Yesterday, I hit the four year mark of my time here at CYS. ^^

I've seen this place go through a lot of ups and downs. Contests, fan invasions, parades of trolls, bad stories, epic role plays, mountains of in-jokes, fights. I've won some, I've lost some and I've learned a lot. I've seen new members establish themselves in big ways and old vets hang up their hats and move on.

Over all, I've had some great moments here and made friends with some amazing people, so while I can't say it's always been fun, it's absolutely been worth it. I love this place.

So, thanks for joining me on this crazy ride, fellow CYStians. I hope we have many more years together and that, no matter what, they'll be filled with experiences to cherish. Cheers.

Kiel, you've been a fantastic member of the site the entire time, you've written some great stories, been a terrific member of the forums and done much, much more. I've very grateful for the past four years, be it what I was around for or what I wasn't, and I hope to have you around the site in the future.

Yeah. It's like you're reading the beginning of the post and it's so touching that it seems as if the writer is going to leave, but the very last sentence always is like "I hope to continue..." or "I will be here..."

Then I guess neither of you are accustomed to these kinds of speeches. 

I don't think anybody is. Most people start off like "It's so cool that I'm so awesome. LOVE ME." Then end like you did.

I remember him joining The Villagers Round 3 a while ago, and he also joined Seth's RP Mikazuki Island. Not to mention he probably joined some before Commander.

Yeah, and aside from that, I was in two mafia style RPs, I did two RPs with Thinslayer based on Fate Stay Night, I joined two other RPs which both had a rebirth theme (one was more tech based, and had my pirate captain character, another had a fire demon,) one post apocalyptic story, one military based, and also a ... Clue based game, I think? It was ATY's? I RPed as Hikari for that one. 

So ... actually, I've RPed a fair bit here, it's just that most of the RPs I've joined died out quickly, barring that one with my pirate persona, that lasted like, four threads.

Anyway, it's gotten to the point where I just sort of expect everything to die and rarely join--I couldn't resist joining Seth's, though. The vibe of the concept really appeals to me.

Choco, solo, and Alexp are others to hold in highest regards and reverence.

It's been proposed before, (he is popular and a lot of people respect his writing) but while I'm sure he wouldn't turn down the position, he's never specifically asked or offered to my knowledge. Plus, there's more to it than just being respected or talented. Besides, do you guys really want him to be too busy to write stories? He's contributed a lot as a writer. 

I fear for the power that he will be given.

Yay! That's awesome. The fact that someone can stick around on a website for so long is truly amazing! You have done so much for the site! You've made awesome games, and you even became a mod! While I have only been on CYS for 14 short months, it's changed so much. Many eras have come and gone. The Pudding-Spork War, the WC hordes, the site reforms, and the trolls are just a few of the events. I hope you will stay president for another term an awesome mod and member for many years to come.

Other than being active, you seem to be the mod with the best judgement. So I respect that.

Without Kiel, I imagine we'd be in some kind of dystopian parallel world where everything is burning in flames, and warrior cat fan fiction reigns supreme.

...but the WC was destroyed before Kiel was a mod. That was by JJJ. And it was the other mods that got rid of the trolls who were flaming everything, again, before kiel was a mod.

You still see warrior cat stuff pop up from time to time. There was one a week back or so I believe? I wasn't around much between a few years ago and when it was banned, but I'm happy to see it taken down right away. You need active mods to handle things as they happen, to hold up the foundation that all the people who came before built up. Keeping the peace so the fires don't ever start, can be as important as putting out the flames after they've happened.

Believe me, Taco, there are always more trolls and WC fans. Y'all just don't always get to see them because we tend to keep them pretty well contained, but a large amount came through here just shortly after I started. Brennon, the incident with Beardon's friends, Mizal's friends, your regular flamers and porn posters, duel cheaters, spammers, exc, exc.

I don't believe we've met. I apologize that this'll be our first interaction, since I try to stay upbeat. Interesting thing. I'm just some fool, who enjoys writing, rambling, science fiction, music and other stuff. I have an opinion like anyone else. That doesn't make it more or less special. It's words. Some people will agree or disagree with them. I state what I feel is true, and gladly admit when I'm wrong. The thing is though, I'll probably publish a few storygames, speak my mind some, then I may disappear as quickly as I appeared. Most people do that. I've never given anything substantial to the community, let alone barely been active in it. There's a lot of people here who've given years, many years, of their lives to being with this community. 

If you've ever put any kind of time into help managing a site or forum, it's a much bigger a commitment than simply clicking a few delete buttons and hanging out. The majority of the garbage that happens is stuff the average user wont see, because: the mods are doing their job. Often times they're specifically targeted because of their job. They log in every day, throughout the day, and don't get to focus on their writing, because they're caught up making the environment good for others to write instead. It truly is a thankless job, as further confirmed by your response to this thread. 

If we want to get technical, then Birthday parties are incredibly selfish too. Amongst other celebrations. Everyone is born, everybody has a Birthday. Why is it so special? It's not. It's just some cheap excuse to get praise, have people suck up to you, and give you free stuff for a day, right? Not really. People like something to celebrate, to be happy over. To celebrate positive occasions with others. To see others succeed or be in a good mood. While it may seem like otherwise, this is not an entirely selfish world. People do not always do something, or want to share something fun with others, for some kind of self-gain. There's certainly people out there who are very self-absorbed. However you're looking in the wrong thread for it.

Because of what admins and mods on this site do, I can sit here in my own little world, and write nonsense without worry since they've got it under control. And I have great fun doing it. Speaking of which, I should get back to it. Because they've got it handled fine without me saying anything more.

The guy who derails writing threads with his tank and gun obsession is yes, a guy. And everyone was insulting him. That thread was solid gold. (I've actually been thinking of archiving all Bucky and End's blurbs and the Kingdom of Cystia stuff somewhere, so it doesn't get buried. Same goes for quiller's Writing Prompt thread, because that had some amazing output from bilbo and iavatus, Steve, and others.)  

I'm still unsure what the term 'troll' even means the way Cystians use it, honestly. A guy who in just a few months here wrote several fantastic entries for writing prompt threads, won art from the_quiller, made a lot of progress on a game, helped newbies with technical questions, did extensive beta reading for three entries in the last contest, participated in a collab project, and pretty much has contributed to the site a lot more than, you know..a guy with a name reminiscent of a Warrior Cat, who had a full year head start on him (just as a random example) is dismissed as 'pfft, just a troll' because he got in an argument with a mod?  

Which, you know, up until now has never, ever been a thing people got banned for.  Much like all the other stuff going on this last month or so mods didn't used to just casually do.

I dunno if Ivy's been officially classified as a troll, but I thought he was banned for randomly being a huge dick.

Yes, but to say "Death to America!" is an ideological opinion in that it's the slogan for an Anti-American ideological position, and one that's not particularly bad given that this site has much worse.

You know, you're not exactly standing on firm ground when you have to justify your actions by comparing them to someone else's, especially not when the comparsion is, "Well, at least they were worse!". I mean, you still get arrested for mugging people these days, and I'm sure there's been at least one guy who said, "I could've stabbed them and not taken their money, but at least I didn't do either of those".

The comparison is to people who aren't penalized for their ideological positions, even though their ideological positions are morally worse than mine.

They'd probably be penalized now, had the mod whodunnit been around at the time and in the mood to push the mod buttons. Or not. The mods here aren't exactly anime-protagonist-cliche-#5-level dedicated to any personal policy or interpretation. The point was made when it was made, that in a general sense it conflicts with what 3J's guidelines were, however hypocritical it may be compared to the past or the future.

Not true. Kiel himself says that saying you hate America and/or their policies isn't against the rules, and there's been supporters of things like shooting children for attempting to border-cross, animal fucking and other stuff that happened with Kiel around.

Kiel isn't the one who penalized you, is he? Every mod really seems to have their own interpretation of what the rules are. You shouldn't say, "Death to America" whenever whoever it was is around, because to them, that's a penalizing offense. You shouldn't interject a serious conversation/debate with Madglee with inane jokes, because to him, that's bannable. You should maintain only one account, unless you don't have to. You should refrain from challenging the mods, until you don't have to. Had Kiel been a mod in Berka's place, 80-90% of "The Great Forum Purge" wouldn't have happened.

Kiel doesn't think it's against the rules, but whoever penalized you does/did. 3J said shit would be enforced in the spirit of the rules, and not in the literal sense, so that means the mods are forced to make incredibly subjective decisions.

He is, he's said as much. He also said I was spamming it, which was simply not true. I'd imagine he would've said it wasn't him if it wasn't as well as this. Anyhow, although there was comical exaggeration to the message behind "Death to America!", there's a genuine point and message behind it, and I stand by it, and I wasn't interjecting into a "serious conversation/debate", it was just a general, open forum. I do maintain only one account, and I think that's a pretty odd statement from someone known to make humerous alts. Saying we shouldn't challenge the mods is retarded, because they make mistakes like anyone else, and even then I didn't challenge Kiel or even care about it, others brought it up and I defended myself. If we're going to start saying that someone having a different ideological position to a mod who doesn't like it is grounds for penalizing someone, there's no possible hope for this site.

That's not what I'm saying. I was referring to Coins' banning when I stated that. Coins was being venomous and trolling in general, but none of the mods at the time, (Which, IIRC, only Berka and Madglee were active at the time) and the rules weren't clearly defined. There were the first guidelines, (Which included such antiques as "No swearing" and "Keep your forum content PG-13".) and the only basis Madglee had for banning Coins was for calling Playa a Pothead every other post when Playa and Madglee were discussing marijuana use. Again, the other mod didn't see this as a problem, just annoying. Being annoying, in that particular instance, at that particular time of day, was against the rules. Then it took several shit threads and a whole PM scandal to get Brennon banned, rather than just being banned as an annoying twat.

Likewise, I was PMed after making my first ever Alt to maintain only one account. Pre-mod Berka was very vocal about how using other accounts to impersonate people breaches forum ettiquette, and Madglee gave everyone a serious warning after one breach in particular. Then there were several Sentinels, and then there multiple Mardoxes, and then there were hundreds of Kiels, and then the mods didn't particularly care about them.

Other people have repeatedly told the mods to fuck off in similar ways to Iavatus, and were banned for other reasons.

The Law itself is very broad, very blunt, and made of rubber. The interpretation of the mods is the only thing that has any gravity to it.

I can't speak for Coins banning, but bringing up examples other than me being penalized is irrelevant. Kiel said that me holding anti-American positions was OK, yet still deducted points from me for "spamming", which I didn't do. Sure, there's a level of interpretation, but to say that we're at a point where having opinions other to the mods will get us penalized is to announce the end of the site. I didn't make multiple accounts, or tell the mods to fuck off, or do anything to deserve penalizing. You bringing up other occasions of people being banned or penalizing has nothing to do with this.

Again, that's not the point I'm trying to make. The point is that the rules are not concrete and the law is as the law does. The mods make very subjective decisions based on their subjective defiinitions of things. According to the definitions of other websites, we "spam" and "troll" to degrees that would render 90% of the users banned by most admins. Here, it's much different. It's difficult to discern what trolls or spammers even are without listing specific examples. It's also difficult to explain people's individual offenses without the mod responsible explaining it, which makes it look a lot like somebody just felt like banning Ivy for yelling at Kiel that day, which is what I was saying. Cynical got into a few scuffles with the mods on multiple occasions, and I'm either de-sensitized or he was being just as edgy and obnoxious/vindictive about it. Ivy did this once and got banned, because that's how the mods were feeling and that was their judgment. I'm guessing it was probably because this scuffle had a more bizarrely personal bent than Cyn's, but I honestly have very few ideas as to what got him thwacked. My point has little to do with your penalty in specifics, unless it's compared to other penalties, which also don't have any point on their own.

If your point has little to do with my penalty, you shouldn't have brought it up. the comparison was made because there's positions that are WAY worse than mine, and if the law is seriously stretching to such an insane degree that it's whatever the mods want, then the entire system is broken. We don't have rules deviating to such an extreme that what I did was in anyway deserving of being penialized. if we're entering a system where it's just the mods doing whatever they feel like, than this entire site is broken, and we shouldn't be on it anymore.

I'm saying the mods' judgements are subjective, so what you think is spam might not have been what Kiel thought was spam at the time. The point that there are way worse people who haven't been punished is moot because mods either weren't around at the time, or their interpretation of the rules didn't deem them worthy of penalty when that was happening.

Kiel was around for the other times, so that's not true. There was no way someone could interpret what I said as spam without interpreting half the things in the forums as spam, and that didn't happen.

Also, while I said you are allowed to personally hate a country, (how you feel is your own business) and while you are allowed to talk about hating their policies, (because that's just your political convictions) I'm still not actually okay with people yelling "death to (country)!" even if it's only once.

You did use an exclamation, which implies yelling. Though, that seems like it's kind of a nitpick either way. 

Assuming you mean the states and not the continent, America is a country, and the Americans (you did say your slogan was meant to be anti-American, which would imply the residents as well) are people. Capitalism is merely a system of government. I don't consider the two comparable.

Yes, but capitalism is an idea, and it's only known as an idea. You're only advocating for killings if you say "Death to Capitalists".  America is an idea, but it's also a country, and someone can easily come to think that's you're talking about a country when you're saying that.

Someone could also come to think that death to capitalism was a threat again set the ideological  group that supported it, and really I don't see how the fact someone could misunderstand my point means i should be penalized for it.

That's fairly different. People don't live in capitalism, so it's death to an idea and nothing else. People live in a country called America, so while you may hate the idea of America, or the land itself, or whatever, and not the people, "Death to America" without any awareness or dissection can be easily misconstrued as advocating for the death of Americans.
