For the last two years, I've tended to get lazy during the Summer Reviewing Contest. Therefore, I fully intend to do better next year!

Therefore, I would like to propose a bet for next year's Summer Reading Contest. Keep in mind this bet only applies if (and only if) there is in fact an official Summer Reading Contest, whoever has the authority to accept this bet does so, and I enter it of my own accord (I'm holding out the possibility that I may not enter due to being in a coma, incarcerated, ect).

If I succeed in taking first place INDIVIDUALLY, I get full moderator privileges (with the tacit agreement that I will not grossly abuse them to fuck with people or be a nuisance. Failure to abide by this will result in mod privileges being revoked regardless of the outcome).

If I fail to come in first in the individual rankings (hell, even if I'm a close second)... permanent ban me. This way I can't get around the rules by convincing EndMaster to unban my account after a day or two. (Let's be honest if TIG had somehow won the prompt contest that's exactly what would've happened to everyone who got "banned" as per the bet he took).

Holy shit dude. You're a legend. That is pretty badass. I think the last time someone did this, it was Suranna. You and Suranna are incredibly brave, and this is pretty cool. But be careful, just keep a steady reviewing pace, and be consistent with the reviews. This is a pretty risky bet, but as long as you keep the pace, you should be fine! Also, I'm glad you added the clause where this bet kicks in if you join the contest, since that way, you can join if you have the time and everything is ok in real life. Make sure you'll be able to do it first before joining(we don't want you banned!), and best of luck!

To be fair, I don't entirely expect them to accept this, and the next contest is a long year away.

Also. If I'm being upfront, I did have to edit the post to add in if I win on an individual basis, since I know good and damn well there's a possibility I'd get permabanned if we do teams and I get the individual prize but my team comes in second.

To be honest, I'm doing this mostly to motivate myself and others. I can think of a few people who would gleefully churn out reviews for the chance to be the one to get me off the site.

That's true. I guess it all depends on the mods' discretion.

And yeah, I think you would want to try individually.

I'm going to get lots of reviews done in the next contest, not because I want you to get banned, but to try and win Will's trophy and because reviewing is fun. But now, it looks like things are a bit complicated. But I guess we'll all have to try our best and, even though I'll be competing with you next year, I'm still rooting for you to win the bet because it's admirable that you'll take on such a difficult challenge with these incredibly high stakes.

I do kind of love how RK just assumed without question that this would be accepted too and became all concerned with giving him advice.

Ben is free to off himself at any time but doesn't get to attach demands to it, especially ones that would be massively unfair to other users and establish a precedent that that's just something anyone can do.

The intent to spend the year stockpiling reviews also is kinda obvious, he's not even the first one to have suggested cheating this week.

Surprisingly that last part didn't even occur to me. I figured if my "life" was on the line, it'd motivate me to actually get off my ass and put in consistency.

In hindsight, I can see people cheating, either with stockpiling or with AI (Daiki, Abge). Also, as I told RK above, I didn't really see this being accepted, but I figured I'd shoot my shot.

It will be interesting to see if anyone remembers this thread in a year.

I think "A fagful gaymbut" would be a little redundant since both words essentially mean the same thing. "Gaybit" sounds cool.

Ben, the motivation to win has to be intrinsic. You can't just push yourself to win in order to be a mod, that's stupid and nobody will allow that. The win is all the motivation you should need. Revise the bet to only include the punishment and death, and I'm sure it will be received better.

This is against the rules of CYS account gambling.

When you petition the mods to keep track of your bet, you don't get to ask them for an unusual reward. (Unless, of course, it's at the expense of a rival who has also entered the bet, because funny) You pretty much only get to request an unusual punishment. Baldfaced self-harm for the amusement of the masses is the heart of this tradition. Either you can find motivation in this alone, or you'll have to look elsewhere.

I'm reminded of an obscure czech shitpost doom mod where the protagonist spends the first level entertaining himself by sitting in his apartment smashing himself in the sack with a claw hammer. You keep the hammer for the whole rest of the game, it goes in your chainsaw slot. It has absolutely no benefit, it just deals like 5-10 damage to you. Your character smashes his balls with a hammer because his motivations are pure. So too must the heart of the Cystian be when they quest for glory.

As someone who would likely co-host next year's Summer Reading contest, I'd say the confidence is admirable but unfortunately that's not how it works. My personal view is that the skill set required to be a mod is a very different one from winning contests. It would not be a good precedent to set if any very good writer or quick reviewer could gain mod status just by betting their account and winning. As you pointed out, the only reason TIG's deal was 'accepted' was because banning wouldn't be permanent even if he did somehow win.

In addition to the good points you made about the entire problem with people simply betting their accounts and winning. Mizal also made a good point about the likelihood of some noob betting their accounts and then cheating to win (Daiki would actually be a strong example here).
