Returning to CYS after hiatus/forgetting password

Hi everyone. I used to be Thaedos here on CYS, but after some difficult life events, I went on a long hiatus and couldn't remember my password when I came back. Seeing as there's no password recovery function, I was forced to make a new account. If any of you have an idea as to how I could get access back to my original account, I'd appreciate it. This was my original introduction post if anyone's curious: http://chooseyourstory.com/forums/message.aspx?MessageId=5912

I know all my old information, from my full name to my zip code to the e-mail I signed up with, which I still have access to. It's a real shame I can't just get the site to send me an e-mail with a way to reset my password, but oh well.

I hope to get back into creating stories soon, but I'll wait to hear responses here first, mainly from 3J as I see he's now an admin. I'm also wondering if he (or anyone else) could answer my original question I had when I joined this site. That is, if I write a story here, can I later use that story for a commercial purposes such as a book or game (even just publishing it elsewhere without profit)?

The terms and services suggest this isn't allowed without the permission of HALOGEN STUDIOS, which I assume consists of the people who respond (or don't, seeing as I never got a response from them, ever) to the Contact Us link. It makes little sense to me, so I assume it's meant to keep you from stealing another person's work, but I'd appreciate some official word on the matter. Thanks.

Yeah, dude.  That's an excellent question - if I remember correctly, the creators said something about it not being a problem.  Though, I know that's probably not a good enough answer.  So, hopefully you can get something more solid, but you shouldn't have any problems.  I think one of our oldschool guys has published some of his stuff, but I'm not 100%.  Maybe Madglee or Paul, dun remember.

Aside from that, I think JJJ's the best person to ask for a password recovery kind of thing for any immediate help, if possible.

Thanks for the reply man, I appreciate it. I think you're probably right, but I'll wait and see what others have to say too. In the meantime I'll just work on drafts of my stories in wordpad.

Welcome back Thaedos!

I'm super sorry about my incredibly slow reply, usually I'm much more snappy, I was introducing my girlfriend of a few months to my family for the first time, and it involved some traveling! Next time, I'll post an update on the site about my absence. It's really nice to come back to see that a bunch of things have happened.

Re: Password Recovery, we all want it! The creators of the site (particularly alexp, the only one with access to the actual code behind the site) are on a semi-permanent hiatus and are unable to code anything new in. I don't have the power (which I believe is a good thing) to look at people's passwords, so I can't just go grab it for you, even if I wanted to!

Re: TOS, this is a pretty well known complaint. The strict terms of services are actually there to protect us from outsiders coming in and stealing work that you write here and publishing it as their own. At least, that's vaguely how I remember it being described to me. Send me a private message, and I'll message you back the e-mail for alexp and he can describe it further. Tsmpaul (http://chooseyourstory.com/Member/?Username=tsmpaul) successfully published his story Ulysses and I have it in paperback on my desk beside me. I can say with absolute conviction, that you have nothing to worry about but I completely understand your skepticism.

Again, welcome back! Let me know if you have other questions,
3J

Thanks a lot for the reply 3J, that helps a lot! I'll be sure to send you a PM, as I would like to hear official word from alexp, but you've certainly alleviated most of my fears. I should be able to start working on my stories again. The account loss of isn't a big deal, as I'd only gotten a small portion done before my hiatus. I've been careful to make sure I'll remember my password this time so it won't happen again.

Also message me with the name of your old story on your old account.
