Hey, all. Seth and I still need more beta readers (people to proof read and play-test, before anyone unfamiliar with the term asks) to sign up for the School-Based Contest.
If you sign up, you'll be randomly assigned to a competitor (perhaps more than one, if we cannot get enough beta readers to have it be 1:1) and if you're able to fulfill your obligations in assisting your assigned competitor, you will be rewarded for your hard work. (With points. I'll determine how many according to your workload.)
Note: Yeah, I removed the links for the individual stories, I'll just let you guys work with your authors about getting into their games. Most people here don't really need the link anyway because you know how to access the games regardless. Please do not co-author with your beta because this is not a co-author challenge. They're assigned to test your game and inform you of mistakes, not to edit or write for you.
The current list of stories, authors, and assignments:
A Knight's Duty
California Death School
High School High Life
Jeggings and Necklaces
LabRynth: Season of Blood
Presently Untitled (Entry in the School Category Contest)
Rings of Stone
Steel and Glass
The End School
The Rules of Murder
The School Of Magic
(Ford is also writing a story, but he's already been taken care of. *puts a muddy shovel away casually*)
So far, the people who have agreed to beta are:
So there currently are only 4 people for 14 stories right now... that would be 3-4 stories for each user. Damn
I plan to pitch in if needed and take whatever projects no one else is able to do. Also, Tim just offered.
Hey, I said I would Beta as well.
Do I need to go through a screening process or something? O.O
Added, my phone was just being mean.
BE MINE TIM
Ah-ah. No picking.
...sounds, uh.... kinda rapey, m8...
I like the titles of Mizal, Cynical, Wibbon and EW so far.
Looking forward to reading, if assigned.
A'ight. Can't wait to see what story shall face my wrath.
A steak? Sure, as soon as you buy a plane ticket to Arizona, bud.
Signing up to be the alpha beta. Or gamma, I'm not picky.
I guess I'll fulfill my namesake.
When I saw this thread, my first thought was to nominate you.
I volunteer as tribute beta!
EDIT: As betas, will there a limit to how much we can help the author? Can we only help with fixing gameplay/writing error or can we give deeper advice than that?
EDIT EDIT: And as contestants, are we only allowed to get our betas to play/give feedback on our storygames before publishing?
I am not allowing writers to be betas. You guys have enough to do on your own projects. Mm... I don't have a problem with other people offering feedback in the writing workshop threads, but ... the thing that would bug me about that, and about Betas doing more than just pointing out errors, is if someone tries to get a large chunk of their plot from somebody else. I'm iffy about preplayers beyond the betas, so... let's see what Seth thinks?
@Sethaniel - additional play testers, yes / no? And any input on the feedback thing?
Still need more people.
I'll be one.
Would you guys be willing to beta more than one game if necessary? If so, how many?
I'll do up to three.
3-5, depending on schedule.
I can do up to two.
Preferably I would like to do two, but I'll do three if it's necessary.
Three is a nice round number.
Gah! *lifts sleep mask*
I'd do maybe two. Depends on my schedule.
I'd preference to stay at two unless they are short entries, could prob do 3 short ones.
@DerpBacon - You're the only one who hasn't answered, brah.
You sure you weren't using any subtle suggestion for us to beta-read mizal's story? Jeez, I know she's bad, but not THAT bad.
Do you assign what stories the beta's will read, or will they be allowed to see which story they want to read?
It's going to be random. Otherwise it's likely to tip in the favor of popular authors / members.
I am doing the beta assignments right now, but if anyone else is willing to jump in and lighten my load or that of the other betas, it would be appreciated.
Ah. Damn, I'd really like to see a story from you, but I also know you're a great beta... >_>' mrrrr... you sure?
Your assignments are up, please check the OP, and thank you very much for your participation.
You will be rewarded for your efforts at the end of the contest, (provided you actually get the chance to make said efforts, a couple of those entries only have a few pages and may not make it to submission) please discuss schedules with your authors individually as I am not privy to the times when you or they are available.
Tag didn't work.
Awesome. Good luck, I'll be waiting to read.
Hi @Claw2k11 and @GMB13carat ! I'm happy to be your betas. I'll get to reading them when you're ready. You're both great writers!
Still haven't received info from either of you! Respond!
HIT ME UP WHEN U GOOD FAM
Are you shitting me?
C'mon, Mason's not THAT bad...
I'm feeling sorry for Mason on this one! XD
Mason was a beta for one of Steve's games. So he's not that bad.
Smh My God. The things Mason was forced to deal with...
No, but I'll be honest, I laughed out loud when the random roll paired you two up. :P
It was. It was the first match up I got, I think. xD Fate just couldn't wait to see this go down, I guess.
Possible inspiration for a TOF ending? The jar and strange redhead demon get engaged and live the rest of their lives together?
OH HELLLLL NOOOOOOO
We are bound together for life now.
Yes, I saw this.
*cackles* xD ... You know what, I seriously might do a nod to that.
He's the beta you deserve.
But not the one she needs!
Hmm....Skugga, Bilbo, and.....*shudders*, Mizal.
Well....this will be interesting :D
Whenever you're ready.
LOL, there's not even enough to beta test at this point. And if I even manage to finish this it'll probably be RIGHT at the deadline.
Not ready. I think I might need to burn the the half baked piece of shit that I have written so far. I don't think anyone likes half baked shit. Although, I'm not sure that anyone likes burned shit either. Oh well, I'll let you know
Don't forget magical foxes! (Though anything fluffy and magical is just fine)
What did James make you say?
Nothing. mizal confessed her love for magical furries in the spirit thread.
I'm going to check that out RIGHT NOW.
I volunteer as a tribute to be a beta reader :)
Hey, my Beta is Betaband. I love it. Also, what is a Beta?
Edit: Aw fuck, I see Beta already made that joke. Well shit, now I feel like a bummer.
A Beta is an individual who plays an unpublished storygame, usually to give feedback to the author. It is derived from "Beta-Tester", a term used in the gaming community as a title for players who do the same for an unreleased game.
Beta may also refer to:
Well, I think that most of these betas are going to end up saddled with most of the work from shitty authors who try to push the burden on others.
That's why co-authoring with anyone except me is not allowed. So betas cannot edit.
No exceptions. No editing your story, Ford.
Is it? :P
Don't you mean debetable?
*Buh dum tssss*
"BradinCYS" Is filmed in front of a live studio audience.
How does this beta stuff work?
Ok, I want to beta test
Alright. I'll give you one of my projects as my participation as beta was really conditional to whether or not we had enough people. (Now I can finally work on my storygames again! Muwahaha...!)
@3173v3 - meet your new beta, @corgi213
Also, @Nazhfa - you have been assigned to @Timeless_Sakura per your request to pitch in.
Thanks again for your participation.
Gosh, this was 25 days ago and I haven't seen it until now. I'm doomed, aren't I? xD Spoken like a true optimist...
