In SCI you are the leader of a team of elite detectives in a violent and dangerous city where you must solve tough and challenging crimes from bank robberies to murders (single, mass and serial), prison escapes, the Mafia and more mundane crimes such as robberies and drug dealing. Inspired by amazing real life cases this story pits you against some of the most evil, smartest and toughest criminals to ever terrorize the streets of urban America...
This story is inspired by CSI (I've never actually seen it but I feel I like the name and the concept :) ) and the cases are adapted from true crimes with some names and details changed. I've decided to make this a stand-alone story and I hope you enjoy it and, as always, thank you for taking the time to read my scribblings.

I did all the cases and now I want more cases hehe. My favorite ones are the medical malpractice, the prisoner escape and the identity fraud case. The other ones were a little too convoluted and I thought that there were a little too much moving pieces in an already pretty short and very dense story.
The cases were all very intriguing and diverse and above all fun. I really appreciated that you didn't have a quiz at the end of it, because I kinda suck at these things.
One thing I would like to see in the next edition, is a bit more varied choices. Most of them entail: keep up or give up and you almost never get punished by stretching out your resources to keep up the search. (The choices to pursue or to give up would be more engaging if you put more of a resource management element in the game. Every time you use pursue, some of your budget goes down.)
I would have liked to see Richard stumble onto false leads or arrest the wrong person (there are plenty of falsely convicted people in the us prison system). The 6th story did something quite interesting by choosing whether or not to shoot the kid which made for a more interesting dilemma. I would also like to see more missing people's cases hehe.
As for the characters, to be honest, I find the criminals a lot more engaging as characters than the cops and their team. The story delves a lot deeper into their personal lives, goals and character motivation. Even their mannerisms were very memorable (like the first guy's thing being utterly unmemorable and wanting something exciting in life or the daughter defending her dad/pretend spouse in the identity swap story)
Still, I don't think you should worry about it too much. Most people watch detective/cop stuff for the episodic nature and the mystery element and not for the recurring characters.
(In character description, bit of a nitpick, but often you seem to describe a lot and a lot of women as pretty or beautiful. It doesn't really say a lot if pretty much every young woman in the story is described as such haha. Saying that they are young is enough for me to paint a good picture of them)
All in all, it's fun and I want to see more of this stuff! Good job Will! (Sorry that it took a while, but I wanted to read through every mystery first)

Well Wills Stories are always pretty fat and girthy. All the Cases I went through were enjoyable and nothing felt like a slog, was pretty easy but if it was something hard I'd probably not finish the story since backtracking through some story games can be pretty meh, liked what you did with the story nevertheless but it's to be expected with the quality that you do.

These cases obviously took a great deal of work to research and make. Without looking up the names of characters involved I can't tell if they are based on real cases or ingeniously devised by the author - until I checked the introduction and see that they're adapted from true crimes.
I didn't feel much like I was 'solving' most of the crimes - just following along with the obvious choices. It's instructive in how detectives often need to persevere with cases even when the trail's gone cold.

This game was good, but it was really easy. You could solve all of the mysteries without even reading it. It seemed like you could either give up, or keep looking, and if you pressed keep looking, then you would get one choice pages for a while until the last TWO choice endings. It was boring, but that could just be me. Try adding more options and twists to throw players off a bit. Good job though.

Halfway through the third case, I started to think that it would be more interesting to lead a group of incompetent detectives. In this story, you don't need to pay attention to detail, your team will do all of the groundwork for you. The only real decision you make in any of these cases (save the last one) is to press on when the goin' gets rough. The 6th case solves this by getting rid of most of the gang and making you consider your choices, even if they are very simple. There's great moment where you're given the choice to shoot a fleeing armed suspect in the back. Earlier in the game, the narrator lauds your partner's trigger discipline when she doesn't take the shot in a similar situation. I wish the game had more moments like that, where attention to detail was rewarded.
This was still a very worthwhile read. The prose is very matter-of-fact, which is fitting for this type of game. I enjoyed this!

Huh, it seems to have worked properly on my second comment attempt. Maybe I overlooked something the first time.

I finished the game with a score of 6, but my comment only showed a score of 5 for some reason.
