This is some 20 questions dealio where it guesses what character you're thinking of. At first, I went easy on it and guessed Peter Pan, but then I guessed Hazama Masayoshi, Ippo, even Punpun for chrissake-- MR.SPENDER FROM PARANATURAL FOR CHRISSAKE-- and it's never wrong.

Well, it is wrong sometimes. I once thought of Steamboat Willie, and it didn't even have him down.

Actually it's not always right, I answered Don't Know to every question and it never worked out who my character was :) It's pretty good at mainstream characters but not so good for insignificant historical or fictional characters, it took 32 questions to get William the Conquerer. Obviously it uses Wikipedia or has a massive online database but I'm pretty sure if I thought of my cousin Darren it could ask a million questions and never get to him because Darren's never done anything interesting :)

It's a Mechanical Turk system... or it used to be. Crowdsourced, with people adding characters it missed.

It will sometimes guess things like "someone you know in real life" or "not thinking of a person, just answering 'no' to every question."

I believe the database it's using is the responses of previous players.  If it initially doesn't know someone, you can teach it to get the answer fairly quickly.  

That's quite a clever AI system, learning by trial and error. It reminds me of the line "insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results" (possible definition of stupidity?). Is there other stuff like Akinator on the Net?

It's not an A.I. It uses a pathing system:

A specific set of A - B - C- D - E - F - G - H - I - J - K - L - M - N - O (etc.) results in X character. If it doesn't lead to anything, people can add to it's database.

I tried doing that.  The first time, he had no clue what I was talking about, the second time, it was the goddamn teleporter from TF2. I mean, I can understand the Sandvich, but maybe if he spent more times asking about the character instead of wasting 3 questions asking whether or not it was fictional, he would've been marginally closer.

Lol. Yeah I find that when he gets the first guess is wrong he ends up going back and asking the same questions. He even figured out I was from Portal at one point... Then he guessed the cube... After already knowing that I was a food type

EDIT: I was snooping about its app when I stumbled upon an option that let you make characters. So now, Max is an available option on my device. So I retried and he actually got Maximus.

It got a few of the really obvious ones right, but pick someone a little more obscure and watch it flail around. The questions aren't selected intelligently at all. Like, why ask me both 'are they a real person' and 'are they fictional', and once I had it ask me if they'd been dead for more than a 100 years and then immediately follow up wanting to know if they were from a different time period.

I'm not sure why I always get asked 'are they a youtuber' right after saying they're a real person since it seems like narrowing down the time period would be the more pertinent question.

And of course if you tell it you're thinking of a woman who is a real person, you'll invariably be asked if she's a pornstar.

Well, you have to consider the userbase that Akinator attracts, since that's what teaches it how to do things. They're probably mostly either pre/early teens who heard abut this shit from their friends (Which would mean they'd constantly think of youtubers and anime characters and shit like that.) or, like most websites without real communities, lonely, sexually frustrated individuals looking for ways to vent their lustrations. (Which would mean they'd constantly think of youtubers and anime characters and shit like that.) Besides, how many pornstars* can you name off the top of your head? They don't often get very especially famous, so picking out a pornstar is a valid tactic when trying to successfully stump the Akinator... Unfortunately, the implications aren't all that great...

*Not counting joke names you've made up for yourself in case you ever get into the business... We all do that, right?

Well, unless they are a human consciousness uploaded to a computer, then it's rather impossible for them not to also be an animal. I guess Aki was trying to rule out androids.

Hurray! I actually thought of a character that Akinator didn't have on their database at all! And from now on, thanks to me, Akinator should be able to figure it out if anybody ever guesses Hap-pea from the Poddington Peas. I have made the world a better place. ^_^

Apparently, being from Poland and throwing a boomerang are among the differences between Batman and Batman '66.

He has some random logic when it comes to obscure characters. I remember one line of questions that ended up like this:

Is your character real? - Yes

Is your character an actor? - Yes

Is your character from Australia? - Yes

... Something's not quite right here. 

It's obviously trying to show you that you shouldn't be thinking in terms of binary gender narratives in relation to Australian actors.

Mwhahahahaha. I defeated it. It guessed a characer on the same TV show, and I gave it two more chances to guess after that, and it never got it right. (The closest it got was guessing Sammual Jackson from SG1/Stargate Atlantis, instead of Dr. Meredith Rodney Mckay. And it wasn't on any of the lists that it gives you at the end.)

Every time this gets linked to I point out that you can find @endmaster given enough time.

Next he guessed Banksy the famous street artist for some reason. I said no. He suggested a list of random youtubers (also Dr Seuss for some reason), I said no. I typed in Endmaster and... He didn't show up on their database... Well that was a waste of bloody time >.<

Why in none of these images you've all conjured up of Endmaster can he not be wearing a bra? Would he not be just as manly and intimidating? Perhaps he does so because he's the only man alive that can still look intimidating in a bra and for that we should admire him even more. ^_^
