Sex in a story?

Hi,

I'm making my first story and part of it will involve sex of some sort.

If you say that the character has sex in the scene (such as the introduction to The Order of the Midnight Sun) and not describe it, is it alright?

Not like, he inserted his *blank* into her *blank* and she moaned pleasurably but more along the lines of, Johnny made love with Jill for quite a while.

Given how you just mentioned a story that did that exact thing, I'd go with yes it's fine. Just make sure it's maturity rating reflects that.

You can basically write about anything you want, as long as you reflect it properly in the Maturity Rating of your story. Please refer to this for more information:

You're not the first and I'm positive you won't be the last. Even Madglee has a steamy scene in "Mommy, can I go out and kill tonight?" so, aside from keeping the rating high enough, if you really want to use caution, toss in a warning in the description, but otherwise, if anyone complains, that's on them. They should read the rating before playin'.

When ever there was a sex scene in a story that i read i found that if it is to long and descriptive then that part of the story will lose focus of the over all feel of the tale. I would just warn to use caution like Kiel, keep it short and simple but use it where it's effects would be most appropriate and most powerful.

Unless you make a storyline about it like Endmaster.

The rule of thumb from what I gathered on here is you shouldn't just write a porn story where the whole storyline is just sex scene after sex scene. You can write the occasional sex scene as long as it make sense in the context of the story (Two lovers finally reunited, protagonist visits a whorehouse, etc.) Just make sure you give it the appropriate maturity rating.

I guess if you really want to cover your bases you can also write a content warning for people on the description page. (Not that anyone will actually pay attention to such warnings!)

I'm actually glad somebody asked this question. Since one of the characters in my story, The Street Children, is a prostitute and I've been worrying about crossing some invisible line... granted, none of her scenes are remotely pornographic... Just... well, very suggestive.

Well, to be honest, Simple... sometimes when you do everything right, people will still criticize. That's a matter of taste and personal conviction. In those times? You just have to be secure in your own work. You already know to give it a high enough rating, I'm sure, and this sort of thing... it's a part of life. Why should there be a line like that if the reader is of the proper age to decide what content they can accept?

Granted, I'm a very... opinionated person and I haven't been in this community long, so I have little concept of how many readers here are of age. It's just my personal policy.

Yeah, I see your point. I just never came across it in the other stories I've read so far on here. Guess I sort of assumed it was a no-no and now that I've seen it here, I know its a matter of rating.

Pretty much the character isn't the main character, she is supportive so the player has little to know control over her. However, since she is a prostitute, she does exhibit a lot of that sort of behavior. I had no problem with disclaiming in the description of the game about drug reference and drug use, which happens to multiple characters throughout the story, but with that particular character it was just more... I guess, disturbing would be the right term?

Well, that's... one of those "your millage may vary" type things.

What you find more disturbing, other people might readily accept. I've honestly know parents who don't give a damn if their teens are out having sex, but if they returned home with drugs,  oh, no. xD There would be hell to pay, apparently. I've also known people who don't care if their kids / friends are doing drugs, just don't bring 'em home or sell them, and it's fine.

Do I share those values? Hell, no. If they were my kids, I wouldn't want them shooting up, getting arrested, or risking STDs, but I have my own set of convictions and those people have theirs.
