Hi there!

Hi there I am EmperorDestructor. I am a teenager who likes Star Trek and Star Wars. I also am a fan of fast cars and used to like steam trains. I hope I can make a good impression on this website and create great stories about sci-fi!

ED is an abbreviation of a longer username that forms a male name. So is ALF. Waitaminute...

Don't just stand there. Join the party!

I enjoy a good steam show. Steam engines (the predecessor to the modern farm tractor), they are just — cool.  :P

Hi. *no answer*  Hello?  *no answer again*

Well then...  I'm still getting the silent treatment.

You like both Star Wars AND Star Trek? BLASPHEMY! (Not really, I don't actually give a damn.)

You like great sci-fi stories, hmm? Are you familiar with a little game series called Mass Effect, by any chance?

Well, I was almost familiar with it, but when it came time to choose which sci-fi game I should get, I was presented with the choice between a silent but witty armored white guy with a crowbar and a boring armored white guy who may as well have been silent as the first guy, for all the difference his choices made.

In other words, I played Half-Life instead. The way the series ended, I'm glad I did.

0.o ... Tch, I'd take Mass Effect over Half-Life any day.

Mind you, I'm not saying Half-Life is not good. I'm just saying Mass Effect is a hell of a lot better. :P (And there is nothing boring about Commander Shepard, be it male or female, s/he is a badass. I've seen all Half-Life and all Mass Effect games through to the end, by the way.)

I found Commander Shepard almost indistinguishable from most other FPS protagonists in terms of character. I mean, yes, s/he is badass, but s/he feels a lot more like a blank space, like most FPS characters are supposed to feel like I could hardly be arsed to remember its first name. The thing is, the options and story become bland, and feel forced, I just want to say "Fuck this cutscene and its all-or-nothing options, let me blast aliens again!" To be fair, blasting aliens in M.E. is a bit more fun than it is in Half-Life 1, but I do indeed find Shepard boring, and could care less about him/her and the characters surrounding it. As far as space marines go, a lot more thought was put into it than the others, but, like Mario, Gordon exudes more personality than Shepard without saying a single word. That's saying a lot, since technically Gordon's face is only seen about 4 or 5 times throughout the game, and the most emotion he's ever expressed in-game was done with a crowbar.

Back on the subject of me saying "Fuck this cutscene" another thing I love about Half Life is that it expects you to find blasting aliens fun, it keeps the (in-cutscene) storyline focused on your goals and doesn't weigh you down with everything unless you genuinely give a fuck about the storyline and/or characters. That's the thing I love about the Batman Arkham series, one of the few things I like about Doom 4, It keeps the theatrics focused only on what's going on right now, lets you have all the fun in the world, and allows you to pick up on the story if it catches your interest. And the thing of it is, every time I've played a "storyline optional" game, (Even some somewhat insipid games like Daylight and the new Doom) I've been very interested in the story, and probably went through more trouble to get to it all then it did to have it spoon-fed to me by annoying cutscenes that I wanted fuck-all to do with anyway. Granted, this can be done right, there are a bajilllion games that can testify to that, but all in all, I just couldn't get into the story, and it was just me waiting for it to get over with so I could blast aliens again.

That being said, I never played any Mass Effect games from beginning to end, so I don't know if anything happened that could ever really change my tune, but I do know that the last one had a godawful ending that caused more rage than the last episode of the sopranos, and that Half Life 2 was able to hold my interest even when Mass Effect fell flat on its face.

Not to hand-wave your opinion or anything, dude, but ... "I never played any Mass Effect games from beginning to end" makes it a tad harder to take the argument seriously after seeing all of 'em myself... but different strokes for different folks. There were a lot of elements of gameplay that I have never seen in any other game and thought were pretty damn cool, but meh. If you prefer Half-life, good for you.

I never did personally play any Mass Effect games from beginning to end because their story bored me, and once its general concept of alien slaughter started dulling down, there was really nothing pulling me into the game anymore. Now, I know I technically shouldn't judge it if I haven't seen the whole thing, but about the first half of the game is a long time, and if I can't get interested in it by that time, then it's more of a video-chore than it is a video-game.

xD I don't think paying attention is on your list of priorities, period. (Why act surprised if you don't bother to read mah posts, man?)

I read your posts, I just didn't pick up on that detail. How long have you been married?

You can learn all kinds of shit from Kiel's posts!

They got married last year. They have 6 children. They live on a farm in Aruba growing watermelons and bannanas for homeless people. Kiel does not have sweaty handshakes with people, just in case that person has Ebola.
