The cooking thread made me sad, I hope this one does the opposite. I put out a call for pies at the end of that one and I've been shown a few even though they didn't get posted. So this thread is for flexing with any baking as well as for discussion of good food you're having, mention chicken nuggets or vile ramen concoctions at your peril.

And of course have a happy Thanksgiving!

My meal today at work : THREE pork pies, TWO sausage rolls, a pot noodle(curry flavour) FOUR YOGHURTS, THREE packets of crisp. You might not like it, but this is the fuel which allows for peak male performance 😎

Not to mention some berries and bananas, might even sneak a steak pasty in if I've got enough time.

When you're saying a pot of noodles that are curry-flavored, are you saying that the noodles are, or the broth/sauce is curry-flavored? I'm assuming it's the latter, but damn, you're eating so well...

Pretty sure it's just the powder they add that Gives the curry flavour. It melts when you put the hot water in, it did come with a sweet mango sauce you have to add yourself though.

So what you're trying to say is that it's the broth.

So you crumpet-stuffing tea garglers just copy us? How dare you eat food today. I won't forget this.

I mean Canada rips off Thanksgiving too but at least not on the exact same day!

That's right. I'm currently buttering a crumpet right now actually AND making a cup of tea. Once my tea is finished and my crumpet crumpeted and BUTTERED up, I'm going to DUNK my buttery crumpet into my cup of tea and EAT IT as an act of spite and rebellion.

I will throw your stupid tea in the ocean, THAT'S how you do rebellion.

British people should be banned from posting in a thread on Thanksgiving.

Currently in Taiwan, so it isn't celebrated, but my program held a dinner at a resteraunt in celebration. It was nice and I had an excuse to dress up, which was fun. I had a burger (American food for Discover America Day), it had deep fried fish on top and a beef patty. It was big and thick, authetnic American expierence.

It's comforting to know that being from the states, no matter where you are in the world, it's usually possible to get a taste of home.

I couldn't get off work today, so I am spending the holiday alone in my currently empty duplex. I will likely manage to eat something horrendous and will, of course, update the site when I do

I've never heard anything good about any food from your state, if it makes you feel better.

Mizal inspired me to make the Arkansas classic: biscuits and chocolate gravy. Brits could never

I still, continue to have never heard anything good about food from that state, thanks for not trying to change that.

Cheese! Cheese I sliced myself!

It's a weird Thanksgiving, considering the circumstances...

I cut some cheese, too!

I made a venison shepherd's pie and a pumpkin apple cheese casserole drizzled with an apple caramel sauce. The shepherd's pie was a little salty for my taste, but easily fixable next time I make it. I was a little concerned about the cheese casserole since I've never made one before (note: making a cheese casserole isn't like making a cheese cake; there's a difference in consistency), but it turned out delicious and I will try to make a cake version of this casserole for Christmas. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

That sounds delicious... my aunt made ratatouille, and it was nice. I didn't know that the name was also a French dish. After reading an article about the food, it makes a lot of sense. (I didn't watch the movie.)

The wife and I made a chocolate raspberry fluff as the inlaws were handling everything else for thanksgiving: turkey and ham, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, a couple gravies, rolls, creamed corn.

On Saturday for my family we will be taking the leftover fluff and cranberry relish and are bringing the rolls. My folks are making the turkey, wilted lettuce, rolls, and green beans. My sister is bringing pies and some other kind of casserole I can't think of.

I made some garlic mashed potatoes and I'm making some upside down pineapple cake for the evening in a couple of hours.

I know upside down pineapple cake isn't a traditional thanksgiving meal, but I dont care sue me.

We're eating at my aunt and uncle's house so they're making the turkey and the staples.

Happy thanksgiving everyone

@TypewriterCat
Are you doing last year's deal with your parents of cooking the entire Thanksgiving feast again?

Oh, I'm surprised you remember that.

I did not have to cook this time, my family decided against exploiting my desire to avoid social interaction. I did make a few Thanksgiving-adjacent dishes at work, though.

For some in between holiday gluttony, I did cook for my parents and little brother the other day, I'm just sorry I didn't think to take pictures.

I made baked chicken breast with a creamy mustard sauce, baby red potatoes, steamed broccoli and carrots, and rolls from frozen dough.

It seemed to go over really well and I think they were surprised I volunteered out of the blue, couldn't really explain it was because I was appalled by a thread on an antiquated internet forum though.

I might do it again before Christmas. I just bought an apple pie this time for dessert but I know I can do better.

What was in the mustard sauce?

It's a Secret Family Recipe but I guess I can tell you.

It's a can of cream of chicken with 1/4 c sour cream added, then a tbs each of dry mustard and jarred mustard, and a little bit of garlic powder and parsley. You can use it on pork chops too which my grandmother does, and probably other things.

I'm looking more into baking things but it's a little overwhelming, there's so many recipes out there that all look so good I don't now where to start.

Forgot that you have to add some water or broth while you're heating it since the cream of chicken is so thick.

Commended by Mizal on 12/6/2024 10:14:09 AM

I remember seeing that post a while back and attempting a pie. It was my first time making one, but I figured that if the saying was 'as easy as pie', how hard could it be?

The result turned out alright, though I somehow spent over an hour and a half making it. This was partly because I decided to debone chicken I had defrosted rather than getting boneless meat, followed the recipe one step at a time, and made soup simultaneously in case I messed up the pie. I really enjoyed it, but I'll only make it again if I have time to spare.

That looks very good, thanks for being willing to experiment for this. And I know you love to overachieve, but keep in mind if you want to try again you always can buy the premade pie crusts in the foil pans. Fruit pies are much simpler of course, although savory pies are a good way to use up odds and ends. Quiche is delicious and pretty quick too, the filling is basically eggs with flour and any random thing you have in your leftovers that week. I've wondered about "easy as pie" too though, I'm pretty sure it was mostly relevant to people who were used to baking bread from scratch ever day. With pie there's no long kneading process and no need to wait for dough to rise, you just roll it out and lay it in a pan.
