Hello, I have been looking for some good Love & Dating storygames on this website, and I found this. I looked through the description, and thought that it would be most related to me. This reason will be announced later. So, without further ado, here are my thoughts:

Plot: 4/8
The plot was coherent and represented many twists and turns along the way. I found some of the endings to be quite cliche, but I may be wrong because I've only played into two endings. Sophia in the story dies in a hospital at some point, but there was also one where they got married? There was no time gap between the hospital call and the marriage scene. The pacing makes me very confused; I can't tell which pages are real and which pages are dreams! Pacing was very slow and I got bored. Even though this is a featured storygame, there are still things to improve!

Characters: 7/8
Despite the slow pacing of the plot, the author really put in some character development into the story. The good writing really showed a real connection between the protagonist and Sophia. Even though they are the only characters to talk about, This section of the story is almost perfect. The protagonists' dreams and the dialogue really showed both parties' desire to be together forever. Great job on showing the connection between the characters!

Grammar: 6/8
The grammar is probably how the Characters section got such a high rating. The appeal of the reader to the senses of smell and touch really makes you imagine all the scenes in the storygame. However, the smell of 'mint cinnamon' is repetitive around the storygame. Would use different imagery for higher engagement. There are a few minor grammatical errors, but nothing too alarming about them.

Gameplay: 8/8
Again, I wonder how many endings this storygame can possibly have. There are so many options to choose from throughout the storygame, and i feel like I am heading towards a certain ending on every click. Even though I only experienced two endings, the possibilities are endless! Also, the art on each page makes you really imagine the scene. Really helps with the imagery used throughout the storygame. The art alone just shows how much effort the author put into this storygame.

Overall, I am relieved to finally leave a good comment. I've commented on a few bad storygames in the past, but this is my first good review. The connection between the Protagonist and Sophia is great, the imagery used is great, especially with the art, and the possibilities are endless! Would be better if the pacing of the plot wasn't so slow, but is overall good.

Oh man. This was so much nicer to read after that last storygame I just read. (Don't bother looking, it's trash) I really like the way the story was written in flashes of memory, and yet still incorporates everything a good and complete storygame requires.

The writing was very elegant and had a nice flow to it. It rose and fell, each time dragging me in even more until I had to play every path, click every link, and read every word until I had read it all. I did exactly that. It was so effortlessly sad, because it was written in such a way that no other story could meet this natural level of set mood.

It was the perfect length for the writing and the mood so that it lasted and only got stronger near the end. The characters were developed nicely, and were introduced quite impressively. There is an evident plot, even though it was written in such a broken way, and it still felt smooth and effortless. This is still one of my favorite storygames on the site and I hope you can return and create more works of art.

There was no obvious grammar and spelling mistakes, and this wouldn't have take away from the overall rating at all. It was a good use of pictures, but not everyone enjoys the animation style, but still, very good job. 8/8

Many of these types of Choose Your Own Adventures are linear in the sense that the choices throughout the story create specific endings; however, this story is wonderfully different. The choices, to me, felt like the narrator was simply thinking of his many memories with Sophia (which is probably the intention). Each section's choices were not tied into the next section.

I loved the tone of this story as well. It seemed like the happy memories of something tainted by sorrow which is something everybody does. The narrator never became depressed, but I always could feel his melancholiness on the matter (due to the story's end). I also liked the way that you portrayed the two. Their relationship seemed to be simultaneously as friends, as brother/sister (not genetically), and romantic. It is much better than "he likes her 'cuase she's pretty".

The plot was wonderful. I was able to experience these two growing up together which made the endings (I am trying to stay spoiler free) all the more sad. I normally have an ending that I like the most, but this is the only story in which I am unable to do so. They were simply to great to choose from, and each had their own benefits and drawbacks.

Finally, I did notice that people say that the story is blatantly sad... I do not really see it that way. The endings are about to happen, and our narrator has to choose which one he wants. I feel that he was merely sad about his situation which bled into his narration of his and Sophie's past. Furthermore, I LOVED the pictures. I felt they added to the story and looked spectacular, though not everybody likes the style you selected...
This is definitely one of my favorite stories of this genre.

This was definitely the best story on here that I've read. It took me a second to actually realize what it was about, but there were so many times in this story when I felt like crying. This story really makes you think about cherishing the small moments with your loved ones and keeping them close to your heart always. Very highly recommend it!

Very sad, I liked it a bit. The sad sappy love stories will never to be for me.

Your writing is lyrical while still sounding natural. Each sentence showed it was crafted with care.

I got misty eyed after the first reading. But the second and subsequent readings fascinated me with your technical skill in rearranging this as a mosaic to capture the subtle differences in how things might have unfolded- i was reminded of a Bach fugue where you enjoy the melody and couterpoint while smiling with approval at the composer's skill in surprising you with yet another variation.

I rather liked the use of "cinnamon and mint" reference to bring us back to the reality that, despite thd subtle differenes in outome, these are still the same people.

A very enjoyable read.

It was a tad confusing at the start, the story isn't chronological for what I could get, just tiny fragments of a life gathering into the present. It's sweet, it's sad... But in the end it is love, it's beautiful. For what it is, is a fountain of emotions.

I remember going through this story years ago, and praying that I'd never have to go through that with someone I cared deeply for. Sadly, it did happen and this story serves as a great guide for me to go through and of the great memories we'd shared at least one more time. I still can't believe she's gone, my little Evergreen...

It doesn't make any sense! What's supposed to be a dream and what's not and how do they just teleport from scene to scene? There is no order whatsoever!

It's something that you don't want to rush. It makes you really want to keep going and find things out and the draws are spectacular. 10 out of 10!

Ok first of just WOW. The depth of the characters you got into such a short story is nothing but incredible. Second off I love the ending. Most authors always do happy endings but they just don't feel real. Thank you for righting this story. It's going to be one of the stories I'll remember till the day I die.

My last review was short and dumb so let me re-review.

The story was really touching and very very absorbing as I experienced both sad and happy emotions. I generally find "life story" parts of novels and games kind of boring, but this just sucked me in. I truly truly enjoyed reading this.

The artwork was amazing did a fantastic job of depicting the colorful scenes which, though short, were concise and descriptive by themselves. I understand that not all stories have happy endings, but even though this story had a rather sad, it made me smile through my tears, because it had a beautiful conclusion. The ending that touches your heart and ends a long ride with a bit of an abrupt, yet satisfactory stop.

This was such a wonderful and well put-together game. It's not a story I would have normally chosen to play but it had such a high rating, and I was intrigued by it. I think, first of all, when you start with a (mostly) linear game, you're sort of limiting yourself so you have to have to make up for it with really strong writing, charismatic characters, and have that special 'something' that draws your readers in. I think you managed this on all fronts. I think even the parts that could be considered as clichè aren't, really, because I think if clichès are re-told in a satisfactory manner, they aren't clichès. They're just an enjoyable way to read things you might have read in a similar fashion before.

I also think adding in pictures was really smart, from two aspects: (1) drawing is brought up often, so it's important for both the storyline and our main character, because we're seeing the world through his eyes, and (2) the pictures themselves are sort of very light and carefree and joyous, which helps really bring home the sad twist at the end. I also think the alternate ending we can choose at the end was a really, really interesting choice. In that we can suddenly find a way to step away from the story and go 'No thanks, this isn't the story I want to be told', and we're told that it's okay if we want to do that, and we can get something different...but at a price. It's a sweetly brutal way of getting what we want.

I can't actually think of something you could have done to this story to make it better. I'm not saying it's perfect, because nothing is, but it's perfect enough to not make me even notice its flaws, which I think makes it perfect enough!

Absolutely amazing. Keep up the good work. Don't ever stop being yourself. I loved the art. And I finally found the ending where I got to have both Sophia and Sara.

You punish me for loving her, you punish me for not, you make me wonder, you make me hope that somewhere, somehow in between the countless combinations of choices there is a way. A way to save her, a way to be happy, a way to let myself fall for her. Well there isn't, oh why cruel author, why do you do this to me. Why do you show me every single thing inside of Pandoras box, why do you make me overcome each and every single thing just to reach the bottom and find out that there is no hope?

A very sweet story that is so sad at the end. I played through a few times, to see all the different memories the POV character has. The pictures are beautiful, with lots of detail. But like I said; very sad. Sophia is very sick, and you had to choose at the end who will stay. Pretty much choosing favorites.

In the end I chose to pay the price to save Sophia.

It is even more sad if you play it again, even if you choose different paths, because you know of the choice you have to make at the end.

This made me cry, everytime I read it.

It was really sad. I couldn't help but feel the story, not read it. In a way I think this story can be relatable how in life, you mistreat this special thing and when it's gone, you die inside.

But then it is normally sad when the love of someones life dies. Keep up the good work and I would love to check out any other stories you create.

It was aright, nothing about the story seemed linear or connected. I get that its a chose your own whatever but it didn't really seem like all one story too me. It was cute, cliche, and felt a bit satisfactory. You know what you're going into and it delivers.

I found it hard to follow, it almost seemed like the scenes were written to fit the illustrations and sort of stitched together to create a story... there was nothing that really captured my attention or made me feel anything.

This IS a really sad interactive story and the artwork IS nice and I DO recommend it. However, it felt like it was pushing the sadness in your face - it wasn't natural enough. And I felt it was so shallow, droning on about how beautiful Sophia was...

Despite these flaws, though, I found myself enjoying the story and actually feeling (for the first time in my life) a bit saddened.

This story would look better as a short story than an interactive novel.
Don't get me wrong. The writing is really good and so are the illustrations, it makes you want to check all the option to enjoy it thoroughly.

Less of a story or game and more of a collection of barely-connected scenes. There are no real "choices," you're just selecting the which snippet to read next, most of the time with no context to clue you in to what you're deciding. The writing is also a bit weak, with several confusing changes of tense (often from one sentence to the next). That being said, the inclusion of art was a neat touch. Overall, I'd say skip this one.

It was a very beautiful story. The only criticism I would add is that it felt too short and there wasn't enough of an emotional investment into the character. It was easy to see from nearly the beginning of the story where the end would fall, so the constant foreshadowing made it hard to feel too upset by the end. The images were beautiful and added a lot to it, making it more enjoyable to go through. Another nice element is that the length of each page was good being pretty short and easy to digest. Though, I really do wish there was more length and emotional heaviness to the overall piece. It would take it from being a pretty good piece, to an amazing one.

I remember playing this game when i was a kid. Back when my small brain couldn't comprehend things like this, beautiful stories of romance. Now i'm just a teenager but playing this again, I can appreciate and understand it a lot better. Each ending is touching in its own way. Thanks for making such a quality story

It was a beautiful premise but I wish there was more of it. It's hard to immerse yourself in something so short. And it felt sort of incomplete and disconnected. And almost contrived.

It's amazing to see the Sophia-type girl in many of the love and dating storygames around here. Playful, bit mischievous, with that angelic innocence. I don't know why it's that frequent. Maybe because that IS the girl of many boys' dreams?

Going back to the story, you produced some very great work here. There was this general feeling of well-concealed sadness, even in the happy parts. But just like Snow, it's not forced. You use happy dialogue in a way which makes the damn thing sad as Harambe's death.

Only thing which kept this from being my most favorite love storygame, though, are the pictures. I do agree they give the whole thing some ambience and enhance the experience, just like others who have commented, I did not like the pictures, mainly because they are not my type of picture usage. I prefer the naturalistic take of Snow.

But in the end, it's a good game, worth your time and worth your cents.

I was playing this in math class today and I started crying. It was so amazing!!!

That was so amazing and was so terribly sad...

First, amazing illustrations. I love the anime/manga artstyle and how your choices would change Sophia's hair.

It was such a breathtaking journey, going from page to page following the characters' life from their childhood moments to maturity. The bittersweet feeling you get after that foreseeable twist was pretty awful.

Yet I still liked it very much.

The pictures are great and add a lot of emotion but it's jarring how you constantly mix past and present tense, even sometimes in the same sentence. Also, I found the story hard to understand in parts since you go for that "is it a dream or isn't it?" approach at times. Overall, pretty good, and definitely one of the best CYAs on this site

After the ending I don't know whether to punch the author, hug them, or stand up and applaud. The love of my life happens to be diagnosed with cancer and has been my best friend for years. I could feel so connected to this story and although it pained me and I cried profusely....I loved every minute of this. It was fitting too that she loved the water because well so does the one I love. 10/10 would cry manly tears again

In the beginning you could somehow explain that the MC is watching a movie this way its not confusing, but other than that its a touching story.

It's also probably the story for you if you like sweet little moments, little every day occurances that are still very well written and feel real.

The story itself is a little disorganized and hard to follow, and it ends up coming off more as little snapshot memories than a coherent storyline. This can be good or bad depending on your tastes. The story itself, however, is excellent when you've actually gotten a handle on what exactly it's about. I'd say it's definitely worth reading, and even re-reading to read each little tidbit.
It's well worth the time.

Hot damn... I haven't felt this emotionally distressed since my first viewing of Clannad Afterstory. Very emotional piece, and beautifully written. I love the drawings, but I did notice they don't have a constant style to them. While I loved them all regardless, it did bug me a little. Solid piece, no matter what choices you pick.

It was short in terms of choices, how far it could have gone on a romantic situation, but the feels are very impacting with how it joins you together with Sophia and how it connects you with her and having all that connection completely severed in the end is a really big impact on emotionally invested readers.

I actually never read this before, despite all the popularity it's had on the forums. I guess I'm glad I finally read it, and I'm probably going to put here the longest comment I've ever written. A featured story deserves long comments, after all.

I don't exactly know who I'm addressing with the shitty critique I'm about to write, since I don't think Applegirl has ever been on in my time, and even a while before that. Everyone has already read this, and everyone has already said what they had to say, I guess, since the most recent comment I've seen is from 2013.

I'll begin Danaos-style, by stating that your grammar is spectacular. Since I'm not a big Danaos follower, however, I don't know what order he does things in after that.

The story began cryptically, and I could tell it was going to have a sour ending without paying attention to the title or any of the other comments. After that, besides the trippiness and unfamiliarity that came from obviously being in a dream, it felt entirely natural, like genuinely shared memories.

The story itself was spectacular, piecing together a long, beautiful history that you can never change, yet seem desperate to change, and suddenly discovering why your character was grieving. Now, you may have been able to get the protagonist in the game to realize that it's all okay, but you don't fully realize it all until the bittersweet ending.

I'm a largely horrible person, I'm a heartless person. I hardly ever cry watching any media, when I came close to shedding tears during the funeral scene in 12 Years a Slave, I can't help but feel that it was because I felt obligated, as a white person, to feel horrible. I've played 'empathy games' tackling heavy, painful issues, and even though I've found plenty of sympathy, even though I've found myself in some of the same situations, I'm still met with a nearly sociopathic lack of any empathy.

This story is one of the few games I've ever played, one of the few things I've ever seen period, that actually made me look down at my chest and say, "Oof... Did anyone else feel that?"

While I'm sure our poor protagonist can get over it soon, maybe after the end of this story, and maybe before, depending on what choices you make, my grieving process has just begun. Thank you, (And curse you!) applegirl, for writing this story.

I pride myself on being a manly man, i workout, i drink, i fight, and yet i cry over this sappy stuff,this is easily one of my favorite Adventures, im not gonna spoil anything suffice to say if you havent yet definetly play this, the author did a great job and the artwork is fantastic.

I dunno what it is about this story, it's kinda... bittersweet. I dunno if it made any difference that I was listening to 'Too much love will kill you' by Queen while reading this. The story was a tad bit cliche, but that's not always a bad thing. It still got ya in the feels, made you feel sad at the right moments, and happy in the others. Really cute!

A very well written and unique read. The way the story flowed in a non-chronological way was very clever. There's also plenty of different pages and endings to give this game a lot of replay value.
When the protagonist didn't ask Sophia what she meant when she hinted at dying, it made for a great plot but a not believable character. I feel like any real person in his situation would have pestered Sophia about what she meant.

Wow this story was amazing; not just in the act that it is touching in plot, but because it uses so many unorthodox devices to deliver its impactful message. The subtle touches such as little things the reader may notice in other character keep them compelled. While the story has a huge end that shows what the work was about and, offers a chance to not only win/ lose; but do so on the players own terms. Although like its said, that comes with a price and that little bit of sadness no matter what you do makes the message linger. Truly this is a masterwork and Well deserving of the 8/8 rating I'm giving it.

This touched my heart, really. but i have one question, did you make all the pictures or what?

This story was fantastic...one of the few stories on the site the sight that makes me depressed after finishing it (that's a good thing)!

Wahh. It's good, but the ending!

This story was friggin' great. It was so deep and meaningful in the beginning, and in the end, it was just so sad... I actually felt like a tiny part of me was the guy in the story. Felt like he was... Well... I don't mean to take away the sincerity from this... But, I felt like he was *Dishonored* by who-ever the hell made the two of them. So emotional.

I liked the story, but I felt like many of the pictures were inappropriate.

I liked it I loved the way the words flowed and I adored the pictures I loved the whole thing!

I love this story! There was just enough confusion and mystery to keep you reading and interested but not enough to frustrate you. The story was so sweet, and I loved their relationship. I also love that you illustrated every picture. Nicely done!

Cruel and yet so very,very, beautiful. While i can understand that tragic romance is the best romance, this story will always make my heart-throbed. Not only because of the beautiful story, but also its bittersweetness.

Quite literally, the most touching and heartfelt thing I've read in a while. Maybe I'm just a sucker for tragedy and romance, but I absolutely loved this.

Oh. My. God. I almost cried. This is so beautiful...I got so caught up in the story...Their love was so believable, so true. This is a masterpiece, something to be treasured forever. The plot, the pictures, the EVERYTHING, it was all perfect. So believable, it was tissue worthy. An entire box of tissues. This would make a great movie.

This story really tugged on the heartstrings, the way the words flowed was great. All of the endings of the story were sad to some degree but they were all satisfying to the story.
HOWEVER, I noticed that the artwork for this game belongs to Meago at dA, you should really give give credit to her for the art.

This story brought me to tears and made me cry over and over again. I couldn't stop re-reading this story, no matter how many times it broke my heart. This story gave me enlightenment about what i should do in a really bad part of my life. I still cry and sob and be sad and hate and yet love whoever wrote this. I hate her for the sadness. But i lover her for her meaning and enlightenment. This story has changed my life. I think about this story every single day.

This is a very melancholic Game, this game details it so real that you feel alive on it.Because it different as there's no truly happy ending in this game, It's also representing our life, where we met our BFF or our Love, it goes on and on, until you can't met them again. Its totally agame where you'll still crying after playing it 10 Times.

It is a touching love story. However in a real life, I would be putting myself down instead of my girlfriend. I like that in the story, the girl still loves him when he is putting her down and she always supports him.

Maybe because it's late and I'm emotionally vulnerable right now but this tugged at my heart strings. I was torn on what I wanted to sacrifice and even though I feel I made the right choice it still hurt.

This made me cry. Please write more. I wish I could find someone I loved.

Let me make something clear here. This is the best interactive story I have ever read. This doesn't simply entertain me, move me and make me cry. This story gives me faith that interactive stories can be every bit as brilliant, moving and deep as traditional fiction.

I'm not sure what happened to the author, or why she hasn't written anymore stories, but I sincerely hope she keeps writing, wherever she is. She is a master of story-telling, and she has given the literary world a beautiful and haunting gift.

Great story and no offence but how can you not make good ending for this. It is just cruel :(

I really enjoyed this lovely game. Never have I played a Choose Your Own Adventure game where I connected with the characters so much. No matter what ending you choose, it's always going to be a tragic one. But the amount of empathy I feel for these characters is truly...stunning. And the artwork helps a ton.

Man, that was one hell of a ride. I can only hope to create an emotional roller coaster like this. After a while i got quite a few different endings and i really love you and i hate you and a few things could be learned from you.

Great game this game makes even though its so sad it makes me cry every time so many times I play it so many times and it still does. I love this game.

If you have the time to read this, why don't you pull yourself a seat and play this story? The entire relationship of the couple in the story is boiled down to a couple minutes, but these minutes last a lifetime. I highly recommend this to anyone, despite the fact you play from the male's perspective. Well written Author, you deserve much praise for this. Beautiful art as well.

This is the last comment I'll leave on this story. I had to give myself time to cool down, read other comments, and think a little more objectively, so that I could give an intelligent rebuttal.

As for the artwork... I honestly don't like anime/manga style, but I still recognize that talent and effort put into these illustrations. The art matches each scene well and makes the characters and story feel more real. I wish more interactives used illustrations like these.

While this story may have a few clichés, nothing about it feels forced, nothing manipulative. While many parts of the story are sad, many parts are happy. It's not a sob story, but a perfect blend of elements, moments happy and sad. Like life.

The sad ending doesn't come from some cheap plot twist or deus ex machina. It was set up, legitimate, and believable. Rather than sentimentally throwing cheap melodrama at the reader, the action and characters gradually draw the reader into the story, coax the reader into lowering their defenses and set them up for the endings flawlessly.

I also like that when it comes to sex, this story knows how much to show and how much to imply. To have an overt sex scene would have tarnished the story, made it feel like mere wanking material, not something beautiful. The little teases and steamy yet subtle illustrations give the story all the sexual tension a romance requires.

It is, in short a masterpiece. I have only two regrets. The first that the author does not seem to have produced any more of these gems. The second is that this story may have spoiled lesser interactive romances for me, forever. I have yet to find one that could come anywhere close to this.

A different ending today. A happier one, I think...

To put it lightly, this story is everything a romantic interactive story could ever hope to be. The characters feel real, the choices are diverse, and the emotion is sincere and startling. To say it touched my heart would be cliché and clumsy, a compliment far unworthy of anything this beautiful.

But it did. It touched my heart. Bravo.

I think the story is so sad and beautiful, I'm not a big fan of anime but the pictures are a nice touch. There were some grammatical errors in the story, and I was a bit confused as to who Emily was, but other than that it was a beautifully written story and I hope there will be future works like this.

Just to add on what a couple of people (JJJ and jkulibert from memory) said below, the story was noticeably written to make the reader sad (or at least it felt that way). The story had so many love story cliches - the difference between my experience of the story and theirs is that they worked on me.

With that said, I still think you did an amazing job of making those cliches work. I've tried it and it's not as easy as it looks. (I don't like looking at your story in this "it's just a pile of cliches" sort of way, because it genuinely made me feel, but it would be unfair to leave this side of the review out.)

It's not the kind of story I usually read, I'll admit, but it did keep me reading which was all I wanted when I went looking for a storygame half an hour ago. The path I took wasn't completely sad. In fact, most of the pages were wistfully happy even if it did drip with the knowing of the end since the beginning. I usually don't like things written for the purpose of making someone sad, but I can't say that I didn't like this story either.

It's well written, definitely. I didn't really love the pictures, I'm not really a fan of the style that they're in, but that's just my own griping, if I liked that style of picture, I think they would be perfect for the story. My major issue with this though is that it constantly feels like a pathetic appeal. That is to say, it feels as if you're consciously TRYING to "pluck my heart strings". The trick to writing a "sad" story is to make it sad, naturally. This felt sad predictably and sad for the sake of being sad. Since I felt that way, I didn't actually FEEL anything from your story. For an example of a similar story that's done more naturally, check out Snow by Sethaniel.
