Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

Castorgreatpoetguy,

I challenge you to a battle of words. Namely, a poem. Any and all members are to cast their votes for the superior poem, and the winner gets... bragging rights, I guess.

Anyway, the theme and type of poem can be decided by the people, I guess.

Do you accept this duel?

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

The challenge has been given.  As the challenged, @Castorgreatpoetguy is entitled to select the genre of the poem.

Each of the duelists is permitted to select a second to examine the genre in order to ensure that it is in good working order and to ensure that the duel is conducted honorably.

This challenge is now mandatory. If @castorgreatpoetguy doesn't respond in 24 hours, there will be consequences.

Those of you not involved (everyone but the duelists, Gower, and any seconds chosen) please don't attempt to interfere.

Gah, that was one hell of a boring duel invitation. Allow me to try again - with actual flare.

There was this poet name Castor,

Who with words he would claim he's a master.

And then Ficsean came;

Summoned him to this game,

Which will probably end in disaster.

There is only one choice for Castor,

Which would be to match wits even faster,

But with Fic he just knows

That anything goes,

But Castor has that title of Master.

Will you protect your title, or will I be the new master?

I accept your duel and the rights for bragging.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

Okay but how about the thing you were asked to do so this can move ahead?

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

If I lose then I will submit the name castorgreatpoetguy to a name of your choise, as the winner it can be whatever name you pick and I will sitck with that name henceforth. If you lose then you are the one who has to change his name and, obviously, I will be changing it. Do you agree to these terms?

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

I'm so excited to choise the winner.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

As the challenged, you must select the genre of poetry at this time.  The original challenge was of course for bragging rights.  Name changes not having been in the challenge, they are not part of this duel.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

I understand that the stakes are bragging rights only now.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

You could pick sonnet, or triolet, or sestina, or limerick, or pantoun, for example.  Any of those, or literally hundreds of others.  You have but to utter one of them.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

I agree with these new terms, plus I will admit that I have some neat name ideas.

Castor, the genre (and possiblly the structure) are yours to choose.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

He's going to need up a little time to look up the ones Gower listed.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

Can I be unhelled if I win?

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

We've determined that only bragging rights are at stake for this particular duel.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

I'm not sure where Castor got the idea it was his role to dictate terms or why Ficsean went along with that.

Really, name changes should be disallowed because the stakes are not equal and Castor picked something that would effect Ficsean far more than him. (Assuming here for the sake of argument that it's an equal match in other ways too.)

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

Actually, I take that back. Ficsean has only an embarrassing 50 points and at a glance could just as easily be any other noob.

They may continue on with whatever retarded terms he wishes to agree to in this poet's duel where they're writing rhyming acrostics like a second grade class between nap time and recess.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

We will be both be writing an acrostic. It's a simple way to write but I enjoy trying to tie the main word into the poem. But there will be a twist, you MUST include rhyming couplets, if your word has an odd amount of letters, the first and last lines will also be a couplet. The genre is passion. Write about someone or something you are passionate about. May the best poet win.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

An unusal genre, but a rhyming acrostic is a genre.

Each of you, please directly send me your rhyming acrostic.  I will present them here on this thread without your names so that they can be judged anonymously.  You have 24 hours from this moment.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

Quick question for the Gower: will you be judging them to see if they meet the complex criteria required? Or will it be up to the public judges to use pitchforks and other implements of destruction in their judging; but who would also be free to completely ignore the rhyming criteria and what-not to simply select the prettiest word-things submitted?

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

It they are within spitting distance of the form, I'll post them here.  You may freely judge whether or not you approve of any variations from the form.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

Wait, so who's judging? A panel of judges selected by you, or the general population of CYS?

I'm assuming the general population of CYS.

Do you even read the forums?

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

Here are the two entries.  Please vote on the best one.

Poem 1:

Simply write your ideas onto a pad

To share with your friends since you were a lad

Orally express your thoughts but face one thing

Rejectment and harassment, soon I'll feel the sting

Yet I have no fear, but am overwhelmingly mad

Poem 2:

Learning to communicate,
Inclining to affiliate,
Not in need of constant translation,
Gratifying those in their nation.
Unrestricted communication,
I desire with each vacation,
Speaking a tongue you never knew,
To an unfamiliar culture none foreknew.
In only the most distant of soils,
Could one truly speak, words smooth like oil.
So, let us communicate.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

I like poem #2 better.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

Shit's fuckin awful but I pick poem 2

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

I guess I ought to put some sort of time limit on voting.  Let's say next four hours.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

I'd recommend a longer limit, because some people could be in school, at work or asleep, because of different time zones. But hey, you make the rules.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

I like the use of the metaphor in the second one, first one seems pretty simple but I didn’t understand the last Y line, and how getting mad could be related to a story. I pick poem 2

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

I like poem 2

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

Poem 2 even though it reads like cringe spoken word.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

I vote for poem 2, because it sucks just slightly less. But they're both gay.

Poem 1 is a mess. It's written in present tense, but then has "since you were a lad". "Face one thing" is already an awkward phrase, but then becomes even more so when two things are mentioned. It switches from second to first person in the middle. Lastly, the word "but" in the last line would make more sense as a "since".

Also, it's gay.

The author of poem 2 also couldn't decide which pronouns he wanted to use (their, I, you, us). The line "To an unfamiliar culture none foreknew" sounds strange; how does one foreknow a culture anyway? I guess it means a culture that no one imagined, which doesn't rhyme with knew.

Also, it's gay.

I can't find any other flaws at the moment. I'll let others judge the rhymes, rhythm and shit like that.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

Two is better, the theme picked was abstract enough to make it a little more interesting and there's some more creative use of language there, although that is not to say it is actually *good*. It just avoids emo shit about the sting of rejection and while it doesn't exactly flow, it isn't as grammatically awkward and clumsy as the other.

Number 2, 1 doesn't make any sense. Are you mad because of the sting? Must've been a big ass wasp.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

So there's this thing called figurative language. And within the realm of figurative language, there is metaphor. Have you any idea what that is?

Wow that was a real nail biter.

Banning Castor per his own request until such a time as Ficsean gives him his new name.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

Ah, so I have the power to change his name?

I hereby declare that Castorgreatpoetguy will have his name changed to Poet_Castorbean.

Ficsean_Chef vs. Castorgreatpoetguy : Poets' Duel

Should've gone with something worse, dammit. You just know he'd have changed yours to Feces_Chef or something, you're not having nearly enough fun with this.

Not surprising, I bet he had to google what a acrostic was too.

I feel like I should mention that I have never touched a poem in my life.

I had to google whatever the hell an acrostic was.

You would think that someone who was confident enough in their poem writing abilites to name themselves "Great Poet Guy" would actually be decent at writing poems.

I saw Castor online today, but in a completely unsporting manner he has failed to keep up the terms of losing the duel and make the new account he was assigned. The terms he came up with. Shaking my damn head let me tell you ^ ^ ^ a poem!

You are a true artist. Waves of emotion are coursing through me, and I want to slit my wrists while making love with a red rose under the moonlight.
