, go there to advertise, but for your situation I'd suggest Writing Workshop.

Thanks for this! I went ahead and posted about it in the Parlor Room, since I'm not really still seeking advice on the writing at this point.

Hello and nice to meet a former lurker. If you're trying to attract interest, I'd suggest developing a reputation on here first, but eh. Maybe you'll have some luck, I'm not sure.

The Lounge or Parlor room would be fine.

There shouldn't be any qualms unless you're spamming for advertisement, so there shouldn't be any problems if you do.  Go ahead.
