Someone else recently PMed me asking why I don't submit anything on COG.
The first reason is the fact that the stories on there rely and are based more around game elements and that relies on a lot of coding. And that isn't really something I'm interesting in doing.
The second thing is more of a personality issue on my part. Namely, I really don't think my writing style would mesh well with the site's agenda. (And I'm certainly not going to change it anytime soon)
CoG has very... shall we say politically correct goals when it comes to presenting stories. I couldn't very well have the usual protagonists I typically write under the current guidelines in place. Now technically there isn't any censorship over there, but in reality, the forum members, mods and admins do everything short of it.
A good example is someone over there was writing a story about being a female wrestler in a scifi setting. (Something like that) The dude got blasted for writing "mysogynist rape culture endorsing porn" by some of the forum. Really it wasn't some "slut shaming rape endorsing screed", it was just a bit poorly written and unrealistically silly.
The author actually was pretty polite considering the negative heat he was getting. Ultimately the admin told him he had to write a story more fitting with cog's agenda or he couldn't have a thread talking about the story anymore. He stuck to his guns and said okay, thread got locked and he had to make a separate blog or something and post a link to it so that discussion could continue by those that actually were interested in the story (and there were some). Not that it does much good since a locked thread eventually sinks to the depths of the forums and won't easily be found no matter what links are on it. And guess what? Every new thread he makes to post a link on updates, gets immediately locked too.
Now if you've got an agenda of not wanting certain stories written on the site or whatever, then that's fine. Say it up front and make rules clear about it. Don't do this half ass shaming shit where the author is a horrible person if they write X and censor him.
Anyway, the apple App Store also has guidelines about what can get through too, so assuming I didn't get scolded by cog, I'm fairly certain it wouldn't pass the apple people and that's fine as well since as I said, I'm not into coding and my stuff isn't really fitting what cog style stuff is anyway.
Of course this isn't to say CoG sucks or something, because I've read some stuff over there and liked it. Never felt the need to buy anything though. And if there came some day where one of the admins or whoever is in charge wanted me to submit something over there (yeah right!) I wouldn't dismiss the idea, but like I said I wouldn't change my style of writing.
So no, you can't play as a bisexual black Asian tranny in my story and I'm not giving the option to romance a fucking furry. Get someone else to write it if that's the sort of protagonist you want to play as.
Hell if someone actually wrote such a protagonist and the storyline was written well enough, I'd still play it. Wouldn't bother me, but I'm not writing to make some statement on liberty, equality and justice for all, I'm mainly writing for my own enjoyment. So if you want morally gray to outright villain protagonists that tend to swear more than average, well that's what I do.
(One of these days I would like to make a larger story with a female protagonist though)
