Limitations of size and complexity??
Greetings all.
I have been investing considerable time in creating my story at chooseyourstory.com. Loving every moment. But...
What concerns me is that everything I'm doing is located on the chooseyourstory server. I think the community here is great (!) but my work seems vulnerable. Apparently, there is no way to save the story offline. So I have been backing everything up as I work in a text file. If the website goes out of existence I have that backup, but not the code. Just a thought. I am grateful that those responsible provide the server space for all the stories (thanks!). This is not something I'm especially worried about... just a thought.
Second, are there size limitations in variables, scripts, and pages? I haven't seen any comment about that. Don't want to suddenly face out-of-memory type errors. I have seen some slowdown in the story creation as the story becomes larger, but not much at this point.
Are there any other issues a newbie should be aware of?
Thanks.

I think that a variable can't store excessively high variables, but doing so wont cause any information loss, it will just create an error for the user playing the storygame when they click on the link that sets the variable out of scope.
There are no realistically imposing limits on variable numbers, script numbers, or page numbers.
Welcome aboard,
3J
P.S: We haven't lost a story since the sites creation nearly 10 years ago.

P.P.S: What good is the code if the site goes out of existence, since all of the language here is proprietary :)

3J,
Can you explain your comment:
"...a variable can't store excessively high variables."
Not sure what you mean by variables storing variables. Any examples? And what do you mean by "excessively high"?
If it would cause a problem for the user, then I need to avoid that as well.
My story is not going to be HUGE+HUGE. Just trying to understand the limitations of the program. Thanks for replying so quickly.

Sorry, just waking up. I meant:
"a variable can't store an excessively high value."
I don't remember the exact number, but its somewhere way up past the trillions I think, if you're really interested in knowing the exact number, you can easily test it by making the first link in your story add huge numbers to a variable to see if it crashes the story.
If you do manage it, what will happen is basically instead of going to the next page, it will show an error page. Like I said though, it's real hard to do.
Other than that, we haven't really run into too many limitations. I've had hundreds of scripts running.

*Maybe not hundreds, I actually don't remember, but a lot, anyway.

Nice to know the limitations. Ah... I won't be even close to pushing the boundaries with a large number of complicated scripts. After all, a baby can't run a marathon. 8^)
Thanks for the explanation.
