I think we're pushing ourselves towards a dystopian future. Share your opinions on what you think and why.
I'll go first, obviously. First off, here we are, destroying entire ecosystems to build more homes, or new power plants, or whatever we want. Destroying the rain forest because we want more lumber? Why not just have some giant tree farms rather than destroy yet another ecosystem. And we drill for oil, metal, gold, etc., and we are basically tearing up what we live on. When we need to expand, we build both up and out.
And the way we treat the oceans - horrible! Think of all the oil and hazardous waste we put in there, the stuff we don't want. We are killing everything. And it doesn't help that we aren't able to do anything with the Pacific Garbage Patch, because if we make progress, some dumbshits toss more crap into the ocean to end up there. And the landfills are practically their own ecosystems. We have built giant ecosystems of our own trash.
Then we have what we do to each other. In every war, people die on both sides. Pointless deaths. With the creation of missiles, we had given ourselves more death and destruction that is pointless. Nazi gas chambers? Kills more pwople. As you breath poisonous gas, your neighbor is being shot with an automatic rifle, while your parents, halfway across the state, are being killed by a grenade. A nuclear missile comes down, and kills so many people, destroys so much. Atomic bombs go off as the sun rises in cities rather than in the sky. All the people we send to space, imagine what they do when they go down into the Earth's atmosphere. Some debris comes off as it falls down to Earth. Our one-in-a-kind planet that we live on.
So, basically, unless 100% of the world's population become tree-hugging World Peace activists, then we will all be lead to a dystopian future - if we last that long before the Earth spontaneously combusts.
