Due to recent demands, just a few changes to site policy. Over the next few weeks, we will be sulfurous threads that do not comply.
The chooseyourstory.com forums are a welcoming place for all writers, readers, and people who do neither. Please treat others in this forum with respect, regardless of literacy levels, age, IQ, species, username, avatar, opinions, legal status, effort, or intent.
If you're not sure what you're typing is welcoming, you need to make it nicer, or else strike yourself sharply ten times on the wrist with a spork and then post nothing at all.
Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree!
You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That's not okay. That hurts feelings, and destroys lives.
Please avoid:
Name-calling.
Ad hominem attacks.
Responding to a post’s tone and coherency instead of its actual intent.
Knee-jerk contradiction.
Reasonable counter-arguments.
Numbered lists.
Yapping.
The conversations we have here set the tone for everyone. Help us influence the future of this community by choosing to engage in discussions that make this forum a relentlessly positive place to be.
Coming soon: a flagging system to alert moderators of any potentially problematic posts, particularly the ones you disagree with. Don't engage with the ideas in those posts, just alert the authorities and have your opposition silenced.
In order to maintain our community, moderators reserve the right to remove any content and ban any user account for any reason at any time. Do Not Question This. (Unless you want us to upgtage to the flogging system.)
Always Be Civil
Nothing sabotages a healthy conversation like rudeness. Be polite! Don’t post anything that a sheltered middle class White person would consider offensive, and don’t advocate for any of these things.
Remember, keep CYS a beautiful town with beautiful people. No wrong exits, no bad neighborhoods.
Keep it clean.
Respect each other.
Don’t Argue.
When a game is posted, provide positive feedback. If you disagree with a decision an author has made in a game, you may POLITELY explain why: but only with permission.
When you dislike a game, it's best to say nothing, and internally question why you're such a negative person.
If the author asks you to stop making suggestions for improvement, you must do so at once.
Don’t disrespect any group of people. Nazis, incels, autists, boomers, zoomers, furries, weebs, illiterates of all stripes, RTE-users, toaster fuckers. Drawing attention to these differences with any kind of bias makes others feel uncomfortable.
Avoid subtle -isms. These are small things that make others feel uncomfortable, things that we all sometimes do by mistake. For example, saying “Your mom is so easy my grandmother could do her!” is ableism, and strictly not allowed
Apologize. If you make other people uncomfortable on our forums, especially by mistake, apologize, or or else.
Don’t argue about civility in public. Don’t defend yourself, don’t defend others, and don’t pile on to someone who made a mistake. If you see a problem, don’t reply, don't do anything. Be like the noble sea cucumber.
Respect our forum.
These are not concrete rules with precise definitions -- they will be interpreted however the mods decide. For your own safety, avoid even the appearance of negativity. Keep the language and images safe for family and friends. Don't ask questions if anyone disappears.
That is all.

I was waiting to see that in a response. But it seems the authorities not only know best, they have already changed the hearts and minds of the people, ushering in a new era of inclusion, diversity, affirmation, and equity.

I would like to request that TypedRooster replace me on the mod team! Meanwhile we should feature and commend every story, post and review so that no one feels left out :)
While we're suggesting changes, contests are too adversarial, they just promote rivalry and overly competitive grudges. Everyone should give each other pats on the back for unfinished WIPs since attempting to write is a feat in itself regardless of actual output. Let's rename the Pit of Shame into something friendlier, like the "Palace of Sunshine".

Your writing is masterful as always, Thara. The post itself is dense with content and choices, and it kept me entertained until the very end. I couldn't help but be curious in all of the possible outcomes and decisions that are so neatly and wonderfully placed in this story of a single word. I have to say that I enjoyed every minute of this post. I'm tempted to say that you have outdone yourself, but your writing is always consistent in just how good it is. Thanks for yet another wonderful read, I eagerly anticipate the next post that you may create. Be it some inspired sequel to this post, or something completely different altogether. At this point I think that it is safe to say that it is only right for me to look toward to your next piece. The level of care and attention to detail that you place into each of your posts is always a treat to read and enjoy. Thank you once again, for writing this wonderful and enthralling post.
(All posts should be like mine from now on, full of praise and compliments and nothing more).
