Cool! New thread!
"I have a dream."
I feel like everyone knows this quote, but in a quote thread you need it.
" 'One day, you′ll leave this world behind So live a life you will remember' "
- The Nights, by The Wellermen
This is Avicii you uncultured swine!
Really? I didn't know that they were who made it. After listening to it, though, I still prefer The Wellerman's version.
*Overly long pause*
"Never, ever, ever, give up."
*walks away*
-Winston Churchill
A quote from Winston Churchill? I think I saw the name mentioned somewhere before.
EDIT: Fun fact, I learned both of my quotes from school. It's not totally bombing my education.
I'm sorry, I don't think I understand.
Even MLK was a huge womanizer. This is definitely known.
There's been some other shit that's come out about him though, but it's one of those things where you sort of have to make your own judgment call that he was just fucking around on his wife all the time or he was approaching freak level with the sex shit.
Nowhere near Diddy level of course, but there's a bit going on that he knew about some rape shit that his fellows were involved with and not only did he not try to stop it, he was egging them on.
Is it true or is it just the FBI making up shit? Well again that's what you gotta decide, along with if something like this cancels out all the other stuff he did.
Basically the rape thing was another FBI spy job. Here's a bit of it.
Guess more might be mentioned of it in a couple years.
"That's one small step for a man, a giant leap for mankind." -Neil Armstrong
that's my quote for today. I want to do one a day, I wonder when I'll run out...
“All through my life I've had this strange unaccountable feeling that something was going on in the world, something big, even sinister, and no one would tell me what it was." "No," said the old man, "that's just perfectly normal paranoia. Everyone in the Universe has that.
- Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Why are people taking so many quotes from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? I know some parts are kinda good, but I'd think we'd get some more variety. Not blaming anyone of anything, don't take it the wrong way.
I did. Well, listened to it.
It's just an adiobook... I like to listen to them while I draw.
Oh. And "Oh avo"? That sounds condescending but I'm sure that's unintentional.
I'm not offended at all.
No prob. When people say Oh, [insert name] it's usually in a bad way which is why I mentioned it.
"When you said that you hate yourself, it made me want to tell you all the wonderful things I know about you." - Rem
"On the plains of hesitation bleach the bones of countless millions who, at the dawn of decision, sat down to wait, and waiting died."
- George W. Cecil
"if you are going through hell, keep going" Winston Churchill
I'm not a huge churchill fan or anything, it's just that most of the quotes I know come from him.
“Many of my movies have strong female leads- brave, self-sufficient girls that don't think twice about fighting for what they believe with all their heart. They'll need a friend, or a supporter, but never a savior. Any woman is just as capable of being a hero as any man.” - Hayao Miyazaki
"If you want something done right, do it yourself." -Charles-Guillaume Étienne
Well, I feel like I've exhausted The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, so time to move on to another book!
“Being human totally sucks most of the time. Videogames are the only thing that make life bearable.”
- Ernest Cline, Ready Player One
I like ready player one. Is there a ready player two? I think there is.
We don't talk about ready player two. What ready player two? It doesn't exist. I have no clue what you are talking about!
What, is it bad?
In my opinion, it is a steaming pile of... male cow excrement... compared to the original. The first book didn't need a sequel in the first place, and while a second one might have worked out if it was done well, this one was not. It's like Pacific Rim, from what little I know about the original and sequel movies.
Whenever someone makes a good book and attempts a series, it always seems to go badly. Every time, as far as all the books I've read.
“Akane really is a sweet girl. She’s just a violent maniac.” – Kasumi Tendo
“For a bunch of hairless apes, we've actually managed to invent some pretty incredible things.”
"People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day."
"Genius is one percent inspiration; ninety-nine percent perspiration." - Thomas Edison
This is such a good movie. I was watching it last night.
"Bring us... a Shrubbery!"
“That there was nothing so wrong in the world that we couldn’t sort it out by the end of a single half-hour episode (or maybe a two-parter, if it was something really serious).”
Somehow missed a golden quote from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so I'll put it in here to make up for the lack of a quote yesterday.
“I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.”
- Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt: Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time
"Oh.. oh... oh dear. I think I am about to do something evil again." - Kasumi Tendo
"Those that drink their pee, don't know what they're doing."
“Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.”
“Some humans would do anything to see if it was possible to do it. If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.”
- Terry Pratchett, Thief of Time
"Your actions constitute severe violations of many local ordinances and national laws... Not to mention several international treaties and the Android Rights Act of 1978. Ever consider a career in cataclysm management? Lemme buy you a beer." - Masamichi
“It could be that your purpose in life is to serve as a warning to others.”
Forgot to do one yesterday, so I'll post two.
“There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.”
- Oscar Levant
“Deadlines just aren't real to me until I'm staring one in the face.”
- Rick Riordan, The Lightning Thief
"A flaw of modern Republicanism is that decisions can't be made unless it is a matter of life and death." - Shinei Nouzen
On that note:
"You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
- Harvey Dent
" 'You should always welcome being proven wrong,' Jason said. 'It means your understanding of the world just got a little bit better.' "
- Shirtaloon, He Who Fights with Monsters 2
Found another Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy quote!
Don't mind me, just pushing down the italics...
“The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be.”
"Death comes for us all, Oroku Saki, but something much worse comes for you... for when you die, it will be... (falling sound, screaming) without honor." (crushing sounds)
-Master Splinter
Not entirely sure how I missed so many quotes from this book, lol.
“The Guide says there is an art to flying", said Ford, "or rather a knack. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.”
- Douglas Adams, Life, the Universe and Everything
I forgot that part XD
Then shouldn't success be throwing yourself at faliure and missing? (Don't take this seriously, trying to fail will make you fail)
“Don't Panic.”
You can't tell me what to do, I'm already panicking!
Missed another day, so here are two quotes again.
pushing down the italics...
“A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.”
- Douglas Adams, Mostly Harmless
“A learning experience is one of those things that says, 'You know that thing you just did? Don't do that.”
Italics:
Begone!
“The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them. To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.”
- Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
"Italics, Begon!" UD.
"I like smashing mobs. Don't quote that." BionicLMAO (that's a youtuber, a specific one of his channels)
“To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem.”
“Nothing travels faster than the speed of light, with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws.”
"So long and thanks for all the fish." - Douglas Adams
"All the dolphins have moved on." - A Perfect Circle, in the song, "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish."
No
Italics
“I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies: 1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works. 2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it. 3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.”
Missed the weekends, so I'll be posting three today.
(I'll post the next two over the course of the day.)
“It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.”
Here's the second quote:
(I'll put the third one at around dinner time.)
“There are some people you like immediately, some whom you think you might learn to like in the fullness of time, and some that you simply want to push away from you with a sharp stick.”
- Douglas Adams, The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul
And the third, and thus final, quote for today:
"That's all, folks!"
- Porky Pig, from the show Looney Tunes
Something weird going on with the main page. I don't know if it's your tags or mine, but it's merged our posts, so I'm writing this for no reason at all. Other than to put paragraph tags.
No clue what these are, but at least it's helping solve the problem.
It is kinda fun to read. Although I do cringe inwardly at how frequently swear words are used in such little space.
The front page font glitches really should be fixed sometime though.
Did you change it yourself, someone else did, or petros posted it that way to someone else?
This and the last one are variations.
Lol! I like this one the most!
XD these are what petros said to me in the old abandoned thread.
Oh yeah, that's right, lol. I thought it sounded similar.
This one is quite good too
Canadian politness force
XD
Definitely going to have to use this sometime. I really like passive-aggressive things, and only medieval times can top it in terms of quotes/monologues.
Oooo. Gonna have to check that out later, thanks for the link!
My daily quote for the day:
"These are all over the internet. There are a bazillion versoins." By Fluxion.
versoins XD
I do want to point out that it's quite interesting that Avo can't resist any sort of conversation that goes on within threads. I'm not complaining, mind you. In fact, I think it's quite... wholesome? That's the best term I can think of right now.
I was going to write more, but I lost my train of thought, lol. Maybe it will show up later and I'll finish it.
Sorry :(
Oh no, I'm not angry/sad/annoyed*. In fact, I like to chat as well, so I get it. Keep on doing what you like to do!
Really need to work on not overusing words, lol
Overusing? Also, this is twice now that you've replied to yourself instead of editing the past one. Not that I'm saying I have a problem with it, there are just people that don't appreciate it. Er, don't like it.
Really? huh. I did a [insert the name of whatever user did/does that quite often. I forgot their name, lol] !
Huh? Is it like when people use cel or bezro as a verb, people who've got a reputation?
The people's names being used having a reputation is what I'm suggesting, not the people using the words.
I think? It's basically just saying that you did something that someone else is really well known for doing. For instance, if someone constantly rolls a nat 1 on d20s, and they're called "Bob," then if someone else also rolls a nat 1 a few times in a row, it's common for them to say "I did a Bob!"
Ok... but who's Bob?
Why, he's the great sky god who saved the Deltans from extinction! All hail the Boooooooooooooooooooooooooob! (Pronounced Bob, but drawn out)
(Sorry for the very niche reference; it was hard to resist.)
In reality, it's just a common placeholder name that I used for this example.
Oh. My favorite placeholder name is Bobby Jr. and yes I know it's random.
Yes!!! Finally, I have met someone else who has read it! I personally have listened to the entire series on Audible, and I highly recommend reading up to Heaven's River, as it ties everything up nicely while leaving on a simple cliffhanger. After that is
(pushing down italics...)
Not Till We Are Lost, which just feels like it was left half-written for a few years until they decided to publish it just to appease the masses.
...I'm going to ignore this comment for multiple reasons. And before a mod decides to ban me or Liminal points at me my reason isn't something stupid like I didn't feel like it. I can take time to type it if you ask.
I thought Liminal was talking about the recent wolf furry.
Oh, I thought he was talking about the conversation UD and I were having? I dunno the people here can be confusing.
Based on a recent PM I got about someone wanting a thread they created taken down, they've already figured that out.
While that is a good point, it is kinda hard in certain situations to easily move the conversations over to PMs. And people probably forget that they exist sometimes. On top of that, it makes it so that others can't join in if they want, or even just sit back and watch the chaos.
Finally figured out a good way to finish this!
So here's the whole thing, completed, for the few out there who might care:
I do want to point out that it's quite interesting that Avo can't resist any sort of conversation that goes on within threads. (Not that I'm complaining, mind you; It breathes some life into the sometimes stale forums.) Then again, I also have my own quirks, such as tending to post in blocks and clog up the front page with my posts before disappearing for hours on end.
“All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated and well supported in logic and argument than others.”
Pushing down the italics...
This should really be fixed sometime
“Welcome to the internet! Have a look around. Anything that brain of yours can think of can be found. We’ve got mountains of content! Some better, some worse. If none of it’s of interest to you, you’d be the first!”
- Bo Burnham, Welcome to the internet.
Oh yeah, I remember seeing that quote somewhere. Kinda sad that I could kinda see the entire thing happening in the future.
“Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.”
- Douglas Adams, Last Chance to See
This quote reminded me of No Longer Human so I'll drop one of my favorite quotes from it!
“Mine has been a life of much shame. I can't even guess myself what it must be to live the life of a human being.” - Osamu Dazai, No Longer Human
“See first, think later, then test. But always see first. Otherwise you will only see what you were expecting. Most scientists forget that.”
- Douglas Adams
"The elevator to success is out of order. You'll have to use the stairs, one step at a time."
- Joe Girard

“ 'You cannot see what I see because you see what you see. You cannot know what I know because you know what you know. What I see and what I know cannot be added to what you see and what you know because they are not of the same kind. Neither can it replace what you see and what you know, because that would be to replace you yourself.' 'Hang on, can I write this down?' said Arthur, excitedly fumbling in his pocket for a pencil.”

After the civil war, when there was for the first time in US history talk of voting rights for women, many argued that women can't even take care of themselves. They need to, you know, be helped into carriages, and you got to take their coat etc. One woman spoke up who had a slightly different experience:
Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or gives me any best place! And, ain‘t I a woman? ... I have ploughed and planted and gathered into barns, and no man could head me. And, ain‘t I a woman? I could work as much and eat as much as a man—when I could get it—and bear the lash as well! And, ain’t I a woman? I have borne thirteen children, and seen them most all sold into slavery, and when I cried out with my mother’s grief none but Jesus heard me! And, ain’t I a woman?”
--- Sojourner Truth
I was going to do something else today, but this post was too good, and I keep returning to it.
So here's a quote from this very website:
"In less than two months from now, you'll look back on this year as it fades away, so what do you want to see? A writer who doesn't write in a graveyard of unfinished stories? A compulsive liar surrounded by missed deadlines and broken promises? A has-been clinging onto past moments of triumph, slowly fading from relevance? You said THIS was the year you would ACHIEVE SOMETHING! Weren’t you going to be BETTER than last year? Surely REGRESSION wasn’t in your new year’s resolution? If you don't keep to your goals, you're LYING TO YOURSELF and everyone else. Come on, is this really the story you want this year to tell? A tale of failure, not because you lost the race, but because you never even made it to the starting line? Such a shame. Laziness and apathy aren't quirky CYStian traits. They are bad habits. An EXCUSE for SLOTHFUL WAYS that keep you from achieving TRUE GREATNESS! BREAK THE PATTERN OF PROCRASTINATION. MAKE THE MOST OF THESE LAST TWO MONTHS AND FINISH THE YEAR STRONG. WORK ON SOMETHING---ANYTHING---TODAY!"
- Mystic_Warrior, The Grandmaster of the Written Word
(Link to the original thread where this post came from)
TL;DR: Stop procrastinating, you lazy ass, and start working on something --- anything --- today!
--- Ursula Le Guin
Is that just you saying it, or is it a quote? If it's a quote, from who?
“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
- Oscar Wilde
or to be taken/ reserved
“In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on.”
- Robert Frost
“Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.”
Tad late today, but oh well.
Here's the quote of the day:
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.”
- Bernard M. Baruch
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
- Mahatma Gandhi
Well, in a major twist of fate that makes me certain the world is now crazy, Trump is asking for a vote to determine if the files will get released. There is an ever-so-tiny sliver of hope that it might work.
In reality, it still needs Trump's agreement before it's released, so this is most likely all just for show.
The italics
“All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.”
- J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
"Ouch" - John F. Kennedy.
He didn't think so.
It's checked not check, and also if no one's replied to your message there's an edit button in the top left so you can add another comment onto the first instead of making a new post.
EDIT: sorry, top right not left
Yeah, I am slightly confused by the comment. Like... Am I supposed to check on my game? Did something happen to it? Is it on fire? O.O
“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
- J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
This may or may not also be directed at a certain person who may or may not seem to be continuasly coming back despite it being very clear that they should not.
It was going to be posted soon anyways, but I bumped it up the list due to recent events.
"When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he's a woman… you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside." - Also J.K. Rowling. :p
Also "emo" seems like a weirdly specific insult for this scenario. Like... If I were to try and think of some words to describe Mizal, "emo" is not one that particularly springs to mind.
Dis is not da wae
... are you saying I'm immature?...
well I understand from my peers' behavior that acting like that can happen a lot at this age but none of them are that bad at writing. (no offense Harper, work on that when you will)
Oh... thanks? I think?
I noticed that the thunderdome was called kill Avo or else which I found a bit funny and depresssing.
