General notes:
This story’s greatest strength is the sense of scope it builds up. Though actually one of EndMaster’s shorter works, this story deals with events on a larger scale than most other storygames, following the narrator’s journey to ultimately end the world. It’s an ambitious idea to tell a story about, and EndMaster handles it very skillfully.
The pace of this story is lightning fast in the best ways. No time is wasted on irrelevant details, instead the story jumps straight to the action. In the early parts of the story, it focuses more on how isolated incidents and conflicts are dealt with. This scene-by-scene approach gets across well how time is passing, and by the time the story shifts focus to a larger more epic scale, the reader really feels like a lot of time has passed. Despite the fast pace of the story, it never feels rushed, and the narrator’s increases in power never feel sudden.
The Necromancer’s family is used quite well in this story. Though the Necromancer faces large-scale sweeping challenges like the attack on Nuro and the confrontation with the vampires, ultimately the final challanges he must face are intimate and personal. In a longer story, some scenes with his family at the beginning could serve to establish their relationship, but given the length of the game, the informational links work fine.
There’s always been something amusing to me about the necromancer’s initial state as a college rich kid slacker. He starts off being very human, with very human traits and failings and desires. This shows strongly in his initial interaction with Big Red (as well as his plan to murder him), where he’s clearly in deep over his head, and on the early stages of the necromancer path where he gets curious and excited about new abilities and prospects for expansion. The two major pathes in this game do a good job showing the possibles ways for the protagonist to develop from this initial state. The necromancy path shows him shedding his mortal desires and wishes and becoming a pure detached personification of death. However, the second path makes clear that this was not inevitable: On the hellbound path, he instead embraces the material traits of pettiness and cruelty, sacrificing his natural gift in an attempt to gain power. Despite growing in power to levels almost approaching those of the necromancer path, he never achieves the confidence and competence of a true necromancer, always grasping fearfully for more power and needing to lie and cheat to get it.
Tone is used very effectively in this story. The tone at the beginning of this story is very conversational and casual. This does a good job setting up the world as it currently exists, and makes the tone shift later in the work more impactful. On the hell path, the narrator’s tone becomes gradiose and arrogant, using sweeping language. The Necromancer path also uses expansive phrasings, but this time it comes across as genuine, as the narrator can actually back up his claims.
There’s a sense of epicness and fate to this game. On the hell path, this is true from the perspective of Big Red’s manipulation of the narrator. There’s a sense of inevitability to his eventual domination. It’s most true on the main path, however, which tracks the narrator’s journey to becoming a god of death. Serena’s intervention, as well as the narrator’s steadily rythmic journey towards power makes the path feel fated and destined. This is a particularly interesting theme, given that the nature of the choose-your-own-adventure format prevents anthing from ever truly being fated. It’s done well, however.
The focus on fate and the “purity” of the narrator’s death powers is what makes this game more than just a hack-n-slash kill-em-all adventure. Yes, you do conquer the world, but it’s about more than just conquoring the world: It’s about the Necromancer’s realization of his destiny and place in the multiverse.

Specific notes:
-The pictures with captions add a lot of atmosphere to this game. I’d be curious to know how they were created and where they’re from.
-I’m not a big fan of info links in storygames, and this story has a bunch right at the beginning. The information itself is well-organized and well-written. The need to include background information is understandable in this game, as this game jumps straight into the action and doesn’t have time to introduce worldbuilding in the traditional way, as longer games like Rogues can.
-Big Red correctly identifies that the narrator is “confused and curious” at the beginning of the story. He has the potential to be a great necromancer, but he’s not one yet.
-The protagonist’s isolation on the hellbound path verses joining the Dark Order is a good contrast between the two branches.
-In the fight with Quayle: “You see a small gray building that doesn’t seem to be suggering any effects”. I know this is probably a coincidence, but I can’t help thinking of the gray building from Tales from the Basement and SSS. Perhaps there is some relation.
-Aftermath is a good name.
-Lol, left hand demon.
-The toll that the narrator’s allegiance with hell takes on his body is a good way to show his corruption.
-The scene with the narrator’s father on the hell path does a good job of highlighting the narrator’s arrogance and blindness, while also showing his insecurity.
-The narrator’s treatment of his sister and father on each path is another way to show the difference in his personality. On the hell path he brutally tortures both of them for pretty much no reason. On the necromancer path he comes to an understanding with his father before his death, and faces his sister with respect. This shows the larger differences between the two pathes as well, on the hell path the Necromancer is petty, vindictive, and insecure, on the necromancer path he’s far from being a good guy, but his pursuit of power is out of something more pure and dispassionate, allowing him to reach an understanding with his family, even if their goals are unequivocally opposed.
-The epilogue to the hell path is quite well written.
-I also like the contrast that on the hell path the narrator is actively seeking godhood, but only on the necromancy path can he achieve it.
-Big Red is an excellent character, and used to full effect in this story. Of all the demons, he plays the role of a “true” archetypical demon the most; manipulating from the shadows and striking after being very patient. The reveal at the end that he has been manipulating events the whole time manages both to surprise the reader but also feel preordained; how else could the Necromancer’s association with hell have ended?
-It’s interesting that the ending where you side with the vampires in the hell path winds up being more positive for yourself and the world than the ending. I like that the game shows the opportunities the Necromancer has to turn away from his conquest on both paths.
-I like the way Mr. Demar and Big Red have inverse character arcs. Mr. Demar starts out as a pinacle of knowledge in the dubious side of the academic, but later turns out to be unable to handle the situations he’s created. Big Red gets offed in the first chapter, only to later be revealed to have masterminded the apocalypse in his spare time.
-I like that the Necromancer immobilizes the zombies using a nature spell, something he’s horrible at.
-Another parallel: In the hell arc, the Necromancer starts off alone and winds up surrounded by others. In the necromancy arc, he starts off with lots of allies and ends up alone.
-The jokes about all the necromancers previous failed attempts at magic are amusing.
-In general, I like the way EndMaster handles vampires in his stories. Like elves, they’re one of the fantasy creatues that it’s very easy to write in a cliche or irritating manner. However, the vampires in these stories are written in a self-aware fasion, emphasizing the inhuman aspects rather than the human ones.
-I like the inclusion of time magic. As this is a story about necromancy, it never takes center stage, but the effects we are allowed to see are intriguing and show the reader where necromancy fits in in the world of magic. It also makes a good and unusual challenge for the Necromancer to face.
-I like the reltionship between Catalina and the Necromancer better after they’re together. It’s not really clear why she changes her mind about him during the coutship stage, but once they are together, they make good partners. I'd like to learn more about why Catalina is so willing to go along with the Necromancer's plans to kill the world.
-The Ghoul King is done well. He makes an unusual and fun ally in the early parts of the game. His later betrayal makes sense given what we know of his character, and does a good job showing the changing circumstances for the Necromancer.
-It’s interesting that the Necromancer is in denial about his desire to kill everything for a long time.
-The scene where the Necromancer becomes the Great Lich Lord is well done.
-The Necromancer’s increasing exhaustion and lack of emotion throughout the necromancy path is a good way to track his gradually losing his humanity and becoming a personification of death.
-The final chapter of the necromancy arc is largely about whether or not the Necromancer is fully committed to his path of death. I like that many of the endings where he turns away are allowed to be positive, as this is realisitc.
-It seems odd that your mom says “as was predicted” regardless of what you choose.
-The final scene where the Necromancer leaves the world is quite well-written, capturing the sense of epicness and scale that the story has been building to up to this point.

Grammar
Generally good.
Mastery of Language
There are a number of sentence structuring issues, particularly in the beginning of the story. At times, these contribute to the conversational tone.
One thing that’s notable about this story is that the writing and style improves noticably as the story goes on, to the extent that it might well be deliberate. It certainly does a good job of illustrating the changes in the scope of the story, the changes to the narrator, and the changes to the world, as the seriousness of the events is mirrored by the language and phrasing used.

Branching
Not great, the story only has two major pathways. This isn’t a problem, as the story states up front it’s more “story” than “game”.

Player Options/fair choice
Fair choice is pretty good, the consequences of actions are well-foreshadowed. The player options aren’t great, as the story only has two official endings and a single choice at the beginning determines which one the player is on track for. This isn’t a problem, as the story states up front it’s fairly linear.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I played through the necromancy path when I first played a few years ago.

CONCLUSION: An well-written and entertaining game that brings an impressive sense of scope to the reader’s journey.

This storygame is one of the highest rated here, and for good reason. There are varying degrees of seriousness in the content at Chooseyourstory.com, and this one perfectly straddles the middle ground. It has enough matter-of-fact, wry humor to keep you chuckling, like the whole "most witches are rug munchers" bit at the beginning; but it also has a few moments of emotional catharsis, like (SPOILERS) the path where you can choose to not help your father when you are shot back into time before your birth. By choosing to not interfere, you undo your entire existence, preventing countless deaths, while bridging the emotional gap with your mother for one last little message from her, telling of how your actions have spared lives despite your nature as an emissary of death.(/SPOILERS)

Another praiseworthy trait of this storygame is that it has sufficient branching that leads to unique endings and exploration of very different aspects of the world. Obviously the two main branches are the demon realm and human/elves/etc, but it also further splits them up, particularly on the human side of the story, where you have several interesting endings to choose from. I don't want to get into too many spoilers, but you do have a few options to "do the right thing" when you become powerful enough to do the wrong thing. What makes these branches work, however, is that the endings that accompany those choices feel earned. They make sense in light of the world and the events preceding them, and they are rewarding in and of themselves.

Of course, the best part about this storygame is the casual disregard for life and morals that the protagonist has, and the fact that it feels more like destiny than malicious choice. You're not trying to snuff out life because you hate it exactly, but because this is who you are. If you make the right choices, you will find by the end that the choices your character made weren't really choices at all. You are the Necromancer.

Necromancer is never too heavy, but it isn't too light, either. It brings a little piece of all the emotions and type of thoughts you'd want to experience in a storygame, and mixes them together like a deliciously churned vat of ice cream. Add some good, comical dialogue and some pictures that draw you into the world a little bit, and you have the makings of what should be an 8/8 storygame.

This is the first story I read in this site when I happily stumbled upon it a couple years ago, and it was the one that got me hooked to it. And after all this time, I still find it to be the best and most touching multiple choice story I have ever read.

I took the first way back then, and didn't play the other one up until now as I was so involved in the story I didn't want it to be any different. Needless to say, the second way is as good and interesting, and it also explores more in depth some of the characters of the first one.


Now with the real review:

Characters:
I think that the most important thing in a narrative text are the characters. I find that good characters can justify a mediocre plot but that a good plot can't justify mediocre characters. The characters in Necromancer are all well crafted and have a personality, and as such they all feel like real individuals.

I can relate to the emotions felt by the main character, which helps in getting into the story and believing it, which is a big plus in this kinds of stories. In fact, I think that part of the special significance of this story to me is that I identify with it’s main character at some level. I’ve been there, and I’ve had those thoughts.

Plot:
The plot of this story is pretty simple and straightforward, it being the necromantic career of the main character, but it succeeds in what it tries to do and it's interesting and overall well thought out. As with most of Endmaster's stories, it is a "vital" plot, as it is about the life of the main character rather than just a single story in it, and as such it deals with a lot of the topics a life has (war, love, family, sex, death, etc).

The feel of politics, warfare and intrigue and the choices to make in such fields are also very interesting. The choices are complete (as they included what I would do in those situations) and they can change the outcome of the story substantially. Such things are also very logical, as what would usually work in real life is what works in the story. It is, therefore, realistic.

Another important thing is the ending, as it can screw a good story without too much problems. Both of the major endings are satisfying and well thought out, and some of the dead ends are pretty satisfying and fun too.

Consequence:
It is important for a fictional world to have definite rules that are followed all the time; otherwise, it is inconsequential and its choices become just random luck. This isn't obviously the case with Necromancer, as the rules are clear and followed throughout the story.

Writing and vocabulary:
The vocabulary in Necromancer is rich and employs accurate wording, without ever feeling distant, cold or pompous. In fact, one of the best things about Endmaster’s writing is that it combines this sort of vocabulary with a closeness with the reader and some sarcastic smirks that makes his writing truly enjoyable despite it being opposed to mine (which feels long, tedious and is like basically reading your calculator’s instruction manual in Chinese).

Technical details:
An especially gruesome typo can be a distraction from the story, and a bad layout can make it unreadable. This of course doesn’t happen with Necromancer, as the layout is fine as it is. There are some typos and repeated words, but those are minor, scarce, and don’t detract from the story at all.

Conclusions:
As I said in the beginning, I find this to be the best multiple choice story I have ever reed, although that is partially due to personal reasons. Analyzing it coldly, it may not be the best one, but it is certainly among them. I therefore give it an 8/8 (a 10 in my book), and I encourage everyone who hasn’t read it before to do so, it will be worth the time.

Also, thanks to Endmaster for writing such a masterpiece and giving it away for free. Your love for the art is truly commendable.

Amazing, relatively short but great story.

Some of the dialogue was inconsistent and didn't feel realistic at times—I'm not referring to the content of said dialogue, but rather to the speech patterns and the way the characters talk. The worldbuilding and character development is solid and deserves endless praise, but the dialogue and descriptions could use some work for sure.

One of the greatest works of fiction I have ever seen, really perfect.

A very fun read! I started it just to check out the website and before i knew it, I had completed my first run!
I really appreciated the way the author approached a usually dark subject with an often humorous detachment. And wastes little time getting you into the meat of it.
And the interactions between characters is pretty fun!
At first I was a little worried about the "wizard's school" aesthetic but it's really more of a catalyst for the story than a primary focus and honestly works out surprisngly well!
All in all, totally worth your time! You could have been checking it out while you were reading this!

The Timetravel Plot all the different Endings and Things you can possibly experience. This is the most complex and engaging Text Adventure i have ever played.

There is a lack of Influence and Agency but i realy love all the different Plotdirections that were taken! 10/10 realy made my Day.

Interesting, even though I didn’t get through much of the story. Lots of possibilities, and creator knows how to make Choose Your Own Adventure good.

Yet again i was told to play a game from EndMaster and Yet again i was intrigued and impressed by the quality of it.

As always the world building and character building in the story is supreme, and again every decision is an ordeal in and of itself. (do i choose to go ape shit on everything or think about it a little bit? Do i trust or do i not?)

I enjoyed the story immensely i think i survived it all through sheer luck this time around as i would have chosen to go into the light (as it were) sooner. ( I think i would be quite bored without someone to share it with)

Loved the story, it had incredible character development, I may or may not have gone down the wrong path in the first go, but I eventually explored it all, the best was without a doubt the Leave it all behind with Cat endingf.

It's a good story,but not a choose your own adventure story.Since every choice besides the ones that lead to the epilogue seem to break the story and it's themes both literally and figuratively.

Not usually my chosen genre to read, I found it quite enjoyable. The story was straight to the point with each choice, no unnecessary dabbling in the middle, met with a gruesome end on my bad choices! Totally worth a read and see what outcome you can get from it.

I've read most of Endmaster's major works before and it was about time I rate them. Necromancer was a particularly stunning work that made a huge impact on me when I was 11 or 12 or whenever I first found it.

It's funny because I'm not even as much into fantasy compared to a lot of people here, but maybe that's because Endmaster already wrote all the good fantasy games and the rest by all the copycats are just dull.

I am so lost in why my character died because i didn't choose to kill someone. Why would I want to start my character as murderer?

Enjoyable story. I love playing the part of the villain and EndMaster is amazing at making you, the reader, feel empowered. I read this after Eternal and while this book is very good, it's not even close to that one. There are a number of grammatical errors, but not enough to draw you out of the story. Grab a snickers and a bottle of beer and enjoy the ride.

Well it was good but I'm not much a fan of death till the very last part, yes he is Necromancer but that doesn't necessarily mean you must kill everything. as evident in the end, with no living there is nothing to do and if does that to other worlds, it will eventually become boring again.

I really liked the atmosphere of this fine piece of literature. Sometimes i wishes it would have "stayed" in context in terms of dialogues and monologues. But other then that this piece of free content is a great way to spend a cool afternoon wondering about the path of becoming a god of some sort in a fantasy world.

On my second playthrough I got the other ending ("Godhood?"). So I got to experience both sides

I don't know what I can say that has not already been said, but this story/game was absolutely amazing (I got to the epilogue on my first "playthrough", so that was pretty amazing).

It's is an absolutely amazing story but, in my opinion it is not exactly "on par" with rogues or eternal but still it is an amazing story!

Wow. This is the best one so far. A little gruesome, but the title is necromancer. I think it was an amazing game. It was challenging, and I'm surprised I only had to go back twice throughout the entire game.

Game over #4: I actually got an ending that wasn't me getting killed. Well, I did die, but came back as a vampire. It's not a lich, but it's getting closer. I'm starting to see a plan forming here to deal with the demons and vampires, the "good guys" aren't really a problem. Atleast yet.

Game Over #3: Didn't trust the succubus, got my heart ripped out of my chest.
I like this. It's a good story.

Game Over #2: Let the power get to my head, got sniped with a crossbow.
I'm making progress tho, it took longer for me to die this time! I'll see the end of this!

Game over #1: Killed by undead after the school was attacked by demons.
This might take some time, but I'm ready to go trough it, this seems like a great story!

Awesome Necromancer is the best

Ok I have played some of the story and this is by far my favorite, great mix with good amounts story and action. Best story ever!!!

As my first story on the website, this one really exceeded my expectations! Coming into it, the only real experience I've had with choose-your-own-adventure stories were physical book copies that had zero correlation with each other. So to read something that made everything intertwine one way or another, for example whether it stuck to the same theme of the story no matter what choices you made, was refreshing and exciting!

From the beginning, I appreciated the fact that the not-as-relevant background information was its own set of choices as opposed to it acting filler within the actual story. Not only did it not feel invasive but the fact it was set aside as its own choice made me want to continue reading through. Something I would absolutely pick up if and when I decide to write my own publication!
<p>
The story itself was very creative and took avenues I necessarily didn't expect would happen. My favourite example would have to be using time as a form of dark magic. In a world of necromancy, you would normally think of things more centered around things like the undead and the evil stereotype. This story not only encompasses time as a dark magic, but it also includes other kinds of attributes such as the inclusion of Devils (not my people, obviously…. o.0), wizardry in its basic form, and warfare which makes the story come together nicely.
<p>
The ending was not only a great signoff to the story, but it also opens itself into a much bigger storyline if the author ever decides to do so. I won’t spoil the ending because that would defeat the entire purpose of this review. However, despite the good ending provided, it was a bit unexpected for me for reasons I will explain in my critiques.
<p>
The critiques to this story are few and far between. As for the characters, I felt like the protagonist’s high school sweetheart could have been included more and could have been a good avenue to explore a possibility regarding the protagonist having to choose between his first and second lover. However, I did appreciate the fact that the absence of the high school sweetheart in much of the story wasn’t a huge anchor because it encompassed and gave reason for their presence in the ending. This was my biggest critique, but by no means was it a critical comment on the story as a whole. Everything else would be merely a nit-picky kind of criticism which isn’t needed.

Overall, I loved the story! I would absolutely recommend reading through all of the pathways given and explore all of the endings. It is well written, planned, and an awesome way to kill about 1-2 if you have nothing else to do! Well done EndMaster!!

I saw the epilogue, all in all this wasn't a bad story. Not too short, not too long the you's were a bit confusing and there were a couple of grammar mistakes, still a solid story, I recommend reading.

It's an interesting story, certainly didn't expect it to go to the places it went. I've always found death to be a strange yet accepted concept, so reading this was both sad and enjoyable. Good read.

I actually love this so much. The trial and error of it all is frustrating as hell, but it serves to truly keep you stuck inside it as you try to get THE ending until 3 AM. Writing is shoddy in some places and just glances over years of activity, but the sheer inspiration and storyline behind it all makes up for it.

Played through to the "true" ending, and after the epilogue, I wanted more yet. The little political game of conquering the world was fun and highly variable. I made 3 mistakes along the way, some of which seemed unpredictable. The story arc lasted over an hour and that's without doing much reading of all the dead branches [pun intended] on the side. This is definitely a recommendable and fun adventure.

Honestly this is one of the best games on the site the only thing i would add is a sort of dark hero path with the alliance against the demon lord to close the portal

I've seen this game recommended so I finally got around to playing it a couple times. One thing I liked about it is that it had a lighthearted touch - not the usual grim horror, even though blood and death and tentacles abound. It was more of a dark comedy.

It did seem like a lot of paths just sort of got cut off, with both choices leading to death, which sort of pushed everything into a more story-like path. But there were unexpected twists, and the nonchalance of the main character as he got more and more powerful in the face of death was amusing.

Though I did find one puzzling thing in the mc, as sometimes he would burn someone rather than raise them out of respect or because they were important to him, for good or ill. Yet another time he burns someone because they 'aren't worthy' of being an undead.

This was fucking awesome, I did get the true ending I believe because I settled down with Catiline, probably the best decision I have ever made.

It has taken me a long time to read this story because the thought of having no chance to complete things in a good manner is hard for me. I have tried a few different paths already but arrived at an epilogue finally. I enjoyed this story though.

This was a decent read. There were some errors in the writing here and there but only a few.
I feel like there was too much glazing over events with single sentence summaries, but that was the author's choice.
There is little change via the choices except for ending the story, but the few towards the end had enough difference to feel worth reading.

Recently i have beed dping these vyoa stories and this is the only one i have rated the reason being how i felt after going tru whole story. Even the real ending which i hoped it would turn out different left me really bothered and drenched out of emotions. The cost of concuring whole world imo was being alone and knowing that fact i dont know single person who would indulge in such thing, and then when i put my self in his shoes i felt completely broken. It really hit me hard in the end because for me this wasnt really happy ending imo it was very sad that person would give away everything just to be the most powerfull being in his world

This is gonna be less of a critique and more so my scattered praises about this game. I cover everything included in the story to the best of my ability, so don’t read this if you haven’t read the damn story. To be honest, I’m skimming this tonight because I love to consume my Endmaster stories in one sitting. It doesn’t matter to me, because I’ve read and enjoyed this many times on different occasions. I’m mostly focusing on reference points.

I've played this many times and it wasn't until now that I realized that this game is only 70,000 words long. It feels so much larger. That's because of how mighty the story made me feel. Watching the Necromancer's knack for necromancy turn into expertise so quickly was pretty cool, and the ensuing megalomania and paranoia were great. It felt like a real life power trip! That’s cool. I’m a fan of magic and witchcraft in fantasy in general because of the potential for creative exercises of power, and this story is completely centered around this. I constantly feel like a mythical hero while reading this.

Yes, I typed ‘hero’ on purpose. One of the greatest touches in this tale is that in some of the circumstances, the Necromancer had the moral high ground. That’s definitely not normal for necromancers! Like when he slays the has-been fucking blood leeches. Those wretched creatures are posing as powerful beacons of might, but in reality they’re just human ticks with delusions of grandeur. A real conqueror of the mortal coil was all that it took to show them who’s the master of the puppets. The conquering of Aftermath was epic on both paths. I love the way that the demon-lich Necromancer channels spectral spirits, even though the ‘pure’ path is my favorite. Sure, a bunch of civilians died during the Nuro Incident, but we can just raise those corpses and blame their fate on those damn demonologists! While demon lich monster slaves were cool, I found the undead giants that the pure Necromancer gets to be cooler, and he gets all those spirits later on anyway.

Speaking of the Drozz Tribes, I love the Ghoul King. He’s a nice addition to the story and his character is instrumental to the turning point of the story. When I’m not paying attention to the invasion choice, I still tend to pick the Drozz Tribes over the Brot Kingdom because of how well that invasion choice sells GIANT ZOMBIES. That said, the Dead Dominion’s formation was a little quick for five years… but that didn’t harm the pacing in the scheme of things.

Back to the demons. Velzix and crew were an interesting and intriguing bunch. I like that the demon path has more characters that play a part, however now that I’m reflecting on this aspect, I do wish that these characters would have a more impactful part on the plot on both paths. The story works without many other personalities because of the egotistical nature of the main character, and I see the value in that, but I still find the story to be a bit lonely, even though that’s the point of destroying the world.

On top of all of this, I love the moment where the Necromancer can stop his own conception. That and the moment when the Necromancer can allow his sister to kill him were tragic. When given the option to make the Necromancer’s sister into a Hellspawn creature, this multiplies the sadness of it, even though the cruelty is so captivating.

The end of the game itself is fantastic. I mean, becoming the God of Death is phenomenal.

To sum it all up, I find this story to be top tier, and there are only two flaws I saw. The first was that there were a few moments when I thought the pacing was too fast, and the second was that the pure necromancer path could have used more characters. It started off strong on that front but it degraded after the capture of Aftermath.

8/8 game, Endmaster. This is one of your older stories and I can’t wait to see what you make next!

It's like when you find "the perfect show". you read it and once you're done, it takes a while to really sink in. You're done. I loved it. Just as much as Eternal. I wasn't as speechless as I was with eternal, but I still sat there for a good ten minutes staring at the final words. "At last, death has died". I had a sense of completion and at the same time emptiness as the story I had been reading and walking the path of ended. I love your stories and hope that you continue making them. Thank you for making these epic tales for us to walk the paths of. I sincerely hope you continue and have fun doing it.

Plot: The plot is brilliant. There are absolutely no plot holes, the branching has zero flaws or repetition, and it is well paced.

Grammar: The grammar isn't perfect, but in a story this size it would be strange if it was.

Well I’m doing it at last. Necromancer was the first game I ever read by EndMaster, and is still my favorite game on this site, though I haven’t read Eternal or Rouges yet. I have put off writing this review on account of the fact that I knew in advance that it would be a very long one, and I didn’t know if I could stop myself from gushing out a 2k word review rambling about how amazing this story is. Well here we are at last, and I’m going to keep this as brief as I can.

Okay so let me start off by saying this game is a flawless gem written on parchment crafted from the fire of the underworld, and with a pen made from Hades skull, and even this would not be doing this game justice. If you have not read this game yet then FUCKING DO THAT RIGHT NOW! Out of the big three endmaster stories, Eternal, Necromancer, and Rouges, this is the shortest one. It’s only about 80k words overall, keep in mind that the other two are around 500k to 600k. 80k words is about the length of a warrior cat book. So make a choice, read this free masterpiece that will bring joy to your sad pathetic life, or pay for a literal pile of shit. Hard choice, I know, but I trust you will make the right one.

Now let me be a little more specific here. I have went on and on about how this story is one of the best things ever written, but I’m right now the main question going through your mind is why I think so highly of this story. Well I have many reasons for this, and I’ll do my best to explain them without spoiling anything.

One thing that I adore about this story is the concept. The whole idea of raising the dead, taking over land, and murdering everything in the entire world is just great to me. If I was talking about a normal story I would rant and rave about how I was let down that they teases these things and failed to provide them, but because this is fucking necromancer, it gives me all of this and more. This story expands everything it teases and does it in such a wonderful way that only endmaster could pull off.

Also it’s not all about the plot. The execution is also very important, luckily for me I’m reading necromancer, so that is covered in spades. I have stated this many times and I will state it again, EndMaster’s writing is fucking magic. May I repeat, it is fucking magic. The perfect amount of detail, word choices, and depth. Writing is something that one can not simply explain, for there are three sides to writing. There is the technical stuff, grammar, spelling, etc. There is the story stuff, character depth. Plot, ect. Then there is the magic. This is the stuff that is just so hard to explain. I don’t know what this is called, but EndMaster has mastered it.

In the end I could rant about this story forever. There is just so many things to love about it. Though I’m going to have to end this here. This story is perfect.

What an excellent, interesting story! With each paragraph I was drawn further into the story. The images truly contributed well to the tale and every choice was highly important and weighty. No matter what end I got (and I played through this at least ten times), I was satisfied with the magnificent writing and progression of the story. The addition of background information on the world was a well-appreciated addition, and the way the author slowly revealed the reader's family connections and relationships was intriguing and well-crafted. All in all, quite a wonderful story.

Very interesting game, nice twists in the end depending on your actions and branching. I understand that the plot is it’s own and not the typical heroism against death and Necromancers but I found it nihilistic and boring at the end like if I also had no care for any character in the end just like the Main character which reduced my interest in the story because it just becomes about destiny rather than character driven relationships.

This game is a god damn MASTERPIECE from the literature to the gameplay to just the world in and of itself definitely worth the time to play.

MY REVIEW: WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS

Pretty difficult, but that's ok seeing as i like a bit of a challenge myself. My original ending was getting murdered by the demon dude in the beginning, because i over-thought it, and thought i might impress the Professor dude. It's well written, not repetitive ,and has some pretty damn beautiful death scenes such as the one where my "Body was charred black before i even hit the ground" really poetic. First couple pages and i'm like holy shit this motherfucker is demented, but then slowly but surely i realized its beauty in art. It is truly the feeling that you get when you see a dark contrast painting. You begin to feel for the characters, to feel as the characters. Like when the girl kisses you and brushes it of you get those flutters, like it's real, its so immersive and realistic, how you deeply feel for a lost love and still watch for others, even though deep down you don't want those others, because you need that person you have lost, plus the longful feeling when you've lost someone and all you want is to have them back through all means necessary, willing to sacrifice everything for one thing. Even though any coping skills, or any suggestions given to you by those peasants that mean well, but can't understand, pushing you to the edge forcing you to communicate with people who you don't know, and you can just write your problems away, use the writing to encase the nightmares, the thoughts, the desires, and the sins. Because then, in truth it is just a story. Then when you are at peace with it, and it lets you know, that ultimately its not about you. its never about you, and it never will be about you.

You get an 8 out of 8, for outstanding writing, which in all that is good and holy, pushes you out of your comfort zone, puts where you are you, and you don't want to be there, but you cant escape. then the story ends.

The end was not what I expected. I thought I was reaching the Epilogue, but alas. However, I think this is one of the many things End's works are famous for. They make you think you're on the right path, but then, boom you're really not. Never underestimate the power of EndMaster.

I'll be reading it again in the quest of an Epilogue, of course, but thought to share the thoughts so far any way. As previously stated elsewhere before, I'm shook. This was different and nothing like anything I've ever read before. I've had faced multiple failures in the game, but this one was the most... mind-boggling. Because, hey, I really thought I was doing good. I cry. But holy shiznuggets, wow. Every character was so well planned, and I had a hard time trying to understand them or predict what could they possibly do next; or rather what would End do next. I mean, never in a million years would I have thought BIG RED WAS COMING BACK! Like, that was my most favourite choice of going to him instead of the other evil Professor (who later killed me anyway after approaching him when Big Red 'died'), but noooo! I'm thinking maybe going to him should be the ideal choice after all. Hmm.. next game play would tell this. I think my most favourite person whose death I cherished was Velzix. He deserved that. Smart of the sister to do that. I loved the fact he was so delusional about the whole rebellion thing planned. Idiotic and funny, but awesome of him to post Hellbreeds in the demonic army. That was wonderful, I loved it. However, I was definitely not expecting her tormented soul to finally be released either. End is merciful and kind like that. Speaking of the sister, the transformation process was painful. Mainly because of the dad witnessing it all. I don't know, the whole dad part had me conflicted. I understand why was it done what was done and that his behaviour towards me was totally wrong and unacceptable, but I think I felt the real pinch when he cried during sister's transformation. Again, the story does an incredibly good job and covering a wide array of emotions and plots. I felt anger, intrigue (esp the eager "what next, what next," confusion, sadness, and the feeling of victory (which was ultimately shattered, but anyway. You get my point.))I was especially amazed by the plot development.

(A tip for new readers: what you think is true is probably not true in 99% of the cases. You're in for a wonderful, hooking adventure.)

Always loved the theme of necromancy, the romantisim of vampires, and much of the Dark Arts in Fantasy genres. Any this was no different.

I will say this, the characters beginnings we unique. But the possible ends were rather stereotypically evil. Or at peast the evil endings were, I’m disappointed though there wasn’t a route, not of deplomacy but of one that brings order not simply death.

Wow... If I had to describe this in two words it would be simply amazing.

This is a great story from the villains perspective. Walk through the shoes of a talent-less nobody that finally finds out what he's good at at the cost of lives. Intrigue, conquest, high adventure, romance, this story has it all.

Now THIS is why I come to this site. Sure, it's not the most professional of works (I've noticed my fair share of grammatical errors, and the writing is a bit forced at times), but when you take into account that this isn't written by a professional (and probably by a single person in their downtime over a period of a few months, *maybe* years), yet nonetheless has so many different paths with multiple paragraphs on each page, it's truly something to behold.
As stated before, the writing isn't perfect, but when it clicks, it's extremely well-done. You (or at least I) can really get into the headspace of the characters.

Ultimately, though, the reason I love it so much is because I'm an absolute edgelord, and upon getting the true ending, I really wished I was in the main character's shoes.

The true ending is great, and even some of the false endings are fantastic if you're into what they offer.

Yeah, I know this is a repost but I wanted my review to be linked to my account and forgot to log in the first time.

Great story, and great characters, would be great to see a second part where he goes to another world.

This was a little different from some of EndMaster's other fantasy masterpieces in that there was clearly one true ending. However, it makes sense due to their only being one truly successful outcome for a necromancer such as the main character, and each path is still very entertaining.
I liked both of the two main branches, but I preferred the Dark Order path because having my guy become an unstoppable lich dude was just that awesome. That is my own preference more than anything though. Both are quality writing.
One thing I enjoyed in both paths was how the main character reacted to things, especially in the beginning. His, "Did you see how cool that was! This is awesome!" behavior was indicative of him just being some college kid who happened to be insanely powerful, and it somewhat mirrored my own reaction as a reader.

Fk this was amazing. The amount of effort must of been tremendous! Such a fan (to be honest this is my first time reading a chooseyourstory text). Though it may be boring for you, i'd love to see what happens in the other worlds (perhaps encountering a second god of death or something!?). Meh who am i kidding... I'm commenting in 2018 and this story was written in 2007 i believe. Anyway on the millionth chance you see this, love the story and i hope to enjoy more :D

There was some unnecessary terminology in the very beginning that ruined this story for me. Everyone rated it high so I was very excited to read this but the carpet muncher bit was horribly disappointing. I hope your writing only gets better.:)

My only real criticism is that your characters don’t seem to be doing anything.
As an example, because I know that’s a little vague:
“How could you possibly know that?”
Vs.
He arched an eyebrow, “how could you possibly know that?” His lips curled upwards as he spoke.
See what I mean, you get so much more context from the second one. And I know that you started to do it a little near the end. But, it made it hard to get into because from my perspective everyone seemed to be standing around like dolls and saying things with a monotone. Without a hint of emotion.
I just think you can do better and I hope you take this advice to heart.

This is an AMAZING story. Rather than condemn necromancers as scenery-munching evil, you're a nuanced, bullied kid who wants revenge, betrayed by your fellow students and even the Order's pet Demon! Then you become a Planeswalking God.
That is the BEST revenge!

It was a good read but the following are somwtgings i think would have made it better:

1. Only one ending has an epilogue and is supposedly treated as the true ending. Though i agree dead ends and bad ends should be in stpries such as these, i think there were several that can be considered good ends that deserve their own proper eiplogues like the ending where you let yourself be killed by your sibling or you left with catalina.

2. The last one would be to give a choice with at least naming your character and determining the gender. As ive read all the routes, it seems that the story really isnt gender locked. You can be a female necromancer and nothing in the story changes. And this may be pointed out as something to support not implementing thisb i would also point out that in some sense the cutomization will help the reader identify and be more invested in the character and story. After all, reading you, you, you over and over and over again could be really grating and tiring.

Me again, I have to admit that the real epilogue was even more fantastic that the time-warp ending. Becaming the God of Death, wow. It was a good choose your own adventure, it was very good indeed. Kudos to the author for witing it.

I loved the time-warped end, with which we discover we were the Great Lich Lord all along.

I found this story truly enlightening, yet at the same time saddening. your family die one by one, the links to a mortal life ending, severed by your own hand or the hand of theirs. Death brings life, yet life brings death. Perhaps in the future we can see one so full of life his powers are unmatched. But that could be a story for another day. Beautifully written, 10/10 to the author.

Yet, Necromancer feels like a full dimension of explanation is missing. The story resides within a world of magic, demons, and magical creatures of varying types. All of these things are left with little explanation of what they are and how this world works. How the spells are cast, or how the magical material is learned
If Necromancer were to provide some deeper meaning to whats going on magically, it would augment some aspects of necromancy and the time magic.
Otherwise this is an incredible story.

Anyway's my thought's on this is funny if you have dark f up mind, and when you see Big Red. He well makes you Angry, Laughs with joy, Shameful, and sadness.

Even tho, he has little to do with the story and just there for moving you through the plot of the story, I was wanting to hate him. But, I just can't, He was too damn enjoyable to be with and when I picked too killed him. He just a demon and they are all backstabbers.

But I was wrong, and he was actually a very good domain dude with a jackass shell around him. And I was like "Fuck... The only character who I was planning to kill, Is actually a great guy and asshole (In a funny way) Is dead, and now I very much stuck with characters who I hate the most..."

I was constantly on the edge of my seat as I ended up putting myself into the shoes of the Necromancer. I reached an ending I wasn't looking for but that makes it even more enjoyable as I now want to go back to the start and try for a better ending! 10/10!

This story.....is one of the best I have ever seen, there are so many different ways to go about it and I can honestly say that I have been entranced by this tale. I will not spoil anything but this story will leave you shocked and begging for more. I would most certainly recommend you giving this a try.

This was by far the best story I have ever traveled through. I managed to make it to the point where I met a more than satisfactory ending. I would most definitely recommend this to anyone interested in war, but also battle strategy and betrayal. 100% satisfied and would recommend to anyone who can handle a bit of cursing and sexual topics.

Ah, this is another one good read from this author. But epilogue kinda make it seems like this is just complex prologue of some Marty Sue adventures around of multiverse.

I originally read this back in 2013 and gave it an 8. I've just gone through it again (getting the epilogue ending and a few others) and still stand by my assessment. It's a beautifully crafted story with a good mix of humor, romance, horror, and suspense. With a wider view of your writing this time, I am both in awe of your skill and puzzled by a certain contrast that makes you an enigma to me.

Good story line, most branches made a lot of sense as to what was the 'right' choice to continue the story, but a couple seemed a little to arbitrary, but that would be the only significant knock against it.

I loved this story every step of the way (even though I got sent to hell at the end). This was the first book on this site I have ever read, and let me tell you it was a awesome introduction and if your wondering if I will try to get a better ending the answer is no way (being a evil monster is just too much fun)!

Read the whole thing in one sitting. I feel unhealthy for sitting for so long, but it was worth it. I'll admit, the writing was cheesy a lot of the time. But past that, it was pretty damn good.

I enjoyed the content and the choices that were present. Some choices led immediately to a death or game ending which was a bit shallow, however the result was understandable.

It'd be interesting, and it would be as weird as it was if you chose to let your father die and (I think) realize that you were the first great lich lord. The first time I wandered down the path of evil (as if any aren't) and as I reached the end I thought "This has to end poorly". Well.
Next as I wandered down the better path I enjoyed some of the dead ends. I liked dying to preserve all life or reclusing myself to live in joy. But when I got to the true end the jaunt through death hadn't become the anti-climax I feared. I hadn't imagined it would be so fulfilling.
TLDR: I liked reading this, and wish there was more like it.

As always, I begin by saying I am not an author and have no idea of the work and creativity that goes into creating these stories. I respect and admire all who put forth the effort. I found this story to be equal parts entertaining and disturbing. Amazingly well-written, I was always curious what was coming next. However the characters seemed a bit...off. Maybe that was intentional, but it did hurt the immersion for me.

Was very neat to read, however the choices needed more explanation before i picked them, Also the Diologe between people was very wooden or downright off compared to the situation.

Clearly a huge amount of time has been invested into this, which is how it should be. This story is a brilliant example of how to write a CYOA story. Even with no more than two choices for any given fork (as far as I've seen and I've played it a few times now!), there is wide variation, realistic consequences for the choices you make, and believable characters. The beginning is written in a skillful depiction of how a lot of teenagers feel in the World, and soon matures and progresses with time as you make choices. The characters almost without exception have life of their own.
There are very few spelling mistakes or missed words, though I did find some of the pacing of the dialogue and description a bit fast. Then again, it might just be because I personally abuse commas.
All in all, an inspirational story that's surely influenced many on this site, and for good reason.

I didn't get very far before meeting an unfortunate end (let's just say I got a little too ambitious too fast). However, from the amount of reading I managed, it was well-written and engaging in true Endmaster style (I've enjoyed his other stories as well). I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys dark fantasy and aspires to be a Lich Lord. Who wouldn't?

Not unlike the youngest brother of the Deathly Hallows, I have embraced death as an old friend after living a long life in peace and solitude with my queen. What I am most surprised about was the typo, or rather its lack thereof. Typos might actually ruin a good read when too many exist, and thankfully, this story has very little.

Wow! Played through this one twice and it was totally worth it. While its a little less polished than some of Endmasters later work, Necromancer is remarkably tightly written. I played through to both the final endings but felt that many of the other possible endings were much more poignant. Dark, poignant and funny Necromancer is certainly worth the time it takes to play.

Waaaahhh, amazing story, my favorite so far, ended as the god of death, ready to take over the other realms(and combat other gods?) is a sequel in the works or is there a chance of a sequel(s)? That would be the greatest thing ever!

The first time I played through it, I pretty much completed Chapter Two and then just got an epilogue. I say 'played through' because I didn't think there would be any way to progress the story further, but then I tried again and finished all the way to Chapter Five. The writing style is excellent - descriptive without being needlessly flowery, with a twinge of sarcasm - and the characters are all so wonderful, becoming deeper the more I interact with them.

Also, for some reason, I imagined the Main Character (I forgot his name, sorry) as the character from Owlturd Comics. I think it's because he was willing to side with Cthulhu for a free mug.

Thoroughly enjoyed, was hoping to continue reading about this, but I ran out of Epilogue.

Awesomely made. [Spoilers] My first run ended too early because of that bloody traitor GK and its ring, but then I couldn't help to explore all the storylines options. I really love your vision of the purity of Necromancy an Death, the unavoidable damnation of Hell and the mind-shattering, reality-wraping essence of time magic.
I like the inter-storylines references and also the fact that the initial choice is conditionning which storyline you'll follow (as... what kind of necromancer would choose a friendly demon over a creepy proffessor for its introduction to the dark arts ?).

The twist at the end of Hell's storyline is excellent, but nothing compared to the other one.

The True Necromancer's storyline depicts very well the steps of power increase. And the time loop attempt on you that put you back in the Time Nexus kinda imply that every choice that you could have made from then the first time has somewhat happened. And this theory is canon (!) When you consider the end you get by choosing life over death when your mother asks (by you having be the Great Lich King the first... time).

I recently remembered reading this story years ago and decided to find it and read it again. I was surprised at how well it held up to my memory. This story is a masterpiece with stellar character development and meaningful choices set in a fantasy world that is easy to grasp yet has it's intricacies and quirks. Amazing really pulls you in and makes you want to take different paths

Necromancer was really great and interesting, died my first time but figured it out after. Love the way they word stuff in general and with just the right amount of profanity. Had me on it for hours finding out diffrent endings once i got the one i wanted. Descriptive and to the point while fun enough for only getting 2 choices at a time however they branch off and even sub branch. I'd say the only thing that should be changed is how many choices you have as what i would of done sometimes differed and have to endure the timeskips nmw still enjoyed reading and imagining definitely going to check out others from chooseyourstory.com

This "choose your own story" story was one of the greatest video games i have ever played (even better than witcher 3 wild hunt) this should be made into a open world RPG or a book series. It was that good.

Despite the limited number of choices and frequent errors in grammar, I've appreciated the chance to be evil.

It's seriously great! This story is unique in the sense that it shows us insight into the dark side, and seriously, there aren't many, if at all, stories showing that being on the dark side can be beneficial as well. The ending also shows us that gaining your true role in life sometimes entails sacrifice, which is a plus because it reflects the reality of life and not just the atypical 'fairytale' ending.

I personally feel that this is your best work, not because of the pictures, but because of how this is basically the start of every other story that you've written and how many different endings there are, the only problems were the occasional grammar mistake but they are far and few between and only noticeable if read more than once, or by grammar hounds.

I really enjoyed this story. The plot was excellent, I found myself going down paths that I knew weren't going to get me to the end just to experience everything. I'm certainly going to look at the rest of this author's work.

The story was really enticing along with seeing the different ways to end everything. Only problems were dabling with time magic and all of the plot holes it leaves in the story and how effortlessly the character delt with everything. Besides those I found it a wonderful read.

This is only my first play through, and I am most definitely going to try my hand at it again and see what other endings I can find. The story never dragged and was interesting, to say the least. My only real complaint was that it went far too fast for me; I never really got to know any of the characters. Other than that, however, it was well done and worth the time!

This is the best storygame I have ever played. Following a tyrant from beginning to gruesome end is always a joy, and this story did nothing to diminish that. The characters were memorable, the plot was interesting, and both the true ending and its alternate were interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed the brief glimpse of this universe.

this game was so fun! a great experience! the story is engaging, happy ,sad and soul shattering! all of your choices affect your experience i have played this about 11 times and still come back to it!

For someone hunting down anything remotely interesting on necromancy, this is a godsend. I loved this even more than I did The Necromancer's Apprentice, which has just become my SECOND favourite necromancy novel. The only downsides are the lack of details on the gramarye, but a very well-done effort overall and a very engaging read!

Very good story. Well developed plot. Didn't expect some of the outcomes from the choices, which was pleasantly surprising.

Things to work on would be dialogue, first and foremost. Everyone had the same manner of speech, whether old, young, or dead, human or demon. It was often matter of fact and revealed things in a way that seemed unnatural. The grammar was also imperfect, with many run-on sentences. These two things kept me from getting really into the story. Regardless, it was very enjoyable to read. Keep it up!

The sadness of this story is that you had to stop. At the epilogue I may have had a tear in my eye. The deaths of some of the characters that you had gotten used to was heartbreaking, and it was quite ingenious to incorporate the idea that you are the reason for your parents meeting. Great game 10/10...now i'm off to spend time with my family.

I was impressed by the amount of description and thought that was put into this, especially the end section; I can honestly say that it is incredibly difficult to make me cry, and you accomplished it.

Points i think would improve the story:

I think shorter paragraphs and more options would be nicer, but that would make it more of a game... in its current state its more of an elongated story. Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind.

I understand the need to explain a bit of the background, but i didn't really like the way you did it... i would much rather have had a longer storyline that explained everything, perhaps starting during his childhood? Either way, good work!

Also, there is one thing i like about a story and that's an explanation. Where did all of his power come from? I can accept natural talent, but a more in-depth or plot driven reason would have been nicer. As well as that, i would have liked more details about the battles and tactics used, plus a more in-depth description on how he created undead, as well as a variety of undead (although, you did pretty well in this one)

All in all, a fantastic storygame, and the first one i have played from this site! Loved every minute of it, and i hope you put in the time and effort to create more; I'll certainly play through them!

This was an amazing multi-choice game, You really need to make a multi-verse sequel to this, Maybe one where you introduce more indepth use of different magics, And a more interactive combat/magic system and perhaps a more diverse choice of romantic interests, Maybe make it into a sort of epic with more endings, But i think it was a great game regardless and i think you should definitely keep up the good work.

This game was simply... Majestic. The story ensnares the mind and the bloody magic behind it all is epic.

I won't spoil the ultimate ending but it is quite mind-expanding in my opinion.

Okay, so at first I wasn't really expecting this story to be much. But, as I delve deeper into the plots and characters, I was shoked at the pure awesomeness that I had encountered.

It actually took me mose of the night (5PM - 11 PM) to find the Win. I remember going through the whole entire story like the 31st time, upset becuase I couldn't find it. Then a light bulb lit up in my conscience, and I realized the one place where it would be. When I got there, I scrolled all the way down and say "Epilogue"

My hands were shaking and I was actually sweating as I read the last transcript and then moved into the epilogue. I have never really played such an addictive game. This, this story, is beautiful. I rate it 9/8 on the rating scale. It is without a doubt the best story (imo) on this site.

I highly suggest you play it, because trust me, IT IS WORTH THE TIME!!!

Incredible story - both paths were well-written and full of decisions that felt like they had the gravitas of changing the fate of the world. The tender moments were heartfelt and the epic moments were incredibly badass. All in all an excellently written story that I'm going to go replay whenever I'm bored.

I got the early ending with trying to join the dark order, but my character was one of the worst liars ever, and I did not even get the option to tell the truth. >:( This emoticon represents my frustration at this turn of events.

'Necromancer'...the story considered one of the best on this site. Is it really one of the best, or is it overly hyped?

I won't even bother going into grammar because the grammar is fine. If there are any errors, I didn't see any. The dialogue is ok. There weren't many parts that absolutely stood out for me in this story.

The real bread and butter for this storygame is of course...the story.

'Necromancer' follows the story of a nameless protagonist who isn't gifted in any of the schools of magic. Although he comes from a notable background, he just doesn't seem to live up to it. That's when he soon finds out that he has a special affinity to one particular school of magic...necromancy.

The idea of the story itself is very interesting. The lore and feeling to the world itself is portrayed very well in this story. You will very quickly find yourself immersed in the storyline. Each page in this story has a couple of choices per page but don't let that deter you. Every choice will greatly effect the direction this story goes in. Something that even I was surprised by.

As you progress through the story, you will even to begin to feel yourself become a god of death. Your powers being unmatched by even the most capable magic users. However, while leading an undead horde of soldiers is nice, it left a bit to be desired.

The main character is powerful, we get that. It is also hinted that he is capable of leading his undead army onto battle and pull out a decisive victory during his conquests. I was hoping that I could command my soldiers myself during these battles that I only hear happened. This would not only emphasize how powerful and intelligent the main character is, but it could also extend the story a bit with some action.

Nevertheless, the endings for this story are simply amazing. You will not be disappointed with how this story ends, and you will of course want to replay it to see all of the endings. I've gone through this three times myself, and I don't even think I've seen all the endings yet.

My final verdict for 'Necromancer' is a 7/8. It's even better than Reese's Cups®.

Wow such an Epic storygame. Though a bit linear it still is awesome. Personally I prefer the "false happy endings" rather than the true endings.

This was good, depressing at times yes, but entertaining. Spelling and grammar errors here and there; along with a few cliches but that's to be expected in the process of writing a large story. It was a bit linear though.

...Finally got the epilogue, and also the hell one, but that's a spoiler that only the people who've gotten that one will understand, don't worry. Anyways, spent forever trying to get past the first chapter... I think it was the first chapter, anyways, I came so close to giving up this story, and I am so glad I didn't, wonderful plot, universally different endings(literally), one of the best I've ever read/played.

Liked the God of Death ending you get. I like the idea that you lived as a mortal, died, rose as an undead, gained more power equal to that of a god. Then top that off with a multiverse theory ending, and it makes for a plausible Sci fi god that I enjoyed the idea of.

Not many know this about me, but I. LOVE. NECROMANCY.
And going through this shit for hours and hours was nothing but pure bliss. Fuck being the good guy. Fuck being the hero. I want to storm cities with the fucking undead. And that is exactly what I got to do.

A little goofy to start but a truly good game. Becoming a God was interesting as were many of the alternatives. The whole thing kind of gets you thinking about the nature of life and death also what would one do with their immortality. Personally after tearing the entire world down I would probably rebuild the entire thing. Then leave my memoirs and an empty world behind as I wandered the planes.

Carpet munching witches, treacherous demons, a dalliance on the dark side of the force. This interactive adventure has everything you could wish for. The style of writing is more Piers Anthony or Roger Zelazny than it is JRR Tolkien. It's fantastic! Let the author of this be proud of what they have done, if I learn that they write books, I will buy them and suggest that my friends do so, as well.

I spent six hours trying to get the true ending and I can confidently say that it was worth it. Even after getting the true ending, I had to go back and see all the other ways it could've ended. EndMaster is a master of the English language and of writing, developing, fleshing out, and making me truly care about his characters. I was completely immersed in the story. Thank you for this wonderful experience.

First thing's first - Necromancer was great. I had a lot of fun playing/reading through it and I enjoyed the story immensely. I haven't experienced a lot of other "choose your own adventure" types of books, so maybe that's standard, but I did feel like I was being pushed towards THE right ending throughout the story. More branches and more actually viable endings would be sweet. Other than that, Necromancer is top notch!

The character's backstory is horrible (gratuitous rape and murder treated like a joke) and the opening paragraph was very disconcerting considering that I am a lesbian. Maybe get some good ideas instead of going for shock value.

This was outstanding on so many levels, made it pretty far, at the end I lived in peace, very nice ending I got. It was very heart-warming.

the problem I have with this story is that the dialogue between characters is extremely casual, and it just doesn't work when demon lords and death incarnates are conversing using slang and cussing like its nothing. the other problem i have is that there is no suspense or build up to major events, a character is granted with immense power, but is the reader is only given one line describing it or leading up to it, it just makes the power the character is meant to have seem insignificant. on a lighter note, it was certainly an interesting read.

If I only can have 1 word to describe this: it's "HOLYS***". Author, I gave my respect to you. This is a classic masterpiece. You are able to completely immerse us into your world. This story is not just the classic good-vs-evil. But this story gives very deep-moral choices that we could even reflect in our life. The ending just BLOWS my mind. Almost like Shadow of the Colossus or Inception ending, just more badass. These sort of endings are the best, it's a sad ending but at the same time it's not.. more like being mindf*cked. I admit some moments seemed a bit rushed, and choices in between big decisions would have been nice (we conquer, but we never get to rule much, or really shape our empire, or even relationships with other characters).

Supreme work - My only advice is to spend a little more time with the conventions such as spelling errors, and maybe work on spicing up your language. I thought this was an incredibly well thought out story and an even more immersive world. The added lore and history kept me mesmerized for hours. For all reasons, this story should be rated as high as the ratings go, but the only reason I kept my rating at a seven was because I feel like the story would be much more satisfying if it were proofread and all grammatical errors eradicated. A story is meant to transport you to another universe, in a manner of speaking, and unfortunately when something as mundane as a spelling or grammar error comes along, one tends to be forcibly pulled back into our own boring plane of existence. For all other aspects, this tale was absolutely marvelous.

You really should write a sequel. But on another world, in another universe and dimension; not in the point of view of Death. Instead, perhaps the rallying, nearly unstoppable force of life as it evolves, changes and grows. Or perhaps the omnipotent eye of Time. The Realm works in mysterious ways, you could likely view it from any standpoint, even Source.

This is the type of story I LOVE to read. It has many endings to choose from that you could read this over and over again and not get bored!!

Good game - less of a statistic system than, say, Life of a Wizard but a good game. A few minor typos.

You are an aspiring student with one forbidden desire to master: necromancy. Will you rise or fall? The game also pits you against demons and an army of Good guys. The text was somewhat absurd at times, such as capitalizing an entire (or several) words, and I did not spelling mistakes, but ultimately, it will not detract from the story.

I liked the ending. Maybe EndMaster will create a sequel where we continue this grand adventure?

This story is both intriguing and very immersive, bringing together a deep and complex story about a man who ultimately becomes death itself. His development as a character is nothing if remarkable for even when he wishes there to be peace there cannot because all living organisms essentially fight death.

I gave this the highest rating, but only because I have gone through nearly every possible permutation of the storyline. I died many, many times, and one time through my character experienced a fate worse than death. I believe the only one I didn't find was the so-called "happy" ending, with the epilogue. It was very enjoyable to see the results of all my different choices, and the last ending I experienced felt like a happy ending, even though it wasn't the "win," It still felt like an excellent end to the story.

Great story, but unfortunately I died too soon by my own creation ;-)

I loved the ending i got. i loved the images and saw the story unfold and become purely epic. to all the young necromancers out there remember one thing. Even in death you must rely on love and family and trust no one else.

i dont know... it just didnt do it for me, i followed several different branches of this story and its paths are very linear... there seems to be only 2 set endings you can acheive that arent death, and on of them is a little anticlimax. meh. it wasnt bad though.

To start, I want to thank the author. This was a wonderful activity, and you truly are something of a great story teller.

I enjoyed this story so much that I have already sent it out to all of my DnD friends. Though none have finished yet.

I suggest this to anyone who is not turned off by some less than political language; however, I assure you that the language only stands to better the story, give you a better insight to the main character, and make the characters more real.

I also love all the times when...well, I suppose spoilers are never really that fun. Please give this story a try, or a dozen. I'm certain you will be pleased.

Interesting. Very ambitious, but the writing style occasionally grates on me; a bit rough around the edges, and could use more descriptions other than the occasional walls of dialogue. I also generally dislike being 'molded' into a specific persona for a storygame.

To be fair, I've only gotten to one ending (and died!) so I may revise my opinion and my comment after I play some more.

This has got to be the BEST Choose Your Own Path games I have ever played. After about three days of on and off playing, I finally got to the epilogue. I have to say that I look foward to a sequel, even though there propably won't be one. I absolutely love this one.

This is a good game.I can think of no improvements that won't massively change the game itself.

The story was pretty good, however the dialogue was a bit confusing. You didn't do enough separation, making it hard to tell who is saying what. Also, the dialogue felt really out of place. It was almost as if you weren't taking your own story seriously, which I felt was disappointing.

Brilliant, I've read your story about the bard first and it was definitely a delightful pleasure to go back and read about the litch who haunted his story.

I will admit at first I didn't think much of this story. It seemed bland to me at first and almost stereotypical with how it started off. I'm glad I kept playing and trying again, for by the time I reached the end I was just so bundled with excitement that I really didn't have any words. I say this because I stumbled across this page while I was researching Necromancers to further a plot of mine. This gave me plenty of ideas, and the way some of these endings wrap up is just so brilliant I think the author deserves a golden star.

Fun game only one so far i've felt the need to go back and find better endings. Really fun and interesting concept.

wow! i'm really enjoying it for i aim to complete it. but in order to do that i have to work out what's the good way of doing things and the bad way. even if it means starting over from time to time i couldn't care for i like these types of games.

I really enjoyed this story. since I moved to nigeria and left everyone behind, I really mis roleplay etc. This can very well be some kind of substitute in a way.

The story... so damn good. Lots of paths to take, to explore and its well written out, excellent. The characters aside from the main guy are fleshed-out and lifelike. Say, what about stories containing 'Combat Command-esque' stories? Wherein you lead fleets, armies, or simply a company or a squad and the things you do affect their survival and victory/defeat. Please do.

Just finished my first playthrough and it did not end well for me. I look forwardvtp playing through it again. Great story and lots of direction to take it in. I just wish the author would change some of the main characters dialogue to reflect his growth.

This was my first story game on this site. I played this before I had an account and I played it over and over because I died and then I finally got to an endgame that was perfect for what is really do, but I said what would happen if I did the other options? I went through the game again and again finding different routes to go and found a few different endings and the true ending. I must say I have gotten addicted to this site and it all started with Necromancer.

I really enjoyed this story, but I disagreed with the character several times and so wasn't really attached to the character, as this is obviously more 'story' than 'game'. Nevertheless, I understood why he did what he did, I just plainly disagreed with some of his actions. Great story though, and if this was a book I would gladly buy it. Not so sure about a movie though...would've been a bit gory I guess xD

good story my first CYOA one but i liked it

there are somethings i don't like but cyoa stories seem like an absolute pain to write so
they main problem i have is that it's maybe a bit to linear it didn't feel so much a cyoa (because obv this being my first one i know what a cyoa feels like -_-)
but more a choose something and if you didn't choose the right one tough luck

i would have liked it if instead of it being oh you chose to do this dead end that it continued in a diffirent way and eventually end up back on the main path perhaps

You've invoked my curiousity. I realize that there won't be a follow-up to this one, seeing it's impossible. I hope that he finally can meet Kat and Sarena. I love this story. I did not expect this story to be as long as it was as I failed a lot in the first two chapters and assumed that I was almost at the end. In the beginning I seemed to only have the choice of doing evil things, and I know that I am role playing as this character that the author has created but I genuinely didn't want to make the evil decisions. In chapter 3 I started to enjoy the book a lot more, I didn't fail at all after this point. I enjoyed the strategic thinking of conquering this world. (Super mega spoilers of death past this point) My favorite part of the book, at least on the path that I chose, was when the Ghoul King (Or GK, which I thought was funny by the way) asks you to wear that ring to help you overcome the vampire kings gaze. I was torn because I liked GK and didn't want to think that he had betrayed me, but I ultimately decided that he had due to the whole teleportation mishap. I praise this author for offering choices that you really have to think about instead of generic one's that can really go any way without any way of knowing why before hand. Overall I enjoyed this story and believe me, I LOVE Reeses cups so this is saying a lot.

I REALLY enjoyed this as my first story! I also liked that I did NOT get the true ending, and still felt fully fulfilled by it. It completely enraptured me and transported me to a fantastical place. The dark overtones were delightful, and I LOVED that my character was evil. Certainly a job well done by the author!

Wow. To follow the hero's journey to world domination, absolute power or total devastation has been very interesting, if not absolutely consuming. I am awed by the extent of work, dedication and wit that is clearly present throughout Necromancer. This outstanding piece of work will surely bring hours of entertainment to whoever reads it.
I tip my hat for you, the author, for this is quite possibly the best CYOA I have ever read.

This read was a breath of fresh air. I've been bored all thanks giving break. looking up stupid little mini-games to waste time on. I eventually (and oddly)found this, a magical story of a born to be guy. A necromancer. I absolutely loved it! It was so enveloping and action with so much imagery and the ending (atleast the one I got(vampire)) was so complete.
I could imagine every scene and gruesome death. I just loved it, and incourage you to write more.

It's been awhile since I've read this in full. I have to say, your ability to really craft a plot is probably second to none. There were a few irksome parts (spoilers ahead), I didn't like how preternaturally powerful my mother was. I think it's rather unlikely that some random elf girl promised to some random elf prince would turn out to be a super-being. Sometimes I felt like the plot was artificially moved forward in an all-too convenient fashion, but for the most part, basically every twist and turn felt reasonable. Your characters were amazing and the storyboard was very inspirationally crafted. Also, I loved the way you handled the psychology of the villain, I'm not sure that I've ever seen it handled so well and I feel like you did a lot of research into it. I imagine that the bizarre way that the protagonist thinks is somewhat akin to how a dictator drunk on power but unwilling to relinquish his moral self image must operate. There were numerous typos and such but fuck that shit, honestly, there was no chance that typos to the extent that they were found could possibly distract from a story this good. Thanks for writing it.

I already commented on this story, but I wanted to go into greater detail on how good it is. When I first started reading it I was afking on my favorite mmorpg. I was drawn into the story so deeply that I logged off of the game because it required too much attention and all of my attention was going towards the story. I intend to read more of EndMaster's stories.

It took me a while to get to the true ending, but I am glad I took the time. A little advice, stay FAR away from the demons, unless your killing them of course.
