Nicely done Milton! Was not expecting to wake up this morning and see a new edition of the gazette. Your productivity is truly inhuman. Also excellent job by the puzzles team and Gazette collaborators, the newspaper is really well done.

I really enjoyed the puzzles and art by Fresh, the crypto quote which I’m assuming is by tcat, and the 3 interviews. MHD also made her own art for her interview, which is next level! This edition had some of the best interviews, I always wanted to know more about Anthraxus, since aside from his helpful reviews, his nice demeanor, the burning skull, and his tendency to make complicated and cool games with lots of scripting, I didn’t know much about him.

I also didn't know Milton was among the first to figure out that there was a secret santa ninja, I thought the ninja and mystic arranged this from the start, so it was cool to know how it came about.

It was also cool seeing how Mizal initially found the site and how in 2016, it was largely populated by warrior cats and spam games. I’m glad that know we seem to have a pretty strong community regularly churning out interesting and well made games.

The WC ban was a little before that, it and the ensuing furry exodus took some time but did signal the beginnings of improvement and a general shift towards "we'd like the community to be a little more serious about writing now and not make threads solely dedicated to meowing at each other".

Although the mods were still having to play Whack-A-Mole with the cat games for YEARS.

2016 is regarded as the upswing year though mostly because of the removal of Pedo Mod Kiel and his army of sock puppets and androgynous sycophants with twinky anime avatars, and the rise of Endmaster of course. Only had limited space of course and I was already typing too many words for that question. (I don't think I hit the right tone with the second section either, might have come off as more negative than intended, and anyway not aimed at any of the real ones who would be reading this. But having waited till the last minute to turn that in as usual there wasn't time to rework it, whoops.)

Some of the other admins would be the ones to consult on the lore leading up to that era though. Besides End who is truly the Ancient One, Sent, Malk, and MHD all comprise the "joined around 2014 when they were around 14" crew and were the ones with boots on the ground among the furry hordes while I was just sort of scornfully glancing in from time to time. (There are others too who still keep in touch, but their site activity has dwindled.. there's a couple of them in particular it's been a real shame to lose.)

That makes sense, I need to check the History again, I think Endmaster also added dates for reference.

I didn't know that MHD, Malk, and Sent were all 14 in 2014. Huh! I was 12 at that time, so I could have been part of that cohort had I discovered the site that early. My exposure to fantasy was still Percy Jackson, HP, redwall, this weird little series by Hunger games author Suzanne Collins called "Gregor the overlander"(it's pretty awesome!), Tale of Desperaux and a few other random books. I probably wouldn't have been ready to read something like Eternal.

I don't think your second section was too negative, I think it made sense. You do a ton around here, with upkeep, encouragement, and noob corralling, not to mention all the behind the scenes work I probably have no idea about. I totally get what you mean, I can't even imagine how many DMs you must have piled up in your inbox from noobs complaining about the language here. You're definitely stretched thin, and it's hard to focus on everything all at once. That too, with eye strain in the midst of it. But we're all really grateful for everything you do around here, and little Johnny will just have to accept that he needs to work on his forum etiquette on his own. I'm really excited to see your contest entry, as I'm sure many other people are as well. Is it going to be sci-fi like Agent of Order? Love and dating like Inseparable? Or fantasy like Jack the bean counter? Only time will tell.

I definitely can't take full credit for the secret secret santa. When I first received a message from Milton, I was confused until I discovered what was happening, at which point I decided that I might as well make a guessing game out of this anonymous gifter.

Of course, there's no guarantee that this message isn't a ploy to add more chaos and confusion to the mix, who knows.

Wait. You mean, even you don't know who the secret ninja is either? This conspiracy is getting crazier by the minute, even high command is waiting for the reveal. I'm excited for tomorrow, I can't wait for the holiday highwayman to hang up their shroud and reveal their identity for the world.

CYS Monthly Gazette - 8 January 2025

I know who they are now, I just didn't know when the first few unassigned gifts were posted. Though it would actually be more fun if I didn't know but that'll be too difficult from an organisation perspective.

Oh ok, I misinterpreted what you said. got it. It would be really fun, but I can understand how crazy that would get since you need to keep track of who gifted who, and which ones are the actual gifts.

Another great episode! This feels like a real newspaper, with several entertaining interviews, an update of recent events, and lots of interesting segments. And there's MHD art too! I found the line 'AI generated text is prefect in regards to spelling and most grammar' amusing, wonder if that's intentional.

Also, happy belated birthday to Malk and Avery, and happy early birthday to Ninja and Sherb!

man, multiple people looked at that too.  I wish I could say it was intentional.
