Hey! So, I am new here (well, obviously) but I have been spending time on this wonderful website since 2023. I haven't written anything (cause I just made an account, also obvious) but I do write short stories and novels for fun, so I figure that I might as well learn how to write on this site. I also particularly enjoy Endmaster and Steve (I wish he and other people wouldn't beat him up so much although I don't like his fondness for the word "retarded") Anyways, I hope my ADHD addled brain can focus on one story to get it done for ya'll. And yes I am actually gay, and if you have a problem with it, then get the fuck over it. I also love grim-dark fantasy and sci-fi, so if anyone wants to talk to me about 40k, trench crusade, grim hollow, and my own worlds, then step right up. I am also a history buff and know quite a bit about it. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

I have actually read all of those and I especially like the hasting's game all though I wish it had more body text. I was just reading Naz's crash out and was getting scared that this site is really toxic.

I swear I am not rooster, I am seriously just a guy who wanted to write stories but honestly this place feels like a warzone, especially with everyone immediately asking if I'm rooster... I don't even know who rooster is and what they did

In that case, welcome! Occasionally, users who get banned from the community for doing things against our site rules make alternate accounts to spam and continue the behavior that got them banned. It can be a pretty persistent problem here, that's why many of us are jaded and on guard.

But I'd like to retract my earlier suspicion, and offer you a warm welcome! It's good to have you! A lot of the stuff you're into, grimdark fantasy and history, are really popular around here! So you've come to the right place. Hope you stay and try to engage with the community, I promise we don't bite!

Rooster was an AI boosting noob who very recently had a massive flameout who then came back under unimaginative alts, swearing not to be him. There are things about the way you write your posts that are similar to how he did, so it is kind of sus.

Okay then, I will extend grace.

CYS is a writing site with a very anti-generative AI policy which is displayed very clearly. There was a user, TypedRooster, who used AI to write a story, which he got banned for, because obviously. But then he started spamming alts today, so really you unfortunately just picked the wrong week to join the site - people might assume you're him, especially non-mods who can't check IP to verify. The AI pissed a lot of people off, including myself, considering that Rooster used it to "write" a game in my favorite niche.

Anyway, now that I'm done explaining all that, I do hope you're an actual individual curious about writing and may the odds be ever in your favor. That thread I linked should explain some of the more 'negative' aspects of the site and I do suggest you give it a read.

(P.S. As for what RK said, we DO bite... But only if you use AI or are a literal fucking Nazi.)

I investigated and I think he's legit, just bad timing to show up right after we hosed what's left of Rooster's alt off the floor.

I am however very relieved to see he's openly gay, otherwise I'd have had fears we had another Mormon on our hands.

Hey, welcome to the site :D

It is true that the forums can take a lot of getting used to, check out the thread Liminal shared for a good discussion about the nature of the forums and if you're not a fan of them there is nothing wrong with focusing on the reading / writing aspects of the site. It's cool that you're into history, always need more Edutainment / History writers :D If you're not a fan of people using the word "fag" you probably aren't going to enjoy online forums very much and calling out the best writer on this site who's been around for nearly 20 years and is one of the biggest individual presences on here for using the word "fag" will not end well :)

But yep, enjoy the site, there are plenty of good things to read, looking forward to enjoying your writing and for those times when things do get a bit fractious on the forums be aware you can just ignore them and focus on other areas of the site if you don't want to get involved :) Enjoy your time here!

3. Bit of advice: If you don't have tough skin, you'd better develop those callouses real fast. If you've spent more than 5 minutes around this community, you should know that they can be quite harsh at times. In fact, I'll give you a one-sentence summary of this website:
   1. "CYS is a community of wholesome individuals who take pleasure in defending their friends and brutally dismembering their enemies."
   2. Related to that, a lot of people say "lol, fag" around here. Nine times out of ten, it's used jokingly and not meant to be offensive. The other 10% of the time, they mean all of it, and probably more. I suggest that you get used to it, as it isn't going away or changing anytime soon.

Finally, someone said it! I was starting to think I would have to do it myself.

I was planning on saying it, but I HAD to once you explained CYS and told them that people say "Lol, fag" a lot.

I'm trying to remember the origins of "lol, fag". I think it was the time some kid we'd never seen before made some giant rambling post about how his girlfriend from Bible camp had broken up with him and now his life was now over, and End just replied with that.
