Hi,
I'm brand new to this community, and this is my first post on this forum.
Myself and two peers recently found a little company in South Africa (www.glio.co.za). One of our values is community upliftment, and given South Africa's extremely low literacy rates, we aspire to publish a collection of storygames on Mxit with the hopes of "getting people to read more". Mxit (www.mxit.com) is the largest social network in Africa, boasting around 10 million active users in South Africa (this is 20% of our population). Mxit is very similar to WhatsApp, but it is designed to work on just about any phone, especially feature phones (which is quite plentiful in South Africa). I believe that the storybook format is ideally suited for the Mxit demographic, as it is digested an enjoyed quite easily. I also feel that 'getting people to read' (hopefully) is an awesome opportunity to uplift my community (a community where literacy is super low).
Eventually my hope is to have storybooks authored by South Africans for South Africans by initiating parnerships with educational institutions, but to get it off the ground I need an initial library of books. I can provide the distribution of storybooks (through a Mxit app), but I don't have the content. These stories will generate some ad revenue, and I might even introduce content sales later (e.g., read the first 3 chapters free).
Here is my proposition: I will provide a 25% royalty on all revenue generated by a storybook for non-exclusive rights (meaning you can publish it elsewhere too) to the storybook. This provides an opportunity with very little risk for authors and a chance to make a bit of passive income on the side. It will be possible to track stats for their storybooks through a web front-end, and (depending on amounts) payments will be made monthly via PayPal.
Preferably the story needs to broken up in short, easily-digestible chapters (or instalments) Due to the nature of the platform, shorter is better. The fewer the amount of sentences between choices. The story also can't contain any obscenity or vulgarity (it needs to be suitable for all ages).
Would anyone be interested in such a partnership?
P.S. Sorry if this comes across as spam -- I tried to get it as unspammy as possible.
