Hey, guys, just informing anyone who hasn't noticed (I know, most of you have, there's been plenty of buzz)-- today is the day when the stories for the SpringThing contest are released. As the three entrants from our home site-- me, Killa_Robot, and Briar_Rose compete with each other... and whoever entered from Twine or whatever, who cares, it'd be great to have our fellow site mates cheer us on.

By the way, did anyone else notice that all three of us who entered have an underscore in our name? >_>' That's kinda weird.

Underscores are for clever people! It means we can separate first and last names instead of just sticking them together and throwing a bunch of numbers on the end. And I'm kind of embarrassed of my game now, after reading Killa's, and I haven't even gotten started on yours yet. Play length 7s are for noobs 

Don't be, you put a lot of work into that story and it shows. I think we all did very well.

How do you vote? I see a list of the games but not anywhere to vote. Do you have to be a judge to vote or can anyone vote?

Yeah, you have to be a judge first. I think there's rules somewhere about applying to be a judge.

I'll take to mean only the first 3 places get a cash prize, haha. Which surprises me, since I thought the prizes would be a bit more uniform based on past years. Then again, it's a new guy this year.

Just to warn all you guys(and girl) about an important rule to follow. (Edited for emphasis)

1. If your game is in the competition, then you may not publicly discuss either it or any competitors' games during the judging period. If you need to correct a public misstatement of fact about your game, please contact the organizer, who will relay the message.

Besides, I don't think we've actually discussed any of the games.

Does rating the game and leaving comments count? 

Aaron clarified that in one e-mail to the entrants. "It's fine to talk about the competition and that your game is in it, but not to canvas for votes or discuss the details of your game (until the voting period is over)."

I don't think anyone's asked for votes and we haven't really discussed details. No one's throwing out spoilers or in-depth game-play / plot notes.

Hey remember that part in Killa's game? Where that guy said that thing to that girl, and then that thing happened and then everybody went and did that thing they did? That bit was awesome ^_^

(Personally, I preferred that thing that happened at that place with those people at that time on that day. You know, after you say that stuff to that guy about the other person? It was just...like, yeah, you know?)

From what I understand, the top 3 winners get a cash prize, but there's also other prizes for runners up, so there's gonna be more than 3 winners ^_^

Well, I think it's actually you get to pick your prize in whatever order you finish in. It just so happens people tend to pick the big cash prizes first haha.

The voting page is now open. As a reminder, you must play at least half of the games to vote (five games, this year) and you must vote and confirm your ballot by May 11th, 2014. Authors are not allowed to vote, but beta testers (and anyone else) can!

Is the link. Just scroll down to where you see "Vote", and it gives a link to the voting page. From what I can tell, you have to vote for everything at once, so I'd recommend keeping track of the scores you give each game, then voting all at once. Deadline isn't until May.11th, so you have plenty of time.

Well finally played all the CYS games, and I have to say I liked them.

Briar's being the best, then Killa's and then Kiel's (would have been higher if I liked maze games :P)

So, are the other games any good? Too lazy to find out on my own :D

Yeah, there's a difference between mazes and puzzles. Personally I love mystery/puzzle games and I think it's awesome! ... Well, I think it's awesome so far. Still need to finish it 

Soz, thought it was the same category. Well, I don't really like puzzles but the setting was nice. If I had made the game it would end with ordering the pizza.

But the game DOES end if you order pizza. xD It just ends badly, because I'm just kind of evil like that. xD

I think that if you call his mom it ends even worse.

He was whining that he couldn't download the CYS entries so he was going to ignore them and mentioned he gave up on CYS a long time ago because of that reason, so as far as he's concerned it doesn't exist.

Terrible way to run a contest really, the voters should have to read all the entries.

I'll admit that it would be pretty neat to have a 'CYS app' and we'd be able to play games on the go (especially the longer ones like Eternal or Dead Man Walking).

Still a really dumb excuse to not play them though (especially since the CYS games are all 100x better than that stupid hexagon game :P)

To be fair, some of the other games in the competition look really good. Though I dunno if I'm allowed to say which 'cos I think we're not supposed to talk about other games during the voting period

Wow, that's pretty stupid. I think the reason we can't download them is because we've got like variables and scripts and items and stuff.

I might agree if these were video games with Dark Souls level of graphics, but all of this stuff is text based. I used to still have DIAL UP at one time and I could still navigate through this site with relative quickness.

What's "The Bibliophile" about? I'd find out, but anything with "Phile" on the end of it freaks me out. Given the other root word, it's probably just a guy who masturbates with a rolled up paperback, but I won't take any chances...

Keep in mind, you have to vote for at least half of the games for any of your votes to be registered, and a lot of the games look pretty good. 

Bear Creek is pretty damn good. I swear, you can SCREAM to pass the time and listen in on conversations.  Your grandpa and older sister will THANK you for touching them.  Fucking insane.

Funny, though, none of those reviewers seem to care to say why my story apparently deserved that rating. Briar is the only person to comment on my story since it was put back up. :P

But yeah, I get annoyed when that happens. My game got a 2 the other day, which is kind of worse than a 1, 'cos if a generally popular game gets a 1, you can assume it's just someone being a jerk for no reason, but when it gets a 2, it's like... So you acknowledge it's not the worst game in the world, but you still think it's terrible... Thanks

Honestly, I'm pretty sure it's some sort of glitch. Getting 5 3s in one day (well, actually more like overnight) on a story which gets ratings as slowly as mine seems really unlikely. What probably happened is 1-2 people gave it that rating, and for some reason it counted theirs multiple times.

Oh well though, I didn't expect the story to stay as an 8 for long anyway haha.

Yeah, I'm guessing someone pressed the button, nothing happened, so they pushed it again, nothing happened again, so they pushed it again, again... And then it worked 3 times as well

I read Briar's I thought it was very good.

Well the Sam Ashwell guy seems to think it isn't, which I totally dissagree with I think it's awesome especially with the time briar had to work on it. 160 pages in 15 days.

Meh, short time limit's not really an excuse for a mediocre game, but I do plan on making it more up to scratch once the comp's over.
