Player Comments on Who wants to be a Supervillain?

I’m genuinely confused why this game is rated so high. I understand that it’s from a bygone era, and I guess I haven’t read too many of those, but even if this were the standard for stories from the early 2000s, I feel that there are enough fundamental errors that keep it from being as enjoyable as the other reviewers say.

First, you do not become a supervillain in this game. You just graduate from petty theft to grand theft auto and motiveless murder if you want. One of the key elements of a supervillain is a good backstory that explains what makes them a supervillain. This is entirely absent in this case.

This was also in the sci fi category, which itself is a crime. There are zero sci fi elements. In fact, there’s a scene where someone breaks into your house to deliver a note and tells you to answer a call in a phone booth. Like, is this the thirties. If a 2006 story is in the sci fi category, people at the least should fax me instead of breaking into my house.

Speaking of the ending, that note has some of the cringy, “we’re gonna kill you, just kidding” humor that sticks itself in this kind of story all too often. I was also confused that the swat team showed up at the phone booth, but was nowhere to be seen when I blew the redneck’s head off in the gun shop in broad daylight.

I will say that it was very well spell checked, but really, that’s about it. There must have been a lot less to do in 2006 if people thought this was exciting. Even at the time, I probably would have stuck to my Boxcar Children books.

I suppose all of this could be fixed in the sequel, but I don’t care. It’s so short there should even be a sequel.

Okay, I basically got stuck in a loop...
I robbed old ladies to get my money up as high as possible. At some point, this option disappeared. The charity option also disappeared.

The game left me with only the option of stealing a car or buying a gun. I had only $98 at this point and nothing I did made anything progress. Occasionally, after I'd left the gun store for the 15th time, an old lady would appear and I would fail to rob her properly.

I'm guessing everyone else did something different. Or I was just very unlucky. The only way I managed to end the game at all was for the gun owner to shoot me.

I finally finished it! I think there might be a few more glitches, but anyway...That is my score there, see if you can get it. By the way, the bulletproof limo is optional. If you want it though, you gotta work for it. Anyway, I hope you like this game.
